Before President Biden announced he would discontinue his re-election campaign and endorsed Vice President Harris, recent polls that had been conducted after his disastrous debate performance showed little difference between how he matched up against former President Trump compared to how Harris would. The New York Times assessed that Harris falls about two percentage points behind Trump in recent polls. The 46% to 48% difference is slightly better for Harris compared to how Biden polled on average – three percentage points behind the Republican presidential nominee, 47% to 44%. A New York Times/Siena College poll conducted in the battleground state of Pennsylvania from July 9-11, before Biden dropped out and before the assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, showed Harris was only behind by one percentage point in a hypothetical matchup against Trump. In Virginia, Harris had a five percentage point lead, compared to Biden only polling ahead of Trump in the same state by a razor-thin margin, according to the Times. Harris polled slightly better than Biden in both states among Black voters, younger voters and women. HARRIS OUTPERFORMS BIDEN IN 2024 SHOWDOWN WITH TRUMP: POLLAccording to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll conducted July 5-9, 70% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents indicated that they would be “satisfied” if Biden withdrew from the race and Harris was nominated to run as the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate.In an open-ended question, that poll showed 29% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents named Harris as their pick for the Democratic nomination if Biden bowed out. NEW POLL REVEALS WHAT DEMOCRATS THINK OF HARRIS AS PRESIDENTSeven percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents referenced California Gov. Gavin Newsom, while 4% said they wanted former first lady Michelle Obama as Biden’s replacement. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer each had 3% of support, though half of Democrats did not specify an alternative candidate. As pressure mounted from Democrat lawmakers and donors for Biden to step aside, a poll from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research released last week found that about six in 10 Democrats believe that Harris would do a good job as president herself. In the end, the pressure on President Biden to step aside, orchestrated by increasingly blatant leaks from Democratic leaders and public abandonment by party lawmakers, got to be too great, as was obviously inevitable.Not even an incumbent president of some accomplishment can run for reelection when donors pull the plug, when nearly two-thirds of Democrats don’t want him seeking a second term, and when a public declaration that Joe Must Go is a surefire ticket to television appearances.  Soon after Biden, recovering from COVID, rocked the 2024 race yesterday by endorsing Kamala Harris, which may well have handed her the nomination, the tectonic plates shifted. Not long after Biden declared it “in the best interest of my party and my country for me to stand down,” Harris said she was “honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”Politics is a cold business. Journalists and commentators quickly moved on to speculating who Harris’ running mate will be.WEST VIRGINIA SENATOR TELLS FOX NEWS HE MAY RE-REGISTER AS A DEM AND ENTER WHITE HOUSE RACEWhat I will never understand is why Biden sent so many signals that he was absolutely, positively staying in the race. He said he looked forward to hitting the campaign trail this week. He had campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon make a rare TV appearance to say the boss wasn’t dropping out, and had a White House spokesperson rip news stories that suggested otherwise. Harris brings undeniable strengths and weaknesses, but at 59, she is now the youngest candidate in the race to take on Donald Trump.And the latest stunning turn – a president bowing out after all the primary votes have been cast – came a week after Trump was nearly assassinated, the bullet grazing his ear as he turned his head just enough that it saved his life.As Trump said at a weekend rally, “I took a bullet for democracy.”On yesterday’s “Media Buzz,” which ended before Biden’s announcement, Kevin Corke, in Rehoboth Beach, said the Democrats would be “done for an awful long time. The idea that a Black woman would be passed over, the way it would be perceived in the community, would be devastating.”The person most responsible for Biden stepping aside is Nancy Pelosi, who warned the president in private, then had allies such as Adam Schiff go public, then used leaks to the press to make Biden’s position untenable.The former speaker has not endorsed Harris. Neither has Barack Obama, who let it be known he thought his former VP would lose and said yesterday there should be a process for deciding the nomination.RFK JR MAKES BOLD DECLARATION AFTER BIDEN’S PRESIDENTIAL BID COMES TO AN ENDThis may be because they believe Harris would gain more momentum by defeating someone in a mini-primary, rather than looking like a choice imposed by the party bosses. That certainly can look undemocratic, though most Biden delegates would probably follow the president’s lead. The biggest mistake many journalists make is basing their assessment of Harris’ chances on her poll standing today.Trump very much wanted to run against Biden, especially since that disastrous debate. But it was also Trump, while cursing Kamala from a golf cart, who predicted he’d be running against her.The vice president had a rocky first two years, often at odds with the West Wing, but in the last year has gained in poise and confidence.Here are her assets and liabilities:Harris can claim a share of credit for Biden’s legislative accomplishments (though that was always too backward-looking). But that means she’s also saddled with his failures, such as Afghanistan and the border fiasco (of which she was nominally in charge in a no-win situation). Biden waited way too long to crack down on asylum seekers.She’s already being asked if she was part of a coverup – vouching for the president’s mental acuity while seeing signs of his decline close up. It also came ahead of a deadline for filing as an independent in West Virginia. Questioned about those reports in late May, Manchin downplayed the rumors but would not rule them out. Switching out President Biden for someone else may not have been so much about getting someone to defeat former President Trump but rather about saving seats down-ballot. In other words, polling has revealed that Harris does not match up much better than Biden. But it may be just enough to salvage seats.The Senate will be tough to hold. But this strategy may be all about flipping the House. The current breakdown is 432 Republicans to 220 Democrats with three vacancies. Democrats need to change a little more than a handful of those seats to reclaim the House. Democrats have done nothing but rail against Republicans and how they’ve run the House for a year and a half. Republicans gave them plenty of fodder. They took days to elect former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker and then dumped him by the fall. The House then consumed 22 days to elect House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) – after burning through three other speaker candidates first. They’ve dealt with various censures and contempt of Congress resolutions, some of which have gone against the wishes of leaders. Democrats have also highlighted the various stunts of Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO). BIDEN DROPPING OUT OF 2024 RACE IS A ‘TECTONIC SHIFT IN POLITICS’: BRET BAIERSo, Democrats thought that pandemonium gave them a great chance to win the House. But Biden was nothing but a dead weight. In other words, this maneuver might prove to be more about the House versus the presidency. The House returns to Capitol Hill tomorrow. And expect a flurry of questions for Democrats about whether they support Vice President Harris to step into the void or someone else. It’s notable that senior leaders like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are not endorsing anyone. They want to see how this plays out and not tip the scale in favor of any individual.Former House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) salvaged Biden’s presidential bid in 2020 ahead of the South Carolina primary.He has supported the president staying in the race but shifted his alliance to Harris today.CLINTONS ENDORSE KAMALA HARRIS HOURS AFTER BIDEN DROPS OUTThe Congressional Black Caucus PAC – not the Congressional Black Caucus – has endorsed Harris. The CBC never put out a statement after Biden’s terrible debate performance in late June. But CBC Chairman Rep. Steve Horsford (D-NV) stood by the president, speaking solely for himself.But when it comes to Harris, it may be about the math – and the Golden State. Forty House Democrats come from California. That’s 9% of the House Democratic Caucus and about 20% of the House Democratic Conference. Harris was a senator from California. So, it may be hard to overcome that. It’s also interesting that Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who ran against the president, was ostracized by some Democrats to the point that he stepped down from a lower-tier leadership position after he raised questions about the president’s viability. The House Progressive Caucus has now endorsed Harris. Some members of the Squad are now backing Harris: Reps. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and Cori Bush (D-MO). The “New Dems Coalition,” which is a bloc of mainstream to moderate Democrats, has also thrown its weight behind Harris. Many of the Democrats calling on Biden to step aside in the early going were New Dems.This has been a slow wave building against Biden. A senior House Democratic leadership source told Fox News the day after the debate that “this was not sustainable.” The source added that those close to the president “have not served him well.”TRUMP SAYS BIDEN ‘IS NOT FIT TO SERVE’: ‘WHO IS GOING TO BE RUNNING THE COUNTRY FOR THE NEXT 5 MONTHS?’Don’t forget that Schumer met with Biden last Saturday at Rehoboth, Delaware. Schumer put out his statement about that meeting minutes before former President Trump was shot in Pennsylvania on July 13. It was thought that more and more Democrats would have come out last week, trying to push Biden out the door. But the shooting delayed some of that. Otherwise, this conversation may have come several days ago. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said, “If President Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as president. They could also begin to hold hearings and investigations, asking who knew what and when about the president’s cognitive abilities.Republicans will also target vulnerable Democrats in competitive states and districts, asking what they knew about Biden’s circumstances. And they will also wonder which of those candidates stands behind Harris. For instance, Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) faces a competitive re-election bid, and she backs Harris. Sen. I’ve been acutely aware of the possibility of President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 race since the debate at the end of June. I was still on maternity leave, but it was about all my friends could talk about. “What do you think he’s going to do?” they asked. “Do we like Kamala, now?” they wondered. “Is there time to swap him out and get on all the ballots?” they panicked. Now we know the answer. Biden just announced that he won’t be seeking reelection this November. And even though I knew it was coming, it feels profoundly sad to me.  ‘PROUD OF OUR PRESIDENT’: DEMS HEAP PRAISE ON BIDEN FOR DECISION TO END 2024 CAMPAIGNSad on a human level. Joe Biden is a fundamentally good man who did not want this outcome. He believes he can win, even if the data doesn’t say so. And sad on a political level. Biden was an incredible president with a record to be enormously proud of. Whoever is at the top of our ticket will no doubt celebrate his accomplishments – and him! – but there’s a joy to how he talks about what the Biden-Harris administration has gotten done that I’ll really miss. Like he always says, it’s personal for him. Getting the American Rescue Plan in response to COVID-19 passed was personal. Because of Biden, low-to-medium income earners got $1,400 to put towards groceries and rent. The child-tax credit was extended. And over $7 billion was allotted for small business loans. Getting the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed was personal. Because of Biden, our roads, bridges, public transport and airports are getting much-needed investment. Over $60 billion is going toward expanding broadband. And $55 billion for clean drinking water. It should be noted that not one single Republican voted for the bill.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONGetting the bipartisan gun safety bill passed was personal. Because of Biden, the largest gun safety legislation in over three decades was signed into law. It includes incentives to states to pass red-flag laws and prohibit people convicted of domestic abuse from owning a gun. It also expands background checks on people ages 18-21. Did it do everything Biden wanted? Absolutely not. But he got it done. Getting the Inflation Reduction Act passed was personal. Because of Biden, the U.S. made the largest investment in combating climate change on record. Corporations now have to pay their fair share. Medicare can now negotiate the price of certain expensive drugs. Insulin is capped at $35 a month! Come on, man, as Biden would say.  Getting the CHIPS and Sciences Act passed was personal. Because of Biden, over $50 billion in federal incentives was granted to semiconductor manufacturing, leading to thousands of new, good-paying jobs across America. There has been over $200 billion in private sector investment as a result. By the end of the decade, we’ll produce close to 20% of the world’s most advanced chips. That’s how you stick it to China. What’s more, under Biden we have record low unemployment and a record high stock market. We are producing more crude oil than any other country in history – 13 million barrels a day. Our economy is the envy of the world. NATO is stronger, and we are a force for good in the world. I could go on, but you’ll no doubt hear about all these accomplishments and more as the campaign unfolds.  I know that I speak for regular Democrats in thanking Joe Biden for an incredible four years and saying that we’re really, really sad. An official cause and manner of death has been released for former President Trump’s would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks. Crooks died of a gunshot wound to the head, the Butler County Coroner’s Office told Fox News Digital Saturday. Frankly, it’s a mundane job, a series of emails and messages of people coming and going and hoping that you are sent to a place with good internet. That was my role at Trump’s Butler rally on Saturday, July 13, and up until 6:11 p.m., it was uneventful.In that 30 seconds after hearing the first sequence of gunshots, screams and cheering, I didn’t know much, but I did know that whatever was going on was life-changing.I’ve covered conflicts and protests all over the world, from Jan. 6 to Ukraine to Israel. These assignments often put you in a place where you become out of control. I found that imagining myself in those situations and thinking about what I would do in that scenario cooled my nerves, planning your mindset ahead to stay in the moment. SECRET SERVICE REVEALS WHEN TRUMP SHOOTER WENT FROM ‘PERSON OF INTEREST’ TO ‘THREAT’Instinctually, that mindset flipped back in. Babydog, the first dog of West Virginia, will have her own bobblehead thanks to the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee.

“Sitting on a circular red, white, and blue base bearing her name, the bobblehead of Babydog has her mouth open and tongue exposed in a playful pose. A replica of the original First Dog of West Virginia, the white, tan, and brown Babydog Bobblehead showcases her cute, stubby legs, along with an abundance of folds around her face,” the museum announced Friday.

2,024 commemorative bobbleheads of the beloved bulldog will be manufactured later this year by the museum’s online store and will cost $30 each, according to the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum. Additional shipping will cost $8.”We’re excited to offer the first bobblehead of Babydog, the First Dog of West Virginia,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum CEO Phil Sklar said.

Sklar added, “Already popular among West Virginians, Babydog added many more people to her growing fan club with her appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. This bobblehead will be a must-have for fans of Babydog!”

4-year-old Babydog took to the Republican National Convention stage in Milwaukee with her dad, Governor Jim Justice, Tuesday. Her appearance quickly made headlines.

Babydog is one of three dogs in the Justice household alongside two Boston terriers named Lucy and Ellie. She turns 5 on October 27.Justice is running for Senate in the Mountain State after serving as governor since 2016. His run is endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

Justice affectionately describes her as a “60-pound brown watermelon.”
