Reporter’s Notebook: ‘Do not stop filming’

Reporter's Notebook: 'Do not stop filming'

It wasn’t a shock, but a moment of déjà vu. A sequence of pops and cracks, a chilling moment of silence across the crowd of more than 15,000, and President Trump being rushed at by his security detail. Is this really happening? As a field producer with one of the five major broadcast networks, you are occasionally assigned as the “network pool” responsible to be the eyes and ears at a major event of interest, directing a small team with the goal of providing editorial independence to the press corps. Frankly, it’s a mundane job, a series of emails and messages of people coming and going and hoping that you are sent to a place with good internet. That was my role at Trump’s Butler rally on Saturday, July 13, and up until 6:11 p.m., it was uneventful. In that 30 seconds after hearing the first sequence of gunshots, screams and cheering, I didn’t know much, but I did know that whatever was going on was life-changing.I’ve covered conflicts and protests all over the world, from Jan. 6 to Ukraine to Israel. These assignments often put you in a place where you become out of control. I found that imagining myself in those situations and thinking about what I would do in that scenario cooled my nerves, planning your mindset ahead to stay in the moment. SECRET SERVICE REVEALS WHEN TRUMP SHOOTER WENT FROM ‘PERSON OF INTEREST’ TO ‘THREAT’Instinctually, that mindset flipped back in. As I was still trying to process what was happening, somehow I remembered the story of Shelly Fielman, the cameraman who filmed the Reagan assassination. I turned to my cameraman and without hesitation called out, “Keep your eyes on Trump! Do not stop filming under any circumstance.” We had to capture the moment, no matter what would happen. But it still wasn’t clear what exactly was happening. When the president was pulled from the ground and dragged away to his motorcade after punching his fist in the air, I realized I had to send some sort of wire report. At that moment, many of us couldn’t believe what we had just seen. All indications pointed to some kind of attack. But we didn’t actually know that. Though placed in a riser situated just 100 feet away from the stage, we didn’t see any gunmen, couldn’t see if Trump was injured and heard barely anything besides screaming from the audience.SECRET SERVICE DIRECTOR AGREES TO TESTIFY AT HOUSE HEARING ON TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTVerify then report. Trust is built on accuracy. Analysis or guesses only cause more confusion. Your words are used to guide the editorial to the whole world. You represent the press corps, and the duty is to get it right. With virtually no internet, I called my boss and said the following:FROM POOL PRODUCER JAMES LEVINSON:Pool heard a series of loud explosions or loud bangs// USSS went and immediately covered President Trump//Pool heard residual bangs afterwards and crowd ducked for cover//Agents grabbed Trump, who was seen waving his fist in air, they left stage left to car and appear to have left the premises//Pool is efforting more information from campaignThe work continued — hours of calls, follow-ups and confirmations before being rushed away by the Secret Service.REPUBLICANS WEIGH IN ON WHAT THEY HOPE AND EXPECT TO HEAR IN TRUMP’S RNC SPEECH: ‘THIS IS HIS MOMENT’To date, that video has been viewed, analyzed and reposted in every corner of the internet. It tells a story on its own, but it’s important to remember that it is only one part of the puzzle of what actually happened that day. In the hours after the incident, the theories, motives and speculations dominated the conversation. In every conversation I’ve had about the attempted assassination, the same three words come: “You witnessed history.” I think it’s also important to remember that for three families who came to the rally, that day will be remembered as one of the worst of their lives. I’m sure they wished it was just any ordinary day.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPI’ve learned in this job that history is often associated with tragedy. It’s a privilege to cover moments like this, and our duty is to make sure we can be as accurate as possible and treat our readers and viewers with respect. More information and rewrites and reviews will continue to come. I hope that my first draft of history met that moment.

SHEILA JACKSON LEE SAYS SHE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH PANCREATIC CANCERShe previously battled breast cancer, having been diagnosed in 2011, before announcing the following year she was cancer free.”A local, national, and international humanitarian, she was acknowledged worldwide for her courageous fights for racial justice, criminal justice, and human rights, with a special emphasis on women and children,” her office said.Prior to her time in Congress, Jackson Lee served as a judge before she was elected to an at-large Houston City Council seat in 1989.Last year, she ran an unsuccessful campaign for Houston mayor, losing by a wide margin to then-state Sen. John Whitmire, also a Democrat, before announcing she would seek re-election in Congress.”Her legislative victories impacted millions, from establishing the Juneteenth Federal Holiday to reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act,” her office stated.”However, she impacted us most as our beloved wife, sister, mother, and Bebe (grandmother),” the statement continued. “She will be dearly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire all who believe in freedom, justice, and democracy. The most popular speaker at the 2024 Republican National Convention is being recognized for her celebrity in a brand-new way. Even though she didn’t say a word.

Babydog, the first dog of West Virginia, will have her own bobblehead thanks to the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee.

ALL ABOUT BABYDOG: THE GOVERNOR’S PET THAT STOLE THE SHOW AT THE RNC

“Sitting on a circular red, white, and blue base bearing her name, the bobblehead of Babydog has her mouth open and tongue exposed in a playful pose. A replica of the original First Dog of West Virginia, the white, tan, and brown Babydog Bobblehead showcases her cute, stubby legs, along with an abundance of folds around her face,” the museum announced Friday.

2,024 commemorative bobbleheads of the beloved bulldog will be manufactured later this year by the museum’s online store and will cost $30 each, according to the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum. Additional shipping will cost $8.”We’re excited to offer the first bobblehead of Babydog, the First Dog of West Virginia,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum CEO Phil Sklar said.

Sklar added, “Already popular among West Virginians, Babydog added many more people to her growing fan club with her appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. This bobblehead will be a must-have for fans of Babydog!”

Lawsuit over Tennessee law that puts limits on drag shows dismissed by federal court in win for Republicans

Lawsuit over Tennessee law that puts limits on drag shows dismissed by federal court in win for Republicans

In a win for Tennessee’s Republican-led legislature, a federal appeals court on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit brought by an LGBTQ group that challenged a state law restricting drag shows considered “harmful to minors.”Friends of George’s, a Memphis-based theater that does “drag-centric performances,” sued over the law last year, claiming it would hurt its business because it has no age restrictions. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday ruled that Friends of George’s didn’t have legal standing to sue over the law because it wasn’t at risk of violating the law, finding its shows weren’t “harmful to minors.”The ruling reverses a lower court decision that called the law unconstitutional after the group sued, temporarily blocking its enforcement in Memphis’ Shelby County. The lower court had called the law “substantially overbroad” and said it encouraged “discriminatory enforcement.” SUPREME COURT DENIES DESANTIS IN LEGAL BATTLE OVER DRAG QUEEN BANWith the support of Republican Gov. Bill Lee, the first-of-its-kind law was passed by the state legislature last year but has faced legal hurdles since then. “Harmful to minors” has been defined by the Tennessee Supreme Court as shows that lack “serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for a reasonable 17-year-old minor.”In its ruling Thursday, the appeals court said Friends of George’s “has not alleged that its performances lack serious value for a 17-year-old. In fact, it insists the exact opposite. Its own witness, a member of FOG’s board, conceded that its shows ‘are definitely appropriate’ for a 15-year-old and would ‘absolutely’ have artistic value for a 17-year-old.” DRAG PERFORMER SPEAKS OUT AGAINST ALLOWING KIDS TO ATTEND DRAG SHOWS: ‘THIS IS AN ADULT VENUE’But state Rep. Aftyn Behn, a Democrat, claimed Thursday’s ruling was a “misguided attack on the LGBTQ+ community.””This isn’t about protecting kids; it’s about spreading fear and division,” she said. “It’s ironic that those who claim to support small government are the first to impose it on our personal freedoms.”Fox News Digital has reached out to Friends of George’s for comment. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti argued, however, the law was “constitutionally sound.”CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP”As a state overflowing with world-class artists and musicians, Tennessee respects the right to free expression,” he said in a statement. “But as the court noted, Tennessee’s ‘harmful to minors’ standard is constitutionally sound, and Tennessee can absolutely prohibit the exhibition of obscene material to children.”

Basketball trainer dishes on Caitlin Clark’s popularity amid WNBA stardom

Basketball trainer dishes on Caitlin Clark's popularity amid WNBA stardom

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been one of the most polarizing figures in sports since she got drafted into the WNBA, through no fault of her own.Her name has been discussed in culture discussions, from race to likability and jealousy in the WNBA.Several WNBA players have seemed to go out of their way to take their shots at Clark, both on and off the court.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMClark was the victim of a flagrant foul on a blindside check by Chicago Sky’s Chennedy Carter, while a member of the Connecticut Sun said it was “seat belt season” when Clark played against them.Basketball trainer Chris Brickley, who has worked out with Sky rookie star Angel Reese, told Fox News Digital that Clark is in a helpless situation, leading to people “for sure” disliking her.But it goes both ways.”Anyone that’s really good, or great, people are going to dislike, and people are going to love. That’s how life works,” Brickley said.CELEBRITY BASKETBALL TRAINER OFFERS POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON BRONNY JAMES’ NBA CAREERA’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces made headlines just prior to the start of the WNBA season when she said that Clark being White was a “huge thing” in her popularity. But earlier this month, Wilson said the “energy” in the WNBA has shifted from gossip and making headlines to appreciation for the game.”It’s a good vibe, it’s a good feel. People are just coming to see the product on the floor. It got a little too gossipy in the beginning, but then it started to fizzle out because people are starting to realize we’re really good at what we do, we’re elite at what we do. I love the energy now,” Wilson said after she went against Clark’s Indiana Fever. The two shared a hug after that game.”People are seeing good hoops, and that’s what it’s about. We come out here, we work hard, we play basketball at a very high level, and people are believing in it, they’re trusting in it and investing in it. And that’s the energy we’re feeling right now,” Wilson continued.Last month, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert shut down the notion that she was targeted, saying it seems that way due to her spotlight and that her treatment on the floor is similar to everyone else. The rookie phenom received the most votes for this weekend’s All-Star Game, being the only player to receive more than 700,000 votes. Trump preaches unity as he accepts GOP presidential nomination days after surviving assassination attempt

Trump preaches unity as he accepts GOP presidential nomination days after surviving assassination attempt

MILWAUKEE – Five days after surviving an assassination attempt, former President Trump pleaded for national unity as he formally accepted the GOP presidential nomination during the culminating moment of the 2024 Republican National Convention.”I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America, because there is no victory in winning for half of America,” Trump emphasized as he addressed the thousands of delegates, party officials and activists packed into Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum and to the national audience of Americans watching the convention from home.”The discord and division in our society must be healed. As Americans, we are bound together by a single fate and a shared destiny. We rise together. Or we fall apart,” the former president noted. The shooting, at Trump’s rally Saturday in western Pennsylvania where one spectator was killed, along with the gunman, instantly impacted the tone and message of the convention, and as Trump has acknowledged, altered his convention address.MCCARTHY SAYS TRUMP SHOWING ‘REAL LEADERSHIP’ TO THE WORLD AFTER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT”Let me begin this evening by expressing my gratitude to the American people for your outpouring of love and support following the assassination attempt at my rally on Saturday,” Trump said. “As you already know, the assassin’s bullet came within a quarter of an inch of taking my life.” The former president and GOP presidential nominee said that “so many people have asked me what happened, and therefore, I’ll tell you what happened.” “You’ll never hear it from me a second time, because it’s too painful to tell,” he said. Trump recounted the shooting, saying he knew “we were under attack.”  Trump praised the “very brave Secret Service agents who rushed to the stage and pounced on top of me for protection.” “There was blood pouring everywhere, and yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe, because I had God on my side,” Trump said. “The amazing thing is that prior to the shot, if I had NOT moved my head at the very last instant, the assassin’s bullet would have perfectly hit its mark, and I would not be with you tonight.” “I am not supposed to be here tonight. I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of almighty God. Many people say it was a providential moment,” Trump said. But the crowd chanted: “Yes you are. Yes you are.” And he acknowledged that “none of us knows God’s plan, or where life’s adventure will take us. But if the events of last Saturday make anything clear, it is that every single moment we have on earth is a gift from God. We have to make the most of every day for the people and country we love.”EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE TO COREY COMPERATORE DURING RNC SPEECH: ‘SPIRIT THAT FORGED AMERICA’Trump also pointed to the helmet and firefighting jacket of Corey Comperatore, the former fire chief killed at the rally, which were placed on the stage by the former president. And he asked the audience to observe a moment of silence. He said he has raised more than $6 million in recent days for Comperatore’s family, and the families of the two men who were seriously wounded in the shooting. The former president also took time to thank his wife, former first lady Melania Trump. “On this journey, I am deeply honored to be joined by my amazing wife, Melania,” Trump told the crowd in Milwaukee during an emotional speech. He then referred to her letter to America, in which she called for unity in the wake of the assassination attempt against her husband.”I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans,” she wrote. “Dawn is here again. Let us reunite. Now.”The former president praised the letter.”And Melania, thank you very much. You also did something really beautiful. A letter to America calling for national unity. And it really took the Republican Party by surprise. I will tell you, it was beautiful,’ he said.”Some very serious people said that we should take that letter and put it as part of the Republican platform. That would be an honor, wouldn’t it?”The former president also thanked his family, especially his children and grandchildren. But in the wake of his brush with death, the former president called for a lowering of the temperature in a political climate seared with heated rhetoric from both the right and the left.”In an age when our politics too often divide us, now is the time to remember that we are all fellow citizens—we are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” Trump stressed.”We must not criminalize dissent or demonize political disagreement. In that spirit, the Democrat Party should immediately stop weaponizing the Justice System and labeling their political opponent as an enemy of democracy, especially since that is not true,” Trump claimed.Making a pitch “to every citizen, whether you are young or old, man or woman, Democrat, Republican, or Independent, black or white, Asian or Hispanic,” Trump repeatedly criticized the administration of the Democratic incumbent in the White House, but only mentioned President Biden’s name once. “They will not have done the damage that Biden has done, only going to use the term once,” Trump said. “Biden. I’m not going to use the name anymore. Just one time.” LIVE UPDATES: REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTIONPointing to inflation, the crisis at the nation’s southern border with Mexico, and the ongoing wars in Ukraine and in Gaza, Trump argued that “it is time for a change. We simply cannot sustain four more years of this administration.”Trump reminded his supporters that the MAGA movement “has never been about me, it has always been about you.” “It has always been about the hardworking, patriotic citizens of America,” he said. Trump was joined on the podium following his address by his family and by his running mate Sen. JD Vance, and the senator from Ohio’s family. The former president announced on Monday as the convention kicked off that the 39-year-old Vance, a one-time Trump critic who has transformed into a leading America First disciple, would serve as his running mate.”I am thrilled to have a new friend and partner fighting by my side: the next Vice President of the United States, the current Senator from Ohio, J.D. Vance, and his incredible wife, Usha,” Trump said minutes earlier as he gave a shout-out during his address to his running mate.CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS UPDATES FROM THE GOP CONVENTIONRepublicans used their convention as a venue to reunite the party and energize delegates and activists ahead of the final stretch of the campaign in Trump’s 2024 election rematch with Biden. The push for party unity was on display throughout the convention and included former GOP presidential rivals Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and former U.N. ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley – who both battled Trump in a contentious primary season – delivering speeches from the podium in support of the former president. The Biden campaign took aim at Trump, Vance, and Republicans as the GOP convention wrapped up.”Over the course of the last four days Republicans have offered their vision for the country. And now it’s never been more clear that Americans will face a stark choice, a contrasting vision for this country,” Biden principal deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks emphasized.”The Biden-Harris ticket who’s focused on uniting the country, creating opportunity for everyone, and lowering costs or the Trump-Vance one – with a harmful agenda of taking away Americans’ rights, hurting the middle class, and making life more expensive – all while benefiting the ultra-rich and greedy corporations benefit,” Fulks argued.Trump’s convention address comes less than two months after he was convicted of 34 felony counts in the first criminal trial of a former or current president in the nation’s history. But the Supreme Court ruled on the issue of presidential immunity–a question stemming from charges brought against Trump by Special Counsel Jack Smith. The high court ruled that a president is immune from “official acts.” Trump is using that Supreme Court precedent in an effort to overturn the verdict and appeal. A judge delayed Trump’s possible sentencing until September. Last month, though, Biden severely stumbled with a disastrous debate performance against Trump, which has led to a rising chorus of calls from within the Democratic Party for the president to end his 2024 re-election bid and bow out of the race.Reports over the past 24 hours indicated that top Democrats – including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – have had frank conversations with Biden about him ending his campaign. And as Trump delivered his convention address, speculation was rampant that the president could bow out of the 2024 election within days. But Biden campaign spokesman TJ Ducklo told Fox News Digital those reports are “entirely inaccurate.” And another Biden aide tells Fox News Digital that Biden “is more committed than ever to winning this election.” Get the latest updates from the 2024 campaign trail, exclusive interviews and more at our Fox News Digital election hub.

Key Largo tree cactus no longer exists in US: ‘My eyes bugged out’

Key Largo tree cactus no longer exists in US: 'My eyes bugged out'

A tropical cactus that was once found in the Florida Keys no longer exists in the United States, save for some conservation collections, a field biologist told Fox News Digital this week. The Key Largo tree cactus was wiped out by rising sea levels in the region, among other factors, according to Jennifer Possley, who wrote about its demise in a paper published earlier this month in the Journal of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas.Possley is director of regional conservation at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden in Coral Gables, Florida, near Miami. She’s part of a group of scientists and researchers who collectively have studied the species since it was first discovered at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in 1992.FLORIDA TREASURE HUNTERS AMAZED BY DISCOVERY IN 300-YEAR-OLD SHIPWRECKS: ‘YOU DON’T EXPECT THAT'”Which sounds crazy in some ways,” Possley told Fox News Digital, considering the Key Largo tree cactus was two stories tall and as wide as a few cars. “But it was in a super isolated area in this pocket within some tall mangroves,” she said. “So nobody in their right mind would have walked past it.”Nobody knows for sure how long the Key Largo tree cactus had been there, but Possley said it was likely decades and “could have been there for 100 years.”The Florida Keys is home to at least eight species of cacti, and sea-level rise is a known threat to many rare plant populations there, according to the paper.FLORIDA-DISCOVERED SNAIL SPECIES FOUND NEAR JIMMY BUFFET’S MARGARITAVILLA: SEE THE MARGARITA-COLORED CREATUREIn 2007, when Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden helped Florida’s state parks monitor the cacti population, the Key Largo tree cactus – known by its scientific name “Pilosocereus millspaughii” – was “doing great,” Possley said. “And it did great for a few years.”By 2012, Possley said, it “had started to go downhill a little bit, but nothing alarming.”However, by 2015, it was clear to Possley and the others that “something was eating the cactus.””My eyes bugged out because [there were] extensive marks and damage to the point where it killed a lot of the plant,” she said.Although it should have recovered, Possley said, the cactus continued to decline – the result of some major hurricanes and “king tides.”By 2019, “there was actually salt water lapping at the roots of the plants, which we had never seen before,” Possley said.In July 2023, it became apparent the Key Largo tree cactus would not survive, Possley said. “Its decline and ensuing extirpation correspond with rising sea levels in the region,” the paper said.LOCAL DENGUE FEVER CASES CONFIRMED IN FLORIDA KEYS, SPREAD BY MOSQUITO BITES”The other cacti in the region, and all rare plants in the Florida Keys, are threatened with a similar fate.”But it’s unfair to solely blame sea-level rise, Possley clarified.”We really think that the reason this cactus has disappeared was from a combination of events, including sea-level rise,” she said. “And the herbivory was certainly part of that. The passing hurricanes were also definitely contributors.”CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERPossley said the Key Largo tree cactus “is probably not going to be the first species we lose to the complications from sea-level rise.” She said there are “quite a few plants” in the Keys that are “significantly imperiled.””This was a really cool species that we could claim as part of our botanical heritage here in South Florida,” she said. “And it’s gone.”For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyleAlthough it has vanished from the U.S. ecosystem, the Key Largo tree cactus is technically not extinct. It lives on in coastal areas of Cuba and the Bahamas, as well as in conservation collections like the one at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, Possley noted.

Angelina Jolie asks Brad Pitt to ‘end the fighting’ and drop heated winery legal battle

Angelina Jolie asks Brad Pitt to 'end the fighting' and drop heated winery legal battle

Angelina Jolie wants ex-husband Brad Pitt to “end the fighting” over the former couple’s French winery.Jolie’s legal team is on the hunt for more evidence to prove Pitt wrong after he sued the actress in 2022. Pitt sued Jolie after the “Maleficent” star sold her stake in Miraval and requested the judge declare the sale “null and void.”Most recently, Jolie demanded Pitt hand over third-party communications relating to a 2016 plane incident. Jolie and Pitt allegedly had a physical altercation on the plane and the actress filed for divorce shortly after.”Mr. Pitt has control of all the properties the couple shared as well as control of the business, but still he demands more, and is suing Angelina for $67 million plus punitive damages,” Jolie’s lawyer, Paul Murphy, told Fox News Digital in a statement. “In doing so, Pitt placed squarely at issue why he tried to punish and control Angelina by demanding a newly expanded NDA to cover his personal misconduct and abuse. Those actions are central to these proceedings.”BRAD PITT, ANGELINA JOLIE’S DAUGHTER HIRED OWN LAWYER TO DROP ACTOR’S LAST NAME: SOURCE”We are not at all surprised Mr. Pitt is afraid to turn over the documents demonstrating these facts,” the lawyer continued. “While Angelina again asks Mr. Pitt to end the fighting and finally put their family on a clear path toward healing, unless Mr. Pitt withdraws his lawsuit, Angelina has no choice but to obtain the evidence necessary to prove his allegations wrong.”However, a source familiar with Pitt’s response to Jolie’s request told Fox News Digital the winery lawsuit is a “straightforward business dispute.””This is a straightforward business dispute, but unfortunately, the other side has consistently introduced personal elements which have exposed the weaknesses in their case and complicated and lengthened the proceedings,” the source said.LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSPitt’s response in opposition to Jolie’s request for third-party communications relating to the 2016 plane incident focused on privacy concerns.”Jolie cannot meet her burden to show that the relevance of the documents she seeks outweighs Pitt’s countervailing privacy interests – particularly given the publicity surrounding the parties and this case – or that the feasible alternatives that serve the same interests or protective measures that would diminish the loss of privacy are insufficient,” a July 11 filing, obtained by Fox News Digital, read. The actor’s legal team claimed Pitt has suggested other “feasible alternatives” than publicly producing the evidence Jolie requested.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERThe former couple bought a controlling stake in Château Miraval in 2008 and spent time at the home throughout their relationship. Jolie attempted to sell her company, Nouvel, to Tenute Del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, in 2021, effectively transferring her 50% ownership interest in Miraval. Pitt has fought this sale, claiming the move breached a contract between the two.Meanwhile, Jolie’s company claimed Pitt has been the mastermind of a “vindictive campaign” to “loot” the profitable business since she first filed for divorce in 2016.Nouvel accused Pitt of “hijacking” Château Miraval and “wasting” the company’s assets on unnecessary renovation projects, including spending $1 million on swimming pool renovations, according to the court documents previously obtained by Fox News Digital.

She had named the unborn child Sebastian. On Wednesday, police say they arrested Campos’s ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Jesus Monroy, on a charge of giving false statements to a police officer.”During that interview they determined he provided false statements and he was arrested in connection to providing false statements to a police officer,” Sgt. Ask a doctor: ‘Is it safe to swim underwater with my eyes open?’

Ask a doctor: ‘Is it safe to swim underwater with my eyes open?’

Hot summer days include plenty of pool or beach time for many people — but it’s important to stay safe while swimming. While it may be tempting to open your eyes underwater, experts warn that prolonged exposure could put your vision at risk.Fox News Digital spoke with Brian Boxer Wachler, M.D., an ophthalmologist in Beverly Hills, California, who is also a medical reviewer with All About Vision, an online resource, about what happens when people take a peek while swimming.ASK A DOCTOR: ‘WHY ARE MY EYES OFTEN BLOODSHOT?’A quick glance likely won’t be harmful, the expert said — but extended periods of underwater peeping could cause problems.”Usually when people open their eyes underwater, the [eyes] begin to feel irritated and they will close their eyes pretty quickly,” Wachler said. When swimming in pool water, the chlorine can irritate the eyes, he warned.Chlorine can cause damage to the outer layer cells that protect the cornea, Dr. Muriel Schornack, a Mayo Clinic optometrist in Minnesota, stated on the clinic’s website.NEBRASKA BABY BORN WITH CATARACTS HAS 3 EYE SURGERIES TO SAVE HER SIGHT: ‘I JUST KEPT PRAYING’As a result, the eye may become red, irritated or sensitive to light, the doctor warned. You may also notice blurred vision.”A lot of folks who are highly nearsighted or highly farsighted like to wear their contact lenses while they’re swimming — and if chlorine soaks into those lenses, now you’ve got a reservoir of chlorine on the surface of the eye that’s likely to do damage,” Schornack noted on Mayo Clinic’s site.ASK A DOCTOR: ‘WHY AM I HEARING MY HEARTBEAT IN MY EARS?’With saltwater or untreated freshwater, the effects can be even harsher, and can potentially introduce bacteria into the eyes, Wachler warned.”Microscopic organisms are found in various bodies of water, and can be both beneficial and harmful,” he said.Bacteria such as E. coli can thrive in contaminated freshwater, while saltwater teems with decomposers like Vibrio, according to the ophthalmologist.”Viruses like those causing hepatitis A can linger in polluted water,” he said. “Protozoa such as Giardia can cause diarrhea if ingested from untreated sources, while molds like Aspergillus may be found in damp areas around freshwater.”If you’ve been swimming with your eyes open for an extended period, watch out for signs of irritation like redness, itchiness and a burning sensation, Wachler advised. “You might also experience watery eyes or increased sensitivity to light,” he said. “These are usually temporary and go away on their own.”CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERIf you notice a thicker discharge, have trouble seeing or experience severe pain, it could be a sign of infection and warrants a trip to the doctor. For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews/healthFor those who want to look underwater while swimming, experts recommend wearing goggles to protect the eyes.

Trump shooter’s former American politics classmate on conversations with would-be assassin Thomas Crooks

Trump shooter's former American politics classmate on conversations with would-be assassin Thomas Crooks

A former classmate of would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks says the 20-year-old gunman was quiet with a small friend group, noting that she would never have pegged him for his actions at the Trump rally.Sarah D’Angelo, a nursing student, shared with Fox News Digital her scant interactions with Crooks as the pair attended school together for eight years and shared a homeroom classroom at Bethel Park High School.D’Angelo painted a portrait of Crooks’ personality, interests and perception at the school.”He had a small friend group,” D’Angelo said. “He wasn’t a loner but was not the most popular kid in the class.”4 QUESTIONS TRUMP SHOOTER’S FAMILY, ACQUAINTANCES ARE BEING ASKED BY FBI: FORMER OFFICERThe 20-year-old’s political leanings have been a hot topic, with people pointing to his Republican voter registration and others pointing to his $15 campaign donation to a progressive political action committee. D’Angelo said Crooks did not reveal his political affiliation in class, even as the classmates shared an American politics class in high school.”We had [an] American politics class. It was half a year during senior year,” she said. “And he never made any of his political views outward.”Crooks’ classmate said they shared homeroom together in high school as well as a few classes, including Advanced Placement classes.”In homeroom, he would play on his computer a lot. He was very into that,” she said. “And he would sit with just a few friends at lunch.”SECRET SERVICE INCREASED TRUMP’S PROTECTION AFTER IRANIAN PLOT TO ASSASSINATE HIMD’Angelo said she did not recall Crooks being bullied in high school, adding that there were other people in the school who she thought were “more capable.””Maybe other people in the school that I thought would probably more be capable of such a thing, and he’s definitely not one of them, I would think of,” she said. “But it’s also because he didn’t talk to a lot of people. So, you don’t really know what’s going on inside his head.”Crooks, she described, was a good student and graduated with honors. Bethel High School gave honors students either silver or golden cords representing their educational achievement. In a photo of his high school graduation, Crooks is seen wearing a silver cord. D’Angelo said the silver cord represented a 3.85 or higher cumulative GPA.D’Angelo, who was sitting near Crooks during the pair’s high school graduation, recalled her last interaction with the student turned assassin. WHAT FBI SEARCHING TRUMP SHOOTER’S PHONE, LAPTOP AT QUANTICO ARE LOOKING FOR: FORMER AGENT”He was just a few seats away from me [at the graduation ceremony], D’Angelo said. “I remember talking to him and another kid, just commenting on the day and the length of the ceremony.”Crooks, his classmate said, was smart and interacted regularly in class discussions.”He participated as much as a normal person would,” she said. “He was always kind to the people around him.”D’Angelo said that when she first heard the news of the unsuccessful attempt on the 45th president’s life, she thought it was her classmates’ relative.FORMER CLASSMATE RECALLS TRUMP SHOOTER GRILLING HIM OVER SUPPORT OF FORMER POTUS: ‘DID NOT LIKE POLITICIANS’”It’s shocking to hear someone from your high school, that you knew, would do something as tragic as that,” she said. “I honestly originally thought it was a relative, because I heard Thomas, and he never went by that. He went by Tom or Tommy.”The classmate said they were supposed to attend Trump’s rally at the Butler Farm Show fairgrounds in Butler, but they decided against it at the last minute.”It’s sad, and I was so nauseous on Sunday hearing about it because you don’t think something like that would happen so close,” D’Angelo said. “I don’t want to speak for all of us, but we just really want to move on from this.”D’Angelo reiterated what other classmates and residents have shared, saying their town of 33,000 does not want this incident to define their town.”This is a community, a close community that is family-oriented,” she said. “We’re good American citizens, and Bethel High School is really close.””This experience just did not seem to add up to happen in Bethel Park,” she said. “Our hearts go out to the families that were affected in this.”
