Trump, Biden reportedly had 'good conversation' after assassination attempt

Fox News anchor Bret Baier reported on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” that former President Trump was in “great spirits” recovering from the assassination attempt against him and praised his “good conversation” with President Biden.STEVE SCALISE: THE LEFT’S ‘HYPER-CHARGED,’ VIOLENT RHETORIC ‘NEEDS TO STOP’BRET BAIER: He’s in really great spirits. He is on his way to Milwaukee, leaving at 3:30. He made a Truth Social post about that saying they’re not going to let the shooter affect any of his plans. He did consider delaying coming here to Milwaukee but is moving forward with that. He’s amazed that it happened. He understands he’s blessed to be where he is today. In fact, the doctor he talked to said if that bullet was a quarter of an inch in a different position, he would not be talking to that doctor today. He told me a number of things, but I asked about the convention, his thoughts about things. He had a couple of posts on Truth Social that called for unity in the country. He expressed that he is going to make that a theme here in the convention and may be making some changes based on what he says, what others are doing. He did talk about inviting Nikki Haley to speak and her accepting that as one of those things. He praised President Biden for the phone call that he gave him, made to the former president. He said it was a good conversation and, in not so many words, Biden expressed condolences for the family that was lost, the Comperatore family, and the former president mentioned that as well. RALLYGOERS DOUBLE DOWN ON TRUMP SUPPORT AFTER WITNESSING HARROWING ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT: ‘WE FIGHT HARDER’An attempted assassination of former Trump took place on Saturday in Pennsylvania, shocking the world as the presumptive Republican nominee escaped death by what seemed like inches.Trump was led offstage from the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally with blood pouring from his right ear, but not before raising his fist and gesturing to the crowd in defiance.Biden spoke with Trump as well as Pennsylvania Gov. We must unite as one nation to demonstrate who we are,” he said. LIVE UPDATES ON DEADLY SHOOTING AT TRUMP RALLYBiden’s speech Sunday came after he and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed in the White House Situation Room from homeland security and law enforcement officials. Biden called former President Trump after the attempt on Trump’s life Saturday night. Biden seen leaving church minutes after Trump shooting

President Biden was seen leaving Mass at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, just minutes after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Photos exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital show Biden leaving church at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, putting on a black baseball cap as he walked out of church flanked by allies and Secret Service members. The photos were taken roughly five minutes after Trump was injured by a shooter at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which is located about an hour north of Pittsburgh. Fox News confirmed the attack is being investigated as an assassination attempt. Trump was seen grabbing his right ear before hitting the ground and Secret Service members then surrounding him. He was then escorted off the stage by the Secret Service, with his right ear covered in blood. BIDEN CAMPAIGN PULLING ADS IN WAKE OF TRUMP RALLY SHOOTING”Fight!” Trump appeared to yell at the crowd while giving a fist bump.Biden addressed the nation shortly following the assassination attempt, calling it “sick.” BIDEN TO SPEAK TO TWO HOUSE DEM GROUPS WHILE HUNKERED DOWN IN DREARY DELAWARE AHEAD OF HIGH-STAKES INTERVIEWS”It’s sick. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured,” Trump posted. “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Barbora Krejcikova delivers thrilling Wimbledon women’s final, wins second career Grand Slam title

Barbora Krejcikova delivers thrilling Wimbledon women's final, wins second career Grand Slam title

Barbora Krejcikova outlasted Jasmine Paolini Saturday to win the second Grand Slam singles title of her career. It took Krejcikova three match points to overcome a fierce comeback by Paolini, but she ultimately defeated the Italian tennis star 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in the women’s Wimbledon final in London.Moments after she won the prestigious title for the first time, Krejcikova said she hoped her victory at the All England Club made the late Jana Novotná proud.”The only thing that was going through my head,” Krejcikova said of that moment, “was that I miss Jana a lot. It was just very, very emotional. … I think she would be proud.”CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMKrejcikova grew up admiring Novotná, the 1998 Wimbledon champion. Novotná and Krejcikova are both natives of the Czech Republic. Novotná once encouraged Krejcikova to stick with tennis and predicted she would one day win a Grand Slam.NOVAK DJOKOVIC ABRUPTLY ENDS INTERVIEW OVER REPEATED QUESTIONS ON WIMBLEDON CROWDEven after holding on to win on her third match point, Krejcikova insisted that nobody — not her friends, not her family, not even herself — would believe what she’s accomplished. It was relatively unlikely, after all, given that she dealt with a back injury and illness this season and her record in 2024 was just 7-9 when she arrived at the grass court major.Krejcikova is the eighth woman to leave Wimbledon as the champion in the past eight editions of the event. Last year’s champion, unseeded Marketa Vondrousova, is also from the Czech Republic. She lost in the first round last week.Paolini, the runner-up to Iga Świątek at the French Open last month, is the first woman since Serena Williams in 2016 to get to the finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season and the first since Venus Williams in 2002 to lose both.”If I keep this level,” Paolini said, “I think I can have the chance to do great things.”This match was as back-and-forth as could be.Fittingly, the last game took 14 points to decide, with Krejcikova needing to fend off a pair of break chances. She eventually converted her third match point when Paolini missed a backhand.”I was just telling myself to be brave,” said Krejcikova, who also owns seven Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles, including two at Wimbledon, and three in mixed doubles.During the trophy ceremony, Krejcikova spoke about Novotná’s influence on her tennis life — and her life, in general — as she did following her singles triumph in Paris in 2021.A reporter asked Krejcikova what she’d like to say to Novotná now that they both are Wimbledon champions.”Well, I think I would turn it around,” Krejcikova said with a smile. “I would like to hear what she would tell me.”The Associated Press contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

NATO’s Stoltenberg sidesteps Biden, Trump spat, champions nations hitting spending targets

NATO's Stoltenberg sidesteps Biden, Trump spat, champions nations hitting spending targets

As the NATO summit drew to a close Thursday, signs the contentious U.S. presidential race was just kicking off became increasingly clear as President Biden and former President Trump used the international event as an opportunity to bolster their campaigns.Speaking with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg refused to credit just one man when it comes to the jump in GDP defense spending that NATO nations have made in 2024. Twenty-three of the 32 allies have now met their 2% commitments. “Former President Trump had a very clear message that the European allies had to pay more. This has been a message from consecutive U.S. administrations, and this message has had an impact,” Stoltenberg said. ZELENSKYY SAYS UKRAINE CAN’T WIN WAR UNLESS US LIFTS LIMITS ON STRIKING MILITARY TARGETS IN RUSSIATrump and Biden have pointed to the record number of NATO nations hitting their GDP defense spending commitments, first pledged in 2006, as significant accomplishments of their corresponding presidencies.Trump has been vocal in saying he forced NATO allies to pony up during his tenure. The number of allies to meet their spending commitments did increase to nine in 2020 from the five nations who met their commitments in 2016 when he entered office. That number dropped to six once he left in 2021.The greatest jump in NATO defense expenditure occurred this year when, for the first time ever, 23 of the 32 nations under the alliance met their spending agreements.Supporters of Trump point to the war in Ukraine, not the Biden administration, as the main driving force behind this jump in European defense spending.Canada, which has garnered years of scrutiny for its apparent refusal to meet its defense spending commitment, announced Thursday it would finally fulfill its 2% spending pledge by 2032. But it is unclear if all the alliance is truly satisfied with this promise, particularly as smaller NATO nations have not only met their agreements but spend well beyond the 2% limit, including Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, all of which share a border with Russia. The eight other countries that fall short of their spending goals are Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Spain. Iceland is exempt from the 2% commitment as it does not have a standing military.ZELENSKYY SAYS PUTIN ‘HATES’ BIDEN AND TRUMP, TIME FOR ‘STRONG DECISIONS’Several international officials expressed concern this week that the 2% spending commitments agreed upon nearly two decades ago no longer reflect the realistic needs of the alliance in the face of increasingly aggressive authoritarian regimes like Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. “We must be clear-eyed about the challenges ahead, and yet not allow fear to make us waver. We are at an inflection point. The choices we make now will decide the future of Ukraine, Europe and this alliance,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said Thursday. “Ukrainians clearly understand the existential nature of this war.”The rest of us — unfortunately — are still battling with the obstacles of our own creation. We still have to change our peacetime mentality and finally make our spending on defense reflect the threat we face.”In an interview with John Roberts, the co-anchor of “America Reports,” Finnish President Alexander Stubb noted, “I would actually like to give Trump credit because I think he was right on the 2% limit. And, look, in 2014, out of the allies, only three reached that level. I think in 2018 it was something like ten. Now it’s 23. Would that have happened if Trump hadn’t pushed for it? I don’t think so. Would it have happened without circumstance? Probably not.”U.K. Defense Secretary John Healey, who was appointed just one week ago after a landslide election for the Labour Party, said the new administration would be working to increase NATO spending commitments.”I think everyone will draw encouragement from the fact that, for the first time, we’ve now got 23 of the 32 nations meeting that 2%. We’re pushing towards 2.5%,” Healey said in reference to the U.K.’s current spending. “I think any assessment of the growing threats that we face and the global instability suggests that all NATO nations are going to need to do more than simply 2%.”On Thursday, Biden championed other efforts he’s made to strengthen NATO, like adding Finland and Sweden to the alliance. “Foreign policy has never been his strong point. And he seems to have an affinity to people who are authoritarian,” Biden said in reference to Trump.Speaking at a news conference following the NATO summit, Biden told reporters, “I’m not having any of my European allies come up to me and say, ‘Joe, don’t run.’ “What I hear them say is, ‘You’ve got to win. You can’t let this guy come forward. He’d be a disaster. He’d be a disaster.'” When pressed by Fox News about sentiment toward the U.S. presidency among allied nations, Stoltenberg said, “NATO is the most successful alliance in history because we have been able to stay out of domestic politics.”It’s not for NATO to have any opinion about who is going to be elected as next president or prime minister in an allied country.”

Benches clear between Yankees and Orioles after batter gets hit in head with 96 mph pitch

Benches clear between Yankees and Orioles after batter gets hit in head with 96 mph pitch

An old AL East rivalry was reheated Friday night as the benches cleared between the Yankees and Orioles in the bottom of the ninth.Yankees closer Clay Holmes hit Heston Kjerstad in the head with a 96.8 mph sinker, which didn’t do much sinking, on an 0-2 pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning.Kjerstad was quickly tended to by trainers and his manager, Brandon Hyde, but, given the frightening situation, Hyde was red-hot and had some words with Holmes and catcher Austin Wells.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThird baseman Oswaldo Cabrera and an umpire held Holmes back before anything could happen, but only temporarily. After Kjerstad reached first (he was pinch-ran for), Hyde walked back toward the field and was yelling in the direction of the Yankees dugout — it appeared he was yelling at third base coach Luis Rojas, who was snapping right back.Wells did his best to hold Hyde back, but he couldn’t do much, as both teams met right near home plate, and the bullpens came sprinting from the outfield. There was some light pushing and shoving that ensued, but no player was ejected (other than Hyde), and no punches were thrown — so, it wasn’t quite their brawl from 1998.COMEDIAN NIKKI GLASER POKES FUN AT SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER’S ARREST, SHOHEI OHTANI’S INTERPRETER AT ESPYSYankees manager Aaron Boone said he understood why Hyde was upset, noting that Hyde should have his players’ backs — Hyde, though, said the Yankees bench was “waving” and “yelling” at him, which he “didn’t appreciate.”Hyde said he “heard some stuff” when he was walking back to the dugout, which led to his reaction. He added Hjerstad was getting tested. “We’re hoping for the best,” he said. This has been brewing for quite a bit, though — the Yankees have hit Orioles batters 10 times this season, while the O’s have done so just three times. The Yankees, who own MLB’s worst record since June 13, held on to the much-needed 4-1 win, cutting their deficit for the division lead to just two games — the O’s are now 3-5 against the Yanks this season.Reigning Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole had his best start of this season as he tossed six strong innings of one-run, five-hit, seven-strikeout ball. The division race seems to be between these two teams for the rest of the season, and judging by Friday night, it’s going to be fun the rest of the way. They’ll be back in action at 4 p.m. on Saturday.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Bush and Jimmy Carter,” she said.Wallace added that there is “right now, no poll that shows [Biden] winning.”Hayes questioned Biden telling reporters on Thursday night he needed to be the one re-elected so he can “finish the job.” The MSNBC host said it reminded him of a “World Series star starter in the seventh game of the World Series, who’s got four outs left to get in a close game that’s thrown 120 pitches.””And when the manager comes out to the mound,” Hayes said, “They never want to go.”Maddow said that Biden’s insistence that he’s the man to be re-elected “is an argument” but “There are other arguments that are also data based that other people might have a better shot at it.”She then followed up to what Wallace said, theorizing that perhaps Biden isn’t being shown the polling that indicates he’s in danger of losing. She said that the president’s team might be giving him info “that may be sunnier than is real.””But him acknowledging it’s not only him who could beat Trump is an important sort of message from the reality-based world,” Maddow concluded.

Actress Ashley Judd calls for Biden to step aside, says Trump supporters in her family leave her ‘shaken’

Actress Ashley Judd calls for Biden to step aside, says Trump supporters in her family leave her ‘shaken’

Actress Ashley Judd joined a growing list of celebrities and high-profile Democrats who have called for President Biden to step aside, doing so by attacking former President Trump and her loved ones who plan to vote for him.High profile individuals from George Clooney to elected Democratic lawmakers have called for Biden to stand down as questions about his mental fitness for the job dominate the national conversation. Judd penned a USA Today opinion piece bluntly headlined, “I’m calling on Biden to step aside. Beating Trump is too important,” which featured harsh criticism of people in her family who support the former president. “I love these Trump folks as if my life depended on it, and at times, it literally has. I do not love the beliefs they believe and cling to… as I listened to one of my dearest people share some of those beliefs and thoughts, it hurt. I was shaken. My body felt like it was on fire,” Judd wrote.”The words activated in me profound alarm in the aftermath of the recent debate at which President Joe Biden, a deeply decent man, was incapable of countering Trump, while he, unchecked, gushed a firehose of galling lies,” she continued. “And so, I now ask President Joe Biden to step aside.”OBAMA WAS AWARE OF CLOONEY’S BRUTAL NY TIMES ESSAY AHEAD OF TIME, DIDN’T OBJECT: REPORTJudd wrote that she realized she needed to speak out after one of her “closest people” informed mall security guards that a group of Black kids were “up to no good” and sitting on the hoods of cars in the parking lot, which she saw as an act of racism that Trump has normalized. She wrote, “I do not necessarily think all Trump supporters believe, feel, act and speak like this,” but she believes Trump himself does. “The defense of our cherished rights and freedoms, the moral imperative that we do better by more people, and our bodies, cannot be left to voters who see and are frightened of the consequences of President Biden’s obvious limitations, or who are now not going to vote. We take the risk of an off night and minimize the warning signs at our gravest peril,” she wrote. “You may judge me or be baffled by how and why I can continue to live with and love people who feel and act upon the same harmful beliefs that Trump espouses. And, of course, I wholly realize they feel my beliefs and positions are equally odious,” Judd continued. “I am humbled and grateful they neither exile me from our family nor allow our significant differences to taint their love for me.”‘OBAMA BRO’ CONFIRMS CLAIMS IN CLOONEY’S DAMAGING OP-ED ON BIDEN’S MENTAL FITNESSShe said pro-Trump rhetoric uttered by her family on Wednesday night pushed her over the edge. The “Kiss the Girls” actress said it’s not a “deal breaker” if her relatives support Trump, although she has tried to change them. “I tried that, failed at that, damaged our relationships by trying that, and I have had enough loss in my life. I neither want to nor will I lose any more of my folks, especially over politics. My deal breakers with Donald Trump are many, but after listening Wednesday night in that living room, what is searing me is the cruelty. It cannot be America’s future,” Judd wrote. Judd declared that we “can’t risk a Trump presidency,” claiming he would “would wield the power of the presidency with unprecedented, incalculable cruelty and unfairness.” “Especially disturbing is his distortion of Christianity, the force of Christian Nationalism advancing him, and the risks for anyone who diverges from that,” she wrote. “This is not something I wrote easily, quickly or for political convenience,” Judd added. “My belief in what President Biden has done for our country runs deep. My hopes for the next term run high.” The actress boasted about her involvement with political activism and said she lost “a life-altering paycheck” for speaking out against Trump. ‘OBAMA BROS’ GANG UP ON BIDEN AS LONGSTANDING RUMORS OF TENSION LINGER: ‘HARD TO WATCH’”And writing this essay will cost me. Some, perhaps many, people will scorn me (and worse). Their outrage at me is insignificant compared to the harm that is assured under a second Trump term for, say, our LGBTQ+ families,” Judd wrote. “With Donald Trump in leadership, speech is chilled. Dissent is punished. Sharing your truth about your life in America can risk your livelihood. When a man raped me in 1998, I was able to have a safe, legal abortion that was accessible right where I live in Tennessee,” she continued. “We already know many states ban abortions and 10 states have no exceptions for rape and incest, even for adolescent girls. This is reality for girls and women under Donald Trump and it must be the principle on which President Biden chooses to voluntarily, gracefully step aside.”Judd added that voters deserve a “real choice on the Democratic ticket,” and urged the party to support another nominee. “Here, where I sit in rural Tennessee, it is clear that Americans have already made up their minds against President Biden, on top of the majority who love to vote for Donald Trump,” she wrote. “My folks are not bad people, despite what you may now think of them. They are facing bad options,” Judd wrote. “We must give them a different choice from our Democratic Party for president of the United States.”Fox News Digital reached out to the Biden and Trump campaigns for comment but did immediately receive a response.

CNN Dem focus group gives Biden positive reviews after press conference: ‘I think he should stay in’

CNN Dem focus group gives Biden positive reviews after press conference: 'I think he should stay in'

A CNN focus group of battleground state Democratic voters offered positive reviews of President Biden following his solo press conference Thursday.CNN’s Gary Tuchman spoke with a group of seven women at a senior leisure center in Kalamazoo, Michigan, describing them as “liking” Biden and non-Trump voters. When asked, five of them thought the press conference went “better than expected” while two thought it was what they expected. None thought he did worse than expected.  One woman who was “undecided” about whether Biden should stay in the race told Tuchman she was “relieved” by Biden’s performance.”I think he should stay in,” she said, shifting her position.”I think he’s the logical choice,” said a second woman, who was also “undecided” about Biden staying in the race, but threw her support behind Biden.BIDEN’S HIGH-STAKES SOLO PRESS CONFERENCE SLAMMED FROM THE RIGHT AS ‘ANOTHER DISASTER’A third voter, who before the press conference thought Biden should “pass the torch,” still felt that way after, telling Tuchman, “I think he conveyed more defensiveness versus confidence. And I think we are craving to be able to be confident about the candidate that we carry into the November election.”A fourth voter said “all [her] confidence” in Biden has held steady, saying “everybody has a bad day and I could see that he was sick,” admitting following through with the debate might have been a “bad choice.””At the heart of it, he’s a strong guy,” the voter told Tuchman. BIDEN STAGES HOUR-LONG PRESS CONFERENCE, TAKES MULTIPLE QUESTIONS IN BID TO ALLAY FEARS OVER MENTAL DECLINEA fifth voter agreed with that sentiment, adding, “Joe Biden is very caring about people. He’s very knowledgeable and experienced. And he’s not just out for himself, that he really cares about the country.””There’s no chance that you would be more confident with Kamala Harris or your governor here Whitmer in the state of Michigan?” Tuchman asked.”Right. Yeah,” the voter responded. “I think Joe Biden did an excellent job… I’ve always been confident.”NBC’S CHUCK TODD SAYS BIDEN’S ‘ENTIRE NARRATIVE’ WILL ERODE IF HE STAYS IN THE RACE: ‘HIS AMBITION COMES FIRST’There were several moments in the presser when Biden raised eyebrows, including when he referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump” and said, “I’m following the advice of my commander-in-chief,” when he meant to say the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Shortly before the press conference, he mistakenly called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “President Putin.”The press conference came as turmoil continues within the Democratic Party over whether Biden should keep running or step aside following his disastrous debate performance last month.

House Democrat suggests Biden should resign, says presidency ‘must come to an end’

House Democrat suggests Biden should resign, says presidency 'must come to an end'

A moderate House Democrat said President Biden’s White House tenure must “come to an end” on Thursday, the most significant voicing of opposition to his leadership from a member of his own party so far.Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash., previously said she believed Biden would lose to Trump, but now she is the 15th congressional Democrat to call on the president to end his re-election bid.”I’ve spent the past two weeks listening to my constituents express their concerns about the President’s age and health,” she said in a statement to local outlet KGW, an NBC affiliate.”Americans deserve to feel their president is fit enough to do the job. The crisis of confidence in the President’s leadership needs to come to an end. The President should do what he knows is right for the country and put the national interest first.”BATTLEGROUND DEMS TESTER, KAINE TO SKIP BIDEN CAMPAIGN MEETING AS 2024 FEARS GROWGluesenkamp Perez is one of the most vulnerable Democrats of this election cycle and has frequently broken from her own party on votes.Biden, meanwhile, is fighting for his political life in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against former President Trump late last month.Biden spoke with a hoarse voice, which he attributed to a cold, and stumbled over his answers several times during the primetime event. Viewers also observed him appearing tired and noticeably less sharp than he looked the last time he faced Trump in 2020.DAVE PORTNOY MOCKS GEORGE CLOONEY FOR WAITING 3 WEEKS AFTER FUNDRAISER TO ACKNOWLEDGE BIDEN IS A ‘VEGETABLE’It spurred concerns among members of his party that he would lose to Trump in November and may not be fit to serve another four years.Gluesenkamp Perez told KATU after the debate, “About 50 million Americans tuned in and watched that debate. I was one of them for about five very painful minutes. We all saw what we saw, you can’t undo that, and the truth, I think, is that Biden is going to lose to Trump.”Biden, for his part, has maintained several times that he is not budging. Gluesenkamp Perez’s statement comes just a few hours before Biden’s 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time press conference. It’s a pivotal event for the president as he seeks to fight back doubts that he’s not physically or mentally fit for the White House.House Democrats left Capitol Hill around noon on Thursday to return to their districts for a week-long break. Before that, left-wing lawmakers spent the week huddled as both a caucus and in smaller groups to discuss the path forward for Biden. BIDEN’S CANDIDACY REMAINS UNDER THREAT AS TOP DEMOCRATIC DONORS GET COLD FEETCLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPHouse Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., who has said he is behind the presidential ticket, told reporters earlier Thursday that he did not believe Biden was a drag on vulnerable Democrats.”House Democrats are engaged in conversations with House Democrats at this moment in time. Those conversations have been candid, clear eyed and comprehensive, and that’s important for us to do as a House Democratic caucus family. And as long as those conversations are ongoing, I’m going to respect the sanctity of those conversations until we conclude that process,” he said.
