Democratic analysts sound alarm on more ‘grim’ Biden polling showing diminishing support in key voter groups

Democratic analysts sound alarm on more 'grim' Biden polling showing diminishing support in key voter groups

Several political experts and pollsters issued dire warnings for President Biden as several polls show him losing to Donald Trump in key areas, as one Democratic pollster said a November survey of voters showed “grim” results. Thomas Edsall, a New York Times opinion columnist, spoke to several pollsters, analysts and more about a poll conducted by Democracy Corps, a Democratic advisory group founded by James Carville and Stan Greenberg. The group conducted a survey of 2,500 voters between Nov. 5 and Nov. 11. Greenberg, according to Edsall, summarized the results in an email and wrote, “this is grim.” In the Democratic voter base, “Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, LGBTQ+ community, Gen Z, millennials, unmarried and college women give Trump higher approval ratings than Biden,” Greenberg told the Times columnist. BIDEN FACES A BIGGER POLLING DEFICIT NOW THAT OBAMA DID A YEAR BEFORE THE 2012 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION The survey found that Biden and the Democrats only lead by two points on “the president will not be an autocrat,” and only lead by one on “protecting democracy.” “There was a tie on making democracy more secure,” Edsall wrote. “Particularly worrisome for Democrats, who plan to demonize Trump as a threat to democracy, are the advantages Trump and Republicans have on opposing extremism (3 points), getting beyond the chaos (6 points) and protecting the Constitution (8 points).” Other analysts and political scientists told Edsall that it was not looking good for the president. Jim Kessler, a senior vice president at the left-leaning think tank Third Way, told Edsall that there were clear danger signs, despite the falling price of gasoline and decreasing inflation rates.  AMERICANS OVERWHELMINGLY OPPOSE BIDEN’S HANDLING OF THE ECONOMY, POLL FINDS “Biden won in 2020 because he was perceived as having a more positive brand than the Democratic Party,” Kessler said. “That brand advantage over the Democratic Party is now gone. Exhibits A and B are crime and immigration.” Kessler said voters hear “nothing” from the president on either issue because it splits the Democratic base. “But if you are silent on these issues, it is like an admission of guilt to voters. They believe you do not care or are dismissive of their very real concerns. That means Biden must accept some griping from the left to get this story out to the vast middle,” he continued. A political scientist at Harvard, Ryan Enos, told Edsall that Biden would “likely lose” if the election were held today.  Another political scientist, Rogers Smith, said Biden’s “visible infirmities interfere with his ability to reassure the electorate,” Edsall wrote.  “This belief is reinforced by the reality that Biden does not inspire confidence in his vigor or energy in most of his public presentations. The problem is particularly acute among young voters but goes throughout the electorate, Democrats and Republicans alike. It means that voters don’t give much weight to Biden’s arguments on the issues,” he said.  However, Smith said, Democrats were “trapped.” “None will challenge Biden; he must choose to step aside. If he did so, he would feel compelled to support Kamala Harris. But most Democrats, and probably Biden himself, rightly believe that she would do even worse than he is doing,” he added.

Sweden signs defense pact granting US access to all Scandinavian military bases

Pal Johnson speaks

On the brink of joining NATO, Sweden has signed a defense cooperation agreement with Washington that will allow the United States access to all of the military bases across the Scandinavian country, saying the deal would bolster regional security. Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson said the deal, signed in Washington Tuesday, “will create better conditions for Sweden to be able to receive support from the United States in the event of a war or crisis.” TURKEY TO ADVANCE SWEDEN NATO BID SAYS STOLTENBERG Jonson told Swedish broadcaster SVT that it didn’t mean that “all 17 locations will be used” but “where it is most important from a military perspective for them to be able to store defense equipment, for example.” The deal was signed at the Pentagon by Jonson and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin who said that by adding the capabilities of the Swedish armed forces to NATO, “we will get even stronger.” SWEDEN BECOMES ‘LEGITIMATE TARGET’ BY JOINING NATO, RUSSIAN ENVOY SAYS The deal “sends a strong signal that we remain committed to addressing security challenges together,” Austin said. Sweden’s strategically important Baltic Sea island of Gotland sits a little more than 186 miles from the Russian Baltic Sea exclave of Kaliningrad. The United States struck a similar deal with Sweden’s western neighbor, NATO member Norway, in 2021 and is currently negotiating such an agreement with NATO members Finland and Denmark, two other Nordic countries. Sweden and its neighbor Finland decided to drop their long-standing policy of non-alignment and apply for NATO membership following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year. Finland joined NATO in April. New members must be approved by all existing members of the alliance. Turkey and Hungary are the only NATO countries that have not formally approved Sweden’s accession bid. TURKISH PRESIDENT ERDOGAN DELAYS RATIFICATION OF SWEDEN’S NATO MEMBERSHIP, DEMANDS FULFILLMENT OF OBLIGATIONS Turkey has delayed ratification for more than a year, accusing Sweden of not taking Turkey’s security concerns seriously enough, including its fight against Kurdish militants and other groups that Ankara considers to be security threats. In comments published Wednesday by state-run Anadolu Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan linked the ratification of Sweden’s NATO membership to the approval by the U.S. Congress of Turkey’s request to purchase 40 F-16 fighter jets and kits to modernize its existing fleet. The request has been backed by the White House but run into opposition in Congress. “I fulfilled my duty, but I also expect something from you,” Erdogan told a group of journalists, on his way back from Qatar where he attended the 44th Gulf Cooperation Council Council summit. “You (the United States) should pass the (F-16s) issue simultaneously in your Congress.” Last week, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said he told Turkey’s president that “the time has come” to let Sweden become a member of the military alliance.

‘Home Improvement’ star Jonathan Taylor Thomas seen publicly for first time in years: Where the cast is today

'Home Improvement' star Jonathan Taylor Thomas seen publicly for first time in years: Where the cast is today

In the early 90s, Jonathan Taylor Thomas was a popular child star, starring in movies like “The Lion King,” “Tom and Huck” and “Man of the House” and the sitcom “Home Improvement.” Although Thomas did several projects as a child, he slowed down in the 2000s, taking a handful of small roles. His last acting credit was in fellow “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen’s show, “Last Man Standing.” He appeared in four episodes from 2013 to 2015. Last week, the actor was photographed near his home in California, his first public sighting in two years.  Fox News Digital takes a look at where the “Home Improvement” cast is now. ‘HOME IMPROVEMENT’ STARS TIM ALLEN, RICHARD KARN REUNITE FOR NEW COMPETITION SERIES ‘ASSEMBLY REQUIRED’ Thomas played the middle child of Tim and Jill Taylor, played by Allen and Patricia Richardson. His performance was well received, leading to more roles. He notably voiced young Simba in the 1994 Disney smash hit, “The Lion King.” He stayed with “Home Improvement” from its premiere in 1991 until 1998. He left early in the eighth and final season with his character moving to Costa Rica in the second episode. In real life, Thomas wanted to focus on his education. “I’d been going nonstop since I was 8 years old,” he explained to People in 2013. “I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break.” Thomas dipped his toe back into entertainment on his TV dad Tim Allen’s series “Last Man Standing,” appearing in four episodes and directing three between 2013 and 2015. TIM ALLEN ADDRESSES THE CURRENT STATE OF COMEDY: ‘WE’RE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT HERE’ Tim Allen starred as Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, the host of a home improvement show, based on some of his stand-up act.  The highly rated sitcom made him a star and led to roles in “The Santa Clause” as Scott Calvin (aka Santa Claus) and “Toy Story” as the voice of Buzz Lightyear. Both films spawned numerous sequels, featuring Allen reprising his beloved roles. After “Home Improvement” ended in 1999, Allen continued acting in film and television, including films “Galaxy Quest,” “The Shaggy Dog” and “Wild Hogs.” He played a family man again in the comedy “Last Man Standing” from 2011 to 2016 on ABC, and from 2018 to the show’s end in 2021, when it was picked up by FOX.  Allen has most recently starred in the Disney+ series “The Santa Clauses.” now in its second season. It earned him his second Emmy nomination. His first nomination was for “Home Improvement.” ‘FRASIER’ STAR KELSEY GRAMMER SAYS TIM ALLEN, ROSEANNE BARR INSPIRED HIM TO REVIVE SITCOM Patricia Richardson played Tim Taylor’s wife Jill for all eight seasons of “Home Improvement,” after beginning her career in Broadway and off-Broadway productions and a series of short-lived sitcoms. Richardson left the show following the eighth season to spend more time with her three children. At the time, the producers and Allen urged her to stay on for a ninth season, but she refused. Allen rejected a proposal to continue the show without her character, who would have been killed off.  After leaving “Home Improvement,” Richardson starred as Dr. Andy Campbell in the Lifetime medical drama “Strong Medicine,” from 2002 to 2005, and landed a recurring role in the last two seasons of “The West Wing.” Richardson has also appeared on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “NCIS,” “Blindspot,” “The Blacklist” and “Grey’s Anatomy” and reunited with Allen on his series “Last Man Standing” during the fourth season. In November 2022, Richardson spoke with Fox News Digital about her time on the show, including sharing some of the fan mail she received.  “The primary thing I saw the most in the mail was, ‘Are you looking through our windows? The things you and Tim fight about are just like our family,’” she recalled. PATRICIA RICHARDSON SAYS CHEMISTRY WITH TIM ALLEN MADE HER TAKE THE PART ON ‘HOME IMPROVEMENT’  Zachary Ty Bryan played Brad, the oldest son of Tim and Jill Taylor, on “Home Improvement” for the series’ entire run. After the series ended, he appeared in a variety of television series, including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Veronica Mars,” and “Burn Notice” and films like “The Rage: Carrie 2,” “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and, most recently, “The Guardians of Justice.” Bryan has faced legal trouble, beginning in 2020 when he was arrested and entered a guilty plea after an altercation with girlfriend Johnnie Faye Cartwright at their apartment in Eugene, Oregon. In June 2023, Bryan downplayed the incident, telling The Hollywood Reporter it had been “blown out of proportion.”  “We didn’t even really get that physical,” he said. “We got really loud. We were screaming, and because we were in a town home that had [thin walls], everybody could hear.” In October, Bryan pleaded guilty to felony assault after being arrested in July after authorities were called regarding a physical domestic dispute with an unnamed woman, Fox News Digital confirmed at the time. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER Taran Noah Smith played Mark Taylor, the youngest of the Taylor children, on “Home Improvement” all eight seasons. During his time on the show, he also appeared on “7th Heaven” and “Batman Beyond.” When “Home Improvement” ended, Smith stopped acting entirely.  “It was pretty exciting to leave it behind and do other things,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2011. Smith pursued a variety of professions following the show. He created a food company for vegans, became an installation artist for events like Coachella and built energy-efficient water purifiers with his dad that are used overseas by the military. At 17, he married Heidi van Pelt, sparking controversy due to van Pelt being 16 years older. They divorced in 2007. Smith was also embroiled in a legal battle with his parents when he was 17, suing them for control of his $1.5 million trust fund, claiming they had squandered the money. According to an interview with Headline and Global News in 2016, Smith and his mother became estranged but eventually reconciled.  He also faced legal trouble in 2012 when he was reported to have been arrested for an alleged DUI and possession of hashish. LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS Richard Karn played Tim Taylor’s co-host and friend Al Borland on “Home Improvement” who was famous for his catchphrase, “I don’t think so, Tim.” After the series, Karn took over “Family Feud” hosting duties for four years, from 2002 to 2006, and later hosted Game Show Network’s show “Bingo America.” He also made dozens of appearances in series like “That 70s Show” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” and had a recurring role on Hulu’s “PEN15.” Karn and Allen reunited for two episodes of “Last Man Standing” in 2013 and co-hosted two different series on The History Channel, “Assembly Required,” a competition series in 2020, and the docuseries “More Power” in 2022. Earl Hindman played Tim Taylor’s next-door neighbor Wilson, who’s face remained obscured by their shared fence as he dispensed advice to the often frazzled Tim. Prior to his work on the series, he had appeared in films like “The Parallax View,” “Taps” and “Three Men and a Baby” and series like “Ryan’s Hope.” Following the end of “Home Improvement” in 1999, Hindman appeared in episodes of “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” before his death in 2003 from lung cancer at age 61. Debbe Dunning played Heidi, the “Tool Time girl,” on the show hosted by Tim Taylor on “Home Improvement” from the show’s third season until the series ended in 1999. Dunning later appeared in projects like “The Misery Brothers” and “Now You Know.” In 2017, she hosted a travel show, “Debbe Dunning’s Dude Ranch Round-Up,” on DirecTV’s The Cowboy Channel.  The California native married volleyball pro Steve Timmons in 1997. They divorced in 2018 and share three children.

Harvard Jewish organization blasts Ivy League president for ‘disappointing’ testimony on antisemitism

Harvard Jewish organization blasts Ivy League president for 'disappointing' testimony on antisemitism

After Harvard President Claudine Gay would not say that the calls for the genocide of Jews was a breach of the Ivy League university’s code of conduct, the local campus Jewish organization called on the president to “take action” to protect Jewish students. When responding to Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-NY, questions on Harvard’s rules for bullying and harassment, President Gay said that speech that qualifies as harassment “depends on the context.” The Jewish student organization, Harvard Hillel, said that President Gay’s “refusal” to “draw a line” on threatening antisemitic speech is “profoundly shocking.” “President Gay’s refusal to draw a line around threatening antisemitic speech as a violation of Harvard’s policies is profoundly shocking given explicit provisions within the conduct code prohibiting this kind of bullying and harassment,” the Harvard Hillel said in a statement posted on social media. STEFANIK GRILLS HARVARD PRESIDENT OVER STUDENTS CALLING FOR ‘INTIFADA,’ RAMPANT ANTISEMITISM ON CAMPUS The organization said that they are appalled by the president’s lack of action and questioned the president’s “ability to protect Jewish students on Harvard’s campus.” “We are appalled by the need to state the obvious: A call for genocide against Jews is always a hateful incitement of violence. President Gay’s failure to properly condemn this speech calls into question her ability to protect Jewish students on Harvard’s campus,” the Harvard Hillel said. “Chants to “globalize the intifada,” an endorsement of violent terrorist attacks against Jewish and Israeli civilians, and “from the river to the sea,” an eliminationist slogan intended to deprive Jews of their right to self-determination in Israel, have become tragically routine at Harvard.” “President Gay’s testimony fails to reassure us that the University is seriously concerned about the antisemitic rhetoric pervasive on campus. We call on President Gay to take action against those using threatening speech that violates our community standards,” the Harvard Hillel said. HARVARD, MIT AND UPENN PRESIDENTS PRESSED ON ‘RACE-BASED IDEOLOGY OF THE RADICAL LEFT’ AT ANTISEMITISM HEARING Harvard Hillel President Jacob Miller said that the president’s testimony was “utterly disappointing,” and that tackling antisemitism will take “head-on resolve” not “weak equivocation.” HARVARD WHISTLEBLOWER POINTS TO ‘UNDISGUISED CALLS FOR THE MURDER OF JEWS’ AFTER LAUNCH OF FEDERAL PROBE “President Gay’s testimony today was stunning and utterly disappointing,” Miller wrote in an X post. “Tackling campus antisemitism will take head-on resolve, not the weak equivocation that was on display today.” Gay, who testified in Congress on Tuesday, December 5 alongside MIT President Sally Kornbluth and University of Pennsylvania President Elizabeth Magill, previously denounced Hamas’ terrorist attack against Israel on October 7. Following criticism from pro-Palestinian student groups, Gay released a video message two days later saying that though the university does not “punish or sanction” people for expressing polarizing views, it does not mean that it endorses them.

Florida teacher elbows student during basketball game, knocking out his tooth in alleged fit of anger: police

Florida teacher elbows student during basketball game, knocking out his tooth in alleged fit of anger: police

A Florida teacher has been charged with child abuse and battery after elbowing a student, knocking out a tooth, while playing basketball and throwing the ball at the boy during a game, police said.  James Bellamy was taken into custody Monday and allegedly admitted to the incident, the Palatka Police Department said.  Officers were initially called to a home and told by the 12-year-old boy’s mother that he’d been struck by a teacher at his school, Putnam Academy of Arts and Sciences in Palatka. DESANTIS PHOTO DISPLAYED IN BAR DAMAGED AFTER SUSPECT TOOK IT INTO RESTROOM She said she was shown a video of Bellamy and the boy playing basketball. Footage of the incident shows Bellamy throw a ball at the boy and later elbows him in the mouth, resulting in one of the child’s teeth being knocked out, police said.  The child confirmed what happened to the officers, authorities said. He said Bellamy had gotten angry at him because the teacher believed the boy intentionally struck his arm or head while they were playing.  “The child told Officers Bellamy called him back out onto the court and then threw the ball at him, but he was able to duck and not get hit by it,” a police statement said. “The child said he and Bellamy then started playing and then Bellamy struck him in the face with his elbow which knocked his tooth out.” The officers visited Bellamy, who confirmed what had happened. He said the boy hit him and that he called him back onto the basketball court. He said he threw the ball at the child, but it was not intentional.  Bellamy is being held in the local jail on no bail.  Putnam Academy of Arts and Sciences did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Giants sticking with local legend Tommy DeVito at quarterback despite Tyrod Taylor’s return

Giants sticking with local legend Tommy DeVito at quarterback despite Tyrod Taylor's return

The New York Giants won’t be straying away from the local legend that has become Tommy DeVito at quarterback despite seeing their original backup healthy again.  Tyrod Taylor, who was dealing with a rib injury he suffered in Week 8 against the New York Jets, was designated for return off the injured reserve this week. With his practice window open, it’s expected that Taylor could suit up for the Giants on Monday night against the Green Bay Packers.  However, head coach Brian Daboll is riding with DeVito, the New Jersey native who fans have gravitated toward since Taylor and Daniel Jones went out with injury.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM “Tommy’s done a good job, he’s improved each of the games he’s played,” Daboll told reporters. “Thought he’s played well the last two games, made good decisions, was accurate with the football, earned the right to play.” Daboll’s statement on DeVito, and deciding to announce the starting quarterback role this early in the week, proves that this is DeVito’s job to lose for the remainder of the season.  FRO OUTKICK: JA’MARR CHASE SAYS HE WANTED TO BE AN ‘EVIL PERSON’ AGAINST JAGUARS, BACKED IT UP WITH MONSTER GAME The Syracuse product, who played his high school football not far from MetLife Stadium at Don Bosco Prep, has done well since taking over the starting role from Taylor.  Though the Giants were dominated by the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 12 in his first start, DeVito has helped the Giants win back-to-back games, including their Week 12 matchup against the New England Patriots. DeVito was efficient, going 17-of-25 through the air with a touchdown to Isaiah Hodgins.  His best game, though, came on the road against the Washington Commanders, where DeVito threw for 246 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.  Through five games this season (three starts), DeVito has thrown for seven touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has a 62.9% completion rate and a 92.4 quarterback rating, per Pro Football Reference.  DeVito has enjoyed his time in the spotlight, and his family has as well. Fans love that he’s a family man, being proud of his Italian heritage and the fact that he still lives at home in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, with his parents.  It resonates with a lot of Giants fans who are in similar situations, albeit the fact that DeVito quarterbacks their favorite team.  But Daboll is only focused on what DeVito is doing on the field, and lately, that’s been winning football.  The Giants are still in the playoff hunt, though they’ll need many more wins with a 4-8 record to gain a wild card berth as they did last season. It starts with the Packers, who are 6-6 and jumped into that final spot in the NFC after upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

Alzheimer’s blood test could hit the market in early 2024, researchers say

Alzheimer’s blood test could hit the market in early 2024, researchers say

Could a simple blood test detect Alzheimer’s disease years before symptoms appear? New research from Resonant, a Utah biotech company that develops diagnostic tests for neurodegenerative diseases, suggests it may be possible. Researchers said its new test achieved 100% accuracy in identifying patients with Alzheimer’s disease and individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who went on to develop Alzheimer’s disease within five years. THE 8 BIGGEST ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE MYTHS — AND THE TRUTHS BEHIND THEM In the study, a total of 50 blood plasma samples were tested. These included 25 older control individuals, 13 patients who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, six patients with mild cognitive impairment who later developed Alzheimer’s, and six MCI patients who did not develop Alzheimer’s.  The findings were published in Frontiers in Neurology on Oct. 31. The blood test works by detecting the presence of DNA released from the brain’s neurons, or nerve cells, when they die, according to lead researcher Chad Pollard, a doctorate student and research assistant at Brigham Young University. “All cells, to some degree, release fragments of DNA called cell-free DNA (cfDNA) into their environment,” Pollard, who is also a co-founder of Resonant, told Fox News Digital in an email. COLORADO WOMAN WITH ALZHEIMER’S IS STILL VIBRANT AFTER MORE THAN 4 YEARS: ‘I REFUSE TO SURRENDER’ “Under normal, healthy conditions, cfDNA from neurons is undetectable in blood circulation, but during neurodegeneration, the amount of cfDNA that is released from these cells significantly increases and can be detected in the blood.” The presence of neuron cfDNA in the blood indicates neurodegeneration, Pollard added. Beyond Alzheimer’s disease, the researchers are also actively working to apply this technology to other neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also called Lou Gehrig’s disease), noted Pollard.  Pollard pointed out one limitation of the study. “While the majority of patients with mild cognitive impairment who did not develop Alzheimer’s disease within five years displayed low levels of neuron cfDNA in the blood, some displayed elevated levels,” he said. EATING ONE POPULAR FRUIT COULD HELP REDUCE YOUR CHANCES OF DEVELOPING DEMENTIA, STUDY FINDS “Due to limitations of the dataset, the researchers were not able to obtain more information about these patients to determine whether this minority remained cognitively stable or eventually developed Alzheimer’s disease.” The team is actively working to improve the specificity and predictive power of the test, Pollard said. Joseph Antoun, M.D., PhD, a longevity expert and CEO of the nutrition tech company Prolon in Los Angeles, was not involved in the study but offered his input on the findings. “Though the sample size for the study is relatively low, with only 50 participants, this method of measuring DNA methylation shows interesting potential,” Antoun told Fox News Digital. “I would love to see it performed at a larger scale, with a bigger population size, and with other neurodegenerative disorders,” he said. OVARIAN CANCER COULD BE DETECTED EARLY WITH A NEW BLOOD TEST, STUDY FINDS In future studies, Antoun said he would recommend ensuring that the results aren’t being polluted by a different preexisting condition, as Alzheimer’s patients tend to have other comorbidities such as dementia, depression, obesity and cardiovascular disease.  “Additionally, I would also be curious to look at the cost of a blood test like this, particularly one that promises such exciting developments in the medical field,” he said. “Overall, I’m interested to see more expansive, specific research to further support this data.” Resonant expects to launch its Alzheimer’s test in the first quarter of 2024.  There are a few blood tests that are currently available to health care providers to help with diagnosis, but they are not yet approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to the Alzheimer’s Association. “At this time, it is recommended that blood tests only be used by specialty care doctors who are seeing patients with memory complaints,” states the association on its website. “They are not recommended for individuals who do not have any cognitive or memory symptoms.” CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER More than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, which is the most common form of dementia, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. That number is projected to reach nearly 13 million by 2050. Diagnosis has traditionally occurred after symptoms of cognitive decline appear — but identifying the disease sooner could enable patients to access preventive drugs and dramatically slow progression, according to Resonant researchers. “These data demonstrate significant potential for this technology’s use as a clinically actionable predictor of neurodegeneration, which could allow for pre-symptomatic interventions,” said Timothy Jenkins, PhD, co-founder of Resonant, in a press release.  “We believe that such early identification is the key to improving outcomes for patients with neurodegenerative disease.” People can view the company’s peer-reviewed research or join the waitlist for the test at its website, www.resonantdx.com. Rookie Jake Browning leads Bengals to overtime upset against Jaguars on the road

Rookie Jake Browning leads Bengals to overtime upset against Jaguars on the road

Jake Browning and the Cincinnati Bengals shocked the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, defeating them in overtime, 34-31, to remain in the AFC playoff picture.  The Bengals move to 6-6 on the year, while the Jaguars fall to 8-4, though they still own the AFC South lead. There’s no dancing around it: The Jaguars’ loss was made much worse after star quarterback Trevor Lawrence left the game with an ankle injury. It came with 5 minutes and 43 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Jaguars left tackle Walker Little accidentally stepped on Lawrence’s right ankle, causing him to immediately hit the ground. His ankle appeared to roll up even more as he fell. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Lawrence needed help from two trainers to walk off the field and get to the locker room while the entire Jacksonville crowd sat silent.  Because of that, C.J. Beathard had to take over at quarterback, and he got the necessary yards on his first drive under center, going 53 yards on nine plays to set up a Brandon McManus field goal that tied the game at 31 apiece with 26 seconds left in the game, forcing overtime. FROM OUTKICK: MIKE TOMLIN CLEARLY TIRED OF TALKING ABOUT STEELERS WR DIONTAE JOHNSON However, when the Jaguars received the ball to begin extra time, Beathard couldn’t deliver a game-winning touchdown.  He did come close to setting Jacksonville up close to the goal line, finding Calvin Ridley 43 yards downfield, which would’ve put them at the two-yard line. However, a holding penalty brought the play back and the Jags ended up punting. Browning, on the other hand, did exactly what the Bengals needed in crunch time.  He found Ja’Marr Chase on multiple occasions for the game-winning drive as the star receiver had himself a game down in Florida. He finished with 149 yards on 11 catches with a 76-yard touchdown catch to help the Bengals put up a surprising amount of points. It was then up to Evan McPherson to kick a game-winning field goal from 48 yards out for the Bengals, and he put it right down the middle for the upset. While McPherson missed a 57-yarder earlier in the game, McManus also missed a 48-yard field goal later, which is what ultimately forced overtime for both teams. Browning, in just his second NFL start, threw for 354 yards on 32-of-37 through the air in an extremely efficient game under center. Browning also relied on his running back Joe Mixon, who racked up two touchdowns and 68 yards on 19 carries, while hauling in six catches for 49 yards. Before he left the game, Lawrence was also solid, going 22-for-29 for 258 yards with two touchdowns and a rushing score for Jacksonville. He found tight end Evan Engram, the team’s leader in receptions, for his first touchdown of the season, as well as rookie Parker Washington, who made an unreal catch in the back of the end zone in the second half. Engram led the way with nine catches and 82 yards, while Zay Jones had 78 yards on five catches.  Another injury note came on the first offensive play of the game for the Jags, as Christian Kirk caught a 26-yard pass from Lawrence before leaving the game with a groin injury.

Deion Sanders, who starred at Florida State in college, won’t fret about CFP snub: ‘I can’t be upset’

Deion Sanders, who starred at Florida State in college, won't fret about CFP snub: 'I can’t be upset'

Deion Sanders isn’t among the ex-Florida State players who are angered by the College Football Playoff selection committee’s decision to leave the Seminoles out of the top four despite an unbeaten record this season.  Outrage is just one of the words to describe Florida State fans after their perfect 13-0 record and ACC Championship title wasn’t good enough in the selection committee’s eyes to hold a spot in the top four. The teams that did — No. 1 Michigan, No. 2 Washington, No. 3 Texas and No. 4 Alabama — will all have a chance to compete for the national title.  Meanwhile, No. 5 Florida State will take on No. 6 Georgia, who lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game for its first loss of the year, in the Orange Bowl as part of the annual New Year’s Six games.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Sanders, who became a star with the Seminoles under Bobby Bowden, made his case on the “Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” on why he isn’t surprised by the committee’s decision.  “Well, I can’t be upset. We’re recruiting against those guys. You gotta understand that. This is business now,” Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, said.  FROM OUTKICK: FANS BELIEVE ESPN, COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF COMMITTEE COLLUDED TO INCLUDE SEC TEAM “A lot of people don’t look at it as business. I look at it as, this is entertainment, but this is business. So [there’s] no way you’re gonna leave Coach [Nick] Saban and Alabama out of a playoff.” Sanders took it a step further, too.  He believes that Georgia, the back-to-back national champions, should be the ones complaining about the committee’s decision.  “Who should be really upset, not only Florida State but [Georgia head coach] Kirby Smart. He’s been No. 1 for the last two or three years, and they’re out?” Sanders said. “This is unbelievable. I want those problems! Give me those problems!” Sanders has to think about his own program, as they make the move to the Big 12 for the 2024-25 season. After a hot start that began with taking down the runner-up in the CFP last year, TCU, to begin the season, the Buffaloes hit a wall that ended with a 4-8 overall record.  It was dead last in the Pac-12, as the Buffaloes went 1-8 in the conference after previously being ranked in the Top 25 earlier this year. Sanders looked on as his squad lost their final six games.

Sylvester Stallone returns to Philadelphia and shares top frustration: ‘Not getting the opportunity to fail’

Sylvester Stallone returns to Philadelphia and shares top frustration: ‘Not getting the opportunity to fail’

Sylvester Stallone’s iconic character, Rocky Balboa, is still resonating with audiences 47 years after his debut in 1976, and now fans can gather in celebration of the beloved fictional boxer on a dedicated day. Dec. 3 marked the inaugural “Rocky Day” in Philadelphia, with festivities led by Stallone. “Life is a fight,” he said in a speech to the thousands gathered at the base of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Rocky famously and triumphantly runs up the steps while training in the film.  “It’s a tough fight and get ready,” he continued. “You’re going to win some and you’re gonna lose a lot. But the real victory is in never giving up and going the distance for yourself, your loved ones, and standing at the top of these steps you’re reminded that all things are possible.”  SYLVESTER STALLONE SHARES VIDEO OF HIS VISIT TO THE ROCKY BALBOA STATUE IN PHILADELPHIA WITH HIS FAMILY “Keep punching!” he concluded with cheers from the crowd. Speaking with Fox News Digital, Stallone explained why the character still connects with people nearly five decades later. “There are certain conundrums, issues, problems, journeys, challenges that everybody from every country, every culture has to face,” he said. “And they may be somewhat different, but they usually deal with the same kind of — I just want to achieve something, I want people to be proud of me, I want to raise a family, I want to support my daughter. It’s this kind of fear — or [thinking] I’m really nobody inside. People look at me but, on the inside, I feel weak and shallow, that’s what the character was.”  SYLVESTER STALLONE SAYS ABUSIVE FATHER HELPED OVERCOME EARLY HOLLYWOOD FAILURES: ‘NO STRANGER TO SERIOUS PAIN’ Stallone continued, “He even said, ‘I’m going to lose, I know I’m not good enough,’ and people may feel that way but at least they want to try. “I think the biggest frustration on the planet is people not getting the opportunity to fail. Forget win, they may win, but at least give me a shot. And that’s the biggest frustration I think that universally binds this whole underdog situation. I could talk to a billionaire and he thinks he’s an underdog. It’s just ingrained in the psyche of humans.” WATCH: SYLVESTER STALLONE EXPLAINS WHY ‘ROCKY’ RESONATES WITH AUDIENCES NEARLY 50 YEARS LATER Stallone wrote and starred in “Rocky”, launching his film career and earning him Oscar nominations for best original screenplay and best actor. The 77-year-old was reflective about his life and career at the ceremony, readily admitting to having “tons of regrets.” CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER “Usually it’s the kind of regrets that we all have, befriending people that didn’t like you as much, being involved with people you shouldn’t have been involved with, going left when you should have gone right, there’s tons of regrets,” he said. “Getting in fights, arguing with people that you should have been a little more gracious to, a little more compassionate with, [there are] tons of regrets.” But it wasn’t all somber, as he added with a laugh, “Choosing some movies, big time regrets!” WATCH: SYLVESTER STALLONE SHARES HE HAS ‘TONS OF REGRETS’ “Rocky” not only has a dedicated day, Dec. 3, but a dedicated “Sly Stallone Shop” inside the Parkway Visitor Center Outpost between the base of the steps and the Rocky statue, where visitors regularly recreate Rocky’s run to the top. Stallone’s wife, Jennifer Flavin, was on hand to celebrate with her husband, telling Fox News Digital, “I just love Philadelphia, I love the people here, they’re amazing.” LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS  “It’s overwhelming,” she added, getting slightly emotional. Chevy Chase, a long-time friend of Stallone’s was also at the event quipping to Fox News Digital that “the rain made me come!” (It was an unfortunately rainy day for the otherwise celebratory occasion.) Chase then added Stallone is “a good old friend,” and noted that his friend did the mural at the location, saying “It’s a big deal and Sly loves it and I love him.” The SNL star couldn’t resist one last joke when asked about the highlight of Stallone’s career, he teased, “We used to make love a lot.” SYLVESTER STALLONE’S CO-STAR DOLPH LUNDGREN REVEALS WHAT HE LEARNED FROM ‘ROCKY’ ACTOR The outpouring from fans in attendance was overwhelming and included a new, young generation growing up with the movies. One little boy, nine-year-old Ro Knight, went viral when he approached Stallone and performed almost word for word Rocky’s inspiring speech to his son from 2006’s “Rocky Balboa.” The speech includes powerful lines like, “But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward” and Stallone joined the little boy in enthusiastically reciting the words together, concluding with a big hug. WATCH: YOUNG FAN RECITES ‘ROCKY’ SPEECH WITH SYLVESTER STALLONE Future generations will continue to love “Rocky,” and when asked if there would be another film in the series, Stallone said, “I wish.” The rights to the “Rocky” series are currently held by Irwin Winkler, who produced the “Rocky” franchise and its sequel films in the “Creed” series.  In a 2019 interview with Variety, Stallone claimed he initially asked for ownership rights after the second and third movie, and felt it was owed to him since he created the story. However, he was told this usually isn’t done in Hollywood.  “When I finally confronted them [just before ‘Rocky IV’ in 1985], I said, ‘Does it bother you guys that I’ve written every word, I’ve choreographed it, I’ve been loyal to you, I’ve promoted it, directed it and I don’t have 1% that I could leave for my children?’ And the quote was, ‘You got paid.’ And that was the end of the conversation,” Stallone told Variety in 2019. In 2022, Stallone called Winkler out on Instagram, writing in a post, “After Irwin controlling ‘Rocky’ for over 47 years, and now ‘Creed’, I really would like to have at least a little [of] WHAT’S LEFT of my rights back, before passing it on to ONLY YOUR CHILDREN — I believe that would be a fair gesture from this 93-year-old gentleman?” Fox News Digital’s Lori Bashian contributed to this report.

Florida GOP Chairman Christian Ziegler claims innocence, will not resign over rape allegation

Florida GOP Chairman Christian Ziegler claims innocence, will not resign over rape allegation

Florida GOP Chairman Christian Ziegler says he will not resign over a woman’s allegation that he raped her, telling supporters in an email that he is innocent. Ziegler sent the statement to state Republicans on Saturday, saying that he and his wife, Bridget Ziegler, are being targeted because they are “such loud political voices,” according to The Associated Press.  “We have a country to save and I am not going to let false allegations of a crime put that mission on the bench as I wait for this process to wrap up,” wrote Ziegler, 40. A longtime GOP activist, Ziegler ascended to the state party’s top post in February. A complaint against Ziegler was filed with the Sarasota Police Department on Oct. 4, stating that the alleged sexual battery occurred inside a woman’s Sarasota home on Oct. 2.  DEMOCRATS CALL FOR RESIGNATION OF FLORIDA GOP CHAIRMAN CHRISTIAN ZIEGLER AMID SEXUAL BATTERY ALLEGATIONS The accuser reportedly “told him over Instagram messages that she was distraught and ‘terrified’ of him after their encounter and unable to work,” according to Politico.  However, Ziegler’s wife, who co-founded the conservative group Moms for Liberty which has led a campaign with Gov. Ron DeSantis dealing with education in Florida schools, told police that she, the victim and her husband had consensual sex together over a year before the alleged crime occurred, Politico states. According to text messages cited in the affidavit, the woman and the Zieglers had planned to again have group sex on Oct. 2, but the woman backed out after Bridget Ziegler “couldn’t make it.” FLORIDA TEACHER’S ASSISTANT ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY SLAPPING MIDDLE SCHOOLER INSIDE CLASSROOM The woman said she found Ziegler in her apartment’s hallway later that day and that he pushed her inside and then raped her. In text and phone conversations monitored by investigators, Ziegler offered the woman “financial help” before becoming suspicious that they were being recorded. In a Nov. 2 interview with detectives, Ziegler said the sex was consensual and that he had recorded it. He said he deleted the video, then recovered it after the rape allegation surfaced. DeSantis said last week that while Ziegler is innocent until proven guilty, he should resign to avoid becoming a distraction to their party. Ziegler’s attorney, Derek Byrd, previously released a statement to FOX 13 Tampa Bay acknowledging the reports of the investigation, saying that Ziegler has fully cooperated with the police requests.  “We are confident that once the police investigation is concluded that no charges will be filed and Mr. Ziegler will be completely exonerated,” Byrd said in a statement. No charges have been filed against Ziegler, but the Sarasota Police investigation remains open. Fox News’ Stepheny Price and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

What to order at Chick-fil-A, according to nutrition experts

What to order at Chick-fil-A, according to nutrition experts

Navigating the Chick-fil-A menu in pursuit of a healthy meal can be a challenge, especially when a Chick-fil-A Deluxe Sandwich, waffle fries and milkshake are calling your name.  With a menu that revolves around fried chicken, it’s safe to say not everything on the Chick-fil-A lineup is inherently nutrient-dense.  Still, with a bit of strategic planning, you can make health-conscious choices at Chick-fil-A.  WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER AT SUBWAY, ACCORDING TO NUTRITION EXPERTS It’s key to focus on balanced options, incorporating lean protein sources, fresh vegetables and whole grains, said Christopher Mohr, a registered dietitian and co-owner of Mohr Results, Inc., in Louisville, Kentucky. “For those aiming for healthier choices, it’s advisable to opt for grilled over fried items, be selective with sauces and dressings, and consider portion sizes to align with your nutritional goals,” he said. With these guidelines in mind, keep reading for what nutrition experts suggest ordering at “The Chick.” For healthier choices at Chick-fil-A, go grilled.  “Choosing a grilled chicken breast sandwich will not only cut down on the saturated fat and the sodium, but it will also reduce the advanced glycation end products commonly created when protein is exposed to dry high-temperature heat like frying,” said Michelle Routhenstein, a preventive cardiology dietitian at EntirelyNourished.com in New York. “It’s made with a boneless breast of chicken, marinated in a blend of seasonings and grilled for a tender and juicy backyard-grilled taste,” said Mohr. He said the sandwich provides a good source of lean protein, which is essential for muscle maintenance and repair, and is lower in calories (330 calories) and fat (7 grams) than its fried counterparts.  WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER AT MCDONALD’S, ACCORDING TO NUTRITIONISTS “Pairing it with a side salad instead of fries can further enhance its nutritional profile,” he added.  Routhenstein also recommended forgoing fries but suggested pairing this sandwich with a fruit cup to increase the potassium level of your meal, which will negate the high sodium content. Chick-Fil-A’s 300-calorie Grilled Nuggets are another health-conscious option, said Mohr.  “These bite-sized pieces of boneless breast of chicken are marinated with a special blend of seasonings and grilled,” he said.  THESE 10 NUTRITION MISTAKES COULD BE TAKING YEARS OFF YOUR LIFE: HERE’S WHAT TO DO INSTEAD “They offer a high-protein, low-fat alternative to the traditional fried chicken nuggets,” he also said, noting that these grilled nuggets are especially suitable for those looking to increase their protein intake without extra calories or fat. The 60-calorie Fruit Cup is a refreshing and nutritious pick, said Mohr. “It typically includes a mix of mandarin orange segments, fresh strawberries, red and green apple pieces, and blueberries,” he said, noting that the fruit cup is rich in vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber — promoting digestion and overall health.  “It’s an excellent choice for adding a serving of fruit to your meal, especially as a dessert alternative to high-calorie, high-sugar options,” said Mohr.  For a healthy breakfast choice at Chick-fil-A, Mohr recommended the 290-calorie Egg White Grill.  CHICK-FIL-A LAUNCHING SEASONAL CHICKEN SANDWICH WITH PIMENTO CHEESE TOPPING “It features a breakfast portion of grilled chicken breast, grilled egg whites and American cheese served on a toasted multigrain English muffin,” he said, noting that this item provides a good balance of lean protein from the chicken and egg whites, helping to keep you fuller for longer. Plus, said Mohr, it’s lower in calories and reduced fat content compared to traditional breakfast sandwiches — making it a smart choice for those watching their dietary intake. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER Another healthy option at Chick-fil-A could be ordering a Market Salad with grilled chicken on top, suggested Routhenstein.  This 550-calorie salad comes with nutrient-dense ingredients such as mixed greens, red and green apples, strawberries, blueberries, roasted almonds and more.  “I would just remove half or more of the blue cheese crumble on top to lower the sodium and saturated fat content that can increase blood pressure and cholesterol levels,” she said.  Here’s an outside-the-box idea: “Many times, looking at the side options could give you a balanced meal that checks all the boxes,” said Routhenstein.  “For instance, if you wanted to have a Greek Yogurt Parfait, a Fruit Cup and a [Kale Crunch Side] salad, you would have a well-balanced meal that would be satisfying and a healthy on-the-go option.” A representative for Chick-fil-A noted that anyone can check out the chain’s food options at https://www.chick-fil-a.com/stories/9-nutritious-chick-fil-a-menu-picks.  For more nutrition facts on menu items, visit Chick-fil-A’s nutrition and allergens page on its website. On this day in history, December 4, 1783, Washington bids farewell to his troops at Fraunces Tavern in NYC

On this day in history, December 4, 1783, Washington bids farewell to his troops at Fraunces Tavern in NYC

George Washington gave a final goodbye to his soldiers at the close of the Revolutionary War on this day in history, Dec. 4, 1783. Washington, then-commanding general of the Continental Army, rallied his military officers at Fraunces Tavern in New York City, according to History.com. He then informed his troops that he would be stepping down from his commission to return to civilian life. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, DECEMBER 3, 1992, THE FIRST TEXT MESSAGE IS SENT The future first president of the United States led his army through six years of warfare against the British ahead of the triumphant Battle of Yorktown in 1781, where British General Lord Charles Cornwallis formally surrendered. This victory became known as the end of the Revolutionary War. Most of the Continental Army was disbanded in 1783 after the Treaty of Paris was signed, according to the Fraunces Tavern Museum. Once Washington was notified that the last of the British troops had sailed from Long Island and Staten Island, it was time for the war leader to bid his soldiers farewell. Although Washington had described his troops privately as undisciplined and unhealthy, his gratitude on the day of his departure was genuine, History.com reports. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, NOVEMBER 23, 1859, WESTERN OUTLAW BILLY THE KID IS BORN IN NEW YORK CITY Observers described Washington as “suffused in tears” during the scene at the iconic Lower Manhattan tavern. One complete account of the event comes from Colonel Benjamin Tallmadge, recorded by the Fraunces Tavern Museum website. Tallmadge’s account reads: “We had been assembled but a few moments when his excellency entered the room. After partaking of a slight refreshment in an almost breathless silence the General filled his glass with wine and turning to the officers said, ‘With a heart full of love and gratitude I now take leave of you. I most devoutly wish that your latter days may be as prosperous and happy as your former ones have been glorious and honorable.'” The account continues: “After the officers had taken a glass of wine General Washington said, ‘I cannot come to each of you but shall feel obliged if each of you will come and take me by the hand.’ General Knox, the closest officer to Washington, walked up to the General and the two hugged and kissed with tears running down their faces.”  ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY. NOVEMBER 22, 1963, JOHN F. KENNEDY, 35TH PRESIDENT, IS ASSASSINATED “In the same affectionate manner every officer in the room marched up and parted with the general in chief. Such a scene of sorrow and weeping I had never before witnessed and fondly hope I may never be called to witness again.” ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, NOVEMBER 21, 1864, ABRAHAM LINCOLN ‘PENS’ LETTER TO MRS. BIXBY Washington embraced about 30 of his soldiers one by one — then left for Annapolis, Maryland. After nearly eight years of war and strife, this would be the last time many of these men would see each other again, according to the museum. The general officially resigned his commission on Dec. 23 in front of the Continental Congress, delivering an emotional address. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, NOVEMBER 4, 1980, RONALD REAGAN ELECTED PRESIDENT, HERALDING ‘MORNING AGAIN IN AMERICA’ He remarked that “having now finished the work assigned me, I retire from the great theatre of action, and bidding an affectionate farewell to this august body, under whose orders I have so long acted, I here offer my commission, and take my leave of all the employments of public life.” Washington then returned to Mount Vernon, Virginia, with the expectation of retiring as a gentleman farmer.
