President Xi: China will send more giant pandas to the US

Giant panda in Washington

Chinese President Xi Jinping signaled late Wednesday that China will send new pandas to the United States, calling them “envoys of friendship between the Chinese and American peoples.” “We are ready to continue our cooperation with the United States on panda conservation, and do our best to meet the wishes of the Californians so as to deepen the friendly ties between our two peoples,” Xi said during a dinner speech with business leaders. The gesture came at the end of a day in which Xi and President Joe Biden held their first face to face meeting in a year and pledged to try to reduce tensions. Xi did not share additional details on when or where pandas might be provided but appeared to suggest the next pair of pandas are most likely to come to California, probably San Diego. 3 GIANT PANDAS LEAVE DC’S SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL ZOO FOR CHINA, ENDING 50-YEAR RUN TO CHINA AND XI, EVEN PANDAS ARE POLITICAL. AND NOW, THREE BEARS WILL EXIT THE US The bears have long been the symbol of the U.S.-China friendship since Beijing gifted a pair of pandas to the National Zoo in Washington in 1972, ahead of the normalization of bilateral relations. Later, Beijing loaned the pandas to other U.S. zoos, with proceeds going back to panda conservation programs. The National Zoo’s three giant pandas, Mei Xiang, Tian Tian and their cub Xiao Qi Ji, eight days ago began their long trip to China. After their departure, only four pandas are left in the United States, in the Atlanta Zoo. “I was told that many American people, especially children, were really reluctant to say goodbye to the pandas, and went to the zoo to see them off,” Xi said in his speech. He added that he learned the San Diego Zoo and people in California “very much look forward to welcoming pandas back.” Xi is in California to attend a summit of Indo-Pacific leaders and for his meeting with Biden. He made no mention of the pandas during his public remarks earlier in the day as he met with Biden. When bilateral relations began to sour in the past few years, members of the Chinese public started to demand the return of giant pandas. Unproven allegations that U.S. zoos mistreated the pandas, known as China’s “national treasure,” flooded China’s social media. GIANT PANDAS TO LEAVE THE NATIONAL ZOO IN D.C. FOR CHINA EARLIER THAN EXPECTED But relations showed signs of stabilization as Xi traveled to San Francisco to meet with Biden. The two men met for about four hours Wednesday at the picturesque Filoli Historic House & Garden, where they agreed to cooperate on anti-narcotics, resume high-level military communications and expand people-to-people exchanges. The National Zoo’s exchange agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation Association had been set to expire in early December and negotiations to renew or extend the deal did not produce results. The San Diego Zoo returned its pandas in 2019, and the last bear at the Memphis, Tennessee, zoo went home earlier this year.

Driver rams barrier near Israeli embassy in Tokyo, injures police officer

Driver rams barrier near Israeli embassy in Tokyo, injures police officer

A 53-year-old man reportedly has been arrested in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday after driving his vehicle into a barrier outside the Israeli embassy there.  The crash – which police say was caused by a suspect belonging to a right-wing organization – left a police officer in his 20s with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Reuters.  Israel’s ambassador to Japan Gilad Cohen wrote in a post on X that he was “shocked by the suspected vehicular ramming attack on a police officer on guard near the Israeli embassy in Tokyo. “This matter is under investigation by the local police. I would like to express gratitude to the Japanese government and Tokyo Police for their commitment to ensuring our security,” he added. “Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured police officer.”  LIVE UPDATES: ISRAEL AT WAR WITH HAMAS  Images taken from the scene showed a small van with its front passenger side mangled after striking the barrier.  The crash happened in an area near the embassy that has been the site of a few pro-Palestinian demonstrations in recent weeks, Reuters reports.  The news agency also cited residents as saying that police have increased security in the area since the onset of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7.  ISRAELI EMBASSY WORKER STABBED IN CHINA BY FOREIGN NATIONAL, AUTHORITIES SAY  The crash comes about a month after an Israeli embassy employee was stabbed outside his workplace in China, according to Chinese and Israeli authorities. The 50-year-old man, described as a family member of an Israeli diplomat, was attacked upon exiting the Beijing embassy on Oct. 13.  “The employee was transferred to hospital and he is in a stable condition,” the Israeli government said in a statement.  Beijing police have arrested a suspect in the stabbing, whom they describe as a 53-year-old foreigner.  The motive for that attack is unclear.  Fox News’ Timothy H.J. Nerozzi contributed to this report.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ star Glen Powell addresses affair rumors with co-star Sydney Sweeney

'Top Gun: Maverick' star Glen Powell addresses affair rumors with co-star Sydney Sweeney

Glen Powell literally bared all this week in a new interview in which he also addressed the rumors he and costar Sydney Sweeney secretly dated.  “When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair,” the “Top Gun: Maverick” star told Men’s Health in an interview published Tuesday for its December issue. “But what I’m realizing now is that’s just a part of this gig now.”  The rumors began after Powell and Sweeney were cast as romantic leads in the upcoming rom-com “Anyone But You” and were fueled by them acting friendly at press appearances and him breaking up with girlfriend Gigi Paris.  Sweeney is engaged to restaurateur Jonathan Davino.  ‘TOP GUN: MAVERICK’ STAR GLEN POWELL EXPLAINS THE CRUDE ADVICE TOM CRUISE GAVE HIM  Powell told the magazine dating has become more complicated since “Top Gun: Maverick” raised him to a new level of fame, and any potential girlfriend would have to be “down for that adventure” as his career takes off.  “When the sun is shining, you gotta make hay,” he said. “And you gotta chase this while you got it. And on a romantic level, you gotta find a teammate who is down for that adventure, down for that uncertainty, down for that thing. It’s a lot to deal with. Honestly, I really try to be a great partner. When I love, I love hard. I also understand that the speed and uncertainty of my life is a very hard thing to put up with.” He said dating after “Top Gun” can be tricky.  LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? Jake “Hangman” Seresin.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP “We would watch movies and talk about certain actors,” Powell said of his time with Cruise, 61, a producer on the film. “He was like, ‘You, as a person, are very apologetic. Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce’s long distance romance has fans anticipating next rendezvous

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce's long distance romance has fans anticipating next rendezvous

Taylor Swift flipped the script on Travis Kelce recently when she had the chance to perform for him during a concert in Argentina.  Swift, 33, changed her lyrics to include a shout-out to her main man, and sang, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” as Kelce stood in the crowd at “The Eras Tour” gig in Buenos Aires.  While the “Cruel Summer” singer has been spotted in the stands at his NFL games, and Travis returned the favor by supporting Swift internationally, there may be some time before the “New Romantics” publicly catch up due to their conflicting schedules. TAYLOR SWIFT TOUR MAY PREVENT THANKSGIVING AT HOME WITH TRAVIS KELCE Swift heads off to Brazil this week for the first of six stops on “The Eras Tour.” She’ll play three shows in Rio de Janeiro beginning Nov. 17 with the last concert on Nov. 19.  Kelce is set to suit up for the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, Nov. 20, and go head-to-head against his brother, Jason Kelce, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. TAYLOR SWIFT, TRAVIS KELCE MEET THE PARENTS: WHO’S WHO IN EACH FAMOUS FAMILY A flight from Rio de Janeiro to Kansas City, Missouri, is roughly 16 hours. While not impossible, it’s highly unlikely Taylor will catch the Kelces face-off against each other. Donna and Ed Kelce, however, may get a chance to meet Taylor’s parents, Andrea and Scott Swift. The Swifts are longtime Philadelphia fans, and knew Kansas City head coach Andy Reid when he was coaching the Eagles. The game is gearing up to be a big “family reunion,” according to Entertainment Tonight. Travis joked that he was bringing Swift’s dad Scott “over to the good side, baby” after Scott was seen wearing a Kansas City Chiefs lanyard at the concert in Argentina.  “Just one by one, getting all the good ones to come on over,” Travis said on their “New Heights” podcast.  TAYLOR SWIFT, TRAVIS KELCE’S PDA SIGNALS NFL PLAYER IS ‘ENDGAME’ FOR POP STAR: EXPERT “What are we doing, Scott?” Jason responded. “You’re gonna let this man’s devilish good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a lifetime of fandom, Scott? Ridiculous.”  Taylor may miss the “family reunion,” and it’s still unclear if she’ll be stateside for Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 23. Her next concert is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24 in São Paulo, Brazil.  If Swift were to leave the states from her New York apartment, she would be facing an almost 10-hour flight to São Paulo. A flight from Kansas City would set Taylor back roughly 12 hours. Travis is less likely to be traveling internationally again throughout the Thanksgiving holiday. The Chiefs play the Eagles on Monday, Nov. 20, and then face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Nov. 25. LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS Ed Kelce previously praised Travis and Taylor’s commitment to staying at peak performance levels. He told Entertainment Tonight, “I think she realizes how committed Travis is to sleep, 10 hours a day, when your body is going through this kind of thing. So I think they’re both very supportive.” He added, “I think they are two very, very driven professional individuals. I think they’re very supportive of each other, which is key. This is a rough time for either one of them to have a relationship. She’s in the middle of this ginormous tour, he’s knee deep [in the NFL season]. At least he takes his just as serious as she takes hers as far as commitment to their craft.” Kelce’s mom, Donna, has something in common with Taylor, too — scheduling conflicts. She admitted Thanksgiving is unique for the Kelce family as both of her sons are usually traveling for football, and she’s just hopeful to see her boys together on the holiday.  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER “They’re playing football. No, no, no, no. They’re practicing. They’re playing games on Sunday,” she told Extra. “I have always for the past, oh, 20 years, gone to where they are, even in college. It was like, wherever they were, they were playing football… We were usually at either restaurants or at somebody’s house or something like that. I was never home. I’m never home on Thanksgiving.” She admitted she has “no idea” who else could be in the stands on Monday night when her sons’ teams go head-to-head against each other on the field. As for Swift? “She has an actual concert the night before,” Donna said. “That’d be rough, so I’m thinking no.” Swift has a break for a few months before she brings “The Eras Tour” to Japan Feb. 7-10. Only time will tell if the Chiefs will be contenders for another championship ring, or if Taylor will be able to make it to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Feb. 11 for Super Bowl LVIII.

Woman vandalizes Israeli hostage posters right in front of captives’ own family in New York City

Woman vandalizes Israeli hostage posters right in front of captives' own family in New York City

Two Israeli men with family members who are believed to be held hostage by Hamas confronted antisemitic outrage in New York City on Wednesday when a woman ripped down posters of the kidnapped victims right in front of them.  One witness called the outburst a sign of the attacker’s “inhumanity.” The unidentified woman flippantly waved off the heartbroken Israelis as she scurried off down the street.  ISRAELI MOM RECOUNTS LAST CALL FROM TERRIFIED DAUGHTER AS ‘BRING THEM HOME NOW’ VOWS FIND HAMAS HOSTAGES Thomas Hand’s 8-year-old daughter, Emily, and Michael Levy’s 32-year-old brother, Or, have been missing since the Oct. 7 terror attacks in Israel — and are believed to be imprisoned in Gaza by Hamas.  “I’m horrified,” Naor Shalem, a pedestrian who saw the shocking incident, told Fox News Digital.  “I just don’t understand what they’re trying to achieve.” Hand and Levy were looking at images of kidnap victims on a fence outside Central Synagogue on East 55th Street in Midtown Manhattan.  Levy’s brother was among those whose faces were displayed at the busy intersection of Park Avenue. ISRAELI FATHER PLEADS WITH AMERICANS TO HELP SAVE HIS WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN HELD HOSTAGE IN GAZA The woman walked past the two men — then angrily tore down about 10 posters with the names, faces and ages of the hostages.  Hand — grief-stricken ever since his little girl disappeared on Oct. 7 — shouted out in anguish at the woman. He briefly appeared overcome with shock by what he had just seen.  The father’s suffering over the past 40 days has made international headlines.  He was first told in the days after the terror attack that his little girl was dead.  He said in one interview that he welcomed her death because it was better than her being held captive and tortured by Hamas. He found out later that his daughter had been taken hostage by Hamas.  “It’s a mystery why anyone would do this,” Hand said after collecting his thoughts following what he witnessed on a New York City street, still visibly shaken.  CHILDREN HELD HOSTAGE BY TERROR GROUP: ‘BRING THEM HOME NOW’ SAYS IT WON’T REST UNTIL ALL ARE SAFELY RETURNED Young Emily will likely spend her 9th birthday on Friday “in darkness,” he said in an earlier interview with Fox News Digital.  Emily is one of 32 children who is among the 240 Israelis apparently being held hostage in Gaza by Hamas terrorists. The woman who defiled the images of the hostage in Manhattan appeared to be in her 20s, had jet-black hair and was wearing a green winter coat.  She responded only with silence when asked by a Fox News Digital reporter, who witnessed the incident and caught up with her down the block, why she tore down the posters of the kidnap victims.  The antisemitic action came while both Hand and Levy are speaking to people this week as part of an Israeli delegation in New York City to raise awareness of the plight of the hostages and their families. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER Rob Anders, head of the Tel Aviv-based volunteer organization Bring Them Home Now, and Israeli trauma expert Ofrit Shapira-Berman PhD, also witnessed the antisemitic action.  Hand said he’s been “a refugee” ever since his kibbutz of Be’eri in southern Israel was overrun by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7.  His daughter had spent the previous night sleeping over at a friend’s house when the attackers broke into the home and took Emily and others hostage.  Michael Levy said his brother likely saw his own wife murdered as they hid in a bus station bomb shelter that Hamas attacked with grenades. The couple’s son, Almog, is now an orphan who is being cared for by family members, said Levy, pending the hoped-for return of the boy’s widowed father. “They’re not winning the hearts and minds of people by showing their inhumanity,” said eyewitness Shalem, after picking up the vandalized kidnap victim posters off the Manhattan sidewalk. “I think the silent majority, in this world, in this country, has to speak up more and do more — otherwise people like this will just continue.” Sydney Borchers of Fox News Digital contributed reporting. New tech fails to help adoptive parents navigate obstacles: probe

New tech fails to help adoptive parents navigate obstacles: probe

An investigation into an artificial intelligence tool aimed at helping match children in foster care to prospective adoptive parents found that the technology offered limited help with the process. An AI tool called “Family-Match” that was embraced by several states to streamline the process of finding permanent adoptive homes for children in foster care has come up short, an Associated Press investigation found. According to a report on the investigation by Voice of America, social workers in Florida, Georgia and Virginia implemented the tool but ultimately found that it “often led them to unwilling families.” US MILITARY NEEDS AI VEHICLES, WEAPON SYSTEMS TO BE ‘SUPERIOR’ GLOBAL FORCE: EXPERTS Virginia and Georgia stopped using the tool after a trial run, the report said, noting that it only produced one or two adoptions per year. Meanwhile, Florida agencies reported having a better experience with the tool. Phil Siegel, the founder of the Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation (CAPTRS), told Fox News Digital that part of the problem with the system in the early stages could be a “lack of concrete data on what makes a successful and unsuccessful adoption that a model can use.” “Models like this require an enormous amount of data that is comparable across many situations to work. Marriage matches have that level of data, which is why the models work better for those types of matching,” Siegel said. “Plus, the power of suggestion works much better in romance — because people can make the prediction come true if they believe it — than it would in adoption where the power of suggestion plays a lesser role.” ADOPTIVE MOTHER SHARES COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT FOSTERING, ADOPTION Nevertheless, states seem willing to continue giving the platform a chance, realizing the potential that the technology has to improve an often cumbersome process. While Georgia initially stopped its use of the Family-Match platform, the state recently reversed course and signed a new agreement that will allow the state to use the platform for free. Florida has also committed to paying for the platform after a grant that funded its initial use expired, according to the Voice of America report. According to Siegel, the potential is there for AI to help streamline basically any process. “AI can greatly assist in streamlining adoption or any other white-collar labor tasks,” Siegel said. “AI can help recruit and onboard people interested in adoption. It can remind them to complete paperwork and even assist them in completing that paperwork. AI can also match children and families effectively by removing human bias in decision-making.” CLICK HERE FOR MORE US NEWS “Family-Match could have problems with the quality of data human beings are putting into the system or could be having some teething issues during implementation,” Siegel continued. “As long as the expectations around what the AI can achieve are realistic, I imagine further refinement of this concept will lead to an AI-powered tool that helps social workers and families alike.” But Samuel Mangold-Lenett, a staff editor at The Federalist, says there are also concerns, including the possibility that AI systems could actually end up complicating the process. WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE? “Criminal-sentencing AIs further complicated the criminal justice system and created additional levels of bureaucracy by human interaction that is crucial to the process,” Mangold-Lenett said. While Mangold-Lenett acknowledged it’s possible for AI to be more efficient at processing “thousands of data points,” he said the technology cannot duplicate the human connection that’s so important to adoption. “The foster care system should place human engagement and heart-to-heart connection at the forefront of the adoption process, not data comparability,” Mangold-Lenett said. Family-Match did not immediately respond to a Fox News request for comment.

Here’s the proof Bidenomics really isn’t working for Americans

Here's the proof Bidenomics really isn't working for Americans

The American economy continues to stumble along, doing better than expected at the macro level, while hurting working Americans at the micro level. Inflation continues to loom large, despite October’s numbers beating Wall Street’s expectations; interest rates are at near record high levels, the housing market is a trainwreck, and credit card debt is at all-time highs. Yet, for some reason, the Biden administration continues to give speeches touting the strength of the economy, touting Bidenomics. However, it isn’t resonating with voters. A recent poll shows that just two percent of voters in “six battleground states said the economy was excellent. More than half of voters under 30, Hispanics, women, and people in every income bracket say they trust former President Trump to handle the economy more than Biden.” Inflation continues to remain higher than the Fed’s goal of 2.0 percent. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the most common measure of inflation, increased 3.2% in October 2023, versus September 2022. While the CORE CPI, which excludes more volatile variables such as fuel and food, was 4% higher. What is lost on the majority of talking heads on financial television is that the CPI in October 2022 was 7.7%, meaning that prices today are nearly 11% higher than they were in 2021. While this is lost on the talking heads, it isn’t lost on working Americans who are trying to put food on the table and gas in their trucks. CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINION Given high inflation and declining real wage rates, “the Bureau of Economic Analysis recently revised its previous estimates to show household disposable income was lower and personal consumption was higher than previously reported.” American families have lost $7,000 in spending power during Biden’s presidency. Given that the average American family earns $71,000 per year, this is a significant loss. Perhaps this is why so-called experts are forecasting a sluggish holiday season, per CNBC. People simply do not have the money to spend on holiday gifts. More significantly, people are having to dig into their savings and their retirement funds to pay for basics. Nearly 33% of Americans have less than $100 in their savings accounts. Only 40% of Americans can pay for a $1,000 emergency expense. Emergency 401K withdrawals are up 27% this year. BIDEN BASHED FOR CLAIMING TO SEE ECONOMY ‘THROUGH THE EYES’ OF SCRANTON In addition, we are seeing credit card debt reach record levels, surpassing $1 trillion. A recent Clever Real Estate survey found that “3 in 5 Americans (61%) are in credit card debt, owing an average of $5,875. In addition, 23% say they go deeper into credit card debt every month and 14% say they’ve missed a payment in 2023.” People are not incurring debt to go on vacations or purchase new televisions. They are incurring credit card debt to purchase necessities such as groceries, pay rent, and utilities. It isn’t just credit card debt that is dragging the economy down. The housing market is stuck in the doldrums. Homebuilder sentiment is at a 10-month low, as mortgage rates are kissing 8.0 percent. Housing prices remain steady due to a lack of inventory. People with mortgages at 4 percent or less are not selling. The only reason we have not seen a collapse of the housing market is that Americans learned their lessons from the housing collapse in 2008, and the number of variable rate mortgages is negligible, representing only 9.2 percent of mortgage applications in the last week of October. However, we are seeing more and more people back out of agreements to purchase a home. The percentage of home purchase cancelations reached 16.3 percent in September, which represents 53,000 canceled agreements. Meanwhile, home foreclosures are up 34 percent year over year, with more than 150,000 homes in some sort of foreclosure procedure last quarter. It isn’t just housing and credit cards; automobile repossessions are now up more than 20 percent. President Biden can continue to run for reelection on the strength of Bidenomics. But the American people are hurting, working harder than ever to fall further and further behind. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM JIM NELLES

Pro-Palestinian violent protest erupts outside DNC headquarters in Washington DC, Capitol police injured

Police in the nation’s capital responded to the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee as pro-Palestinian demonstrators grew violent as they called for an immediate cease-fire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) said about 150 people were “illegally and violently protesting” near the DNC headquarters building in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington. Protesters told Fox News Digital that there were 300 people protesting the war. “Officers are making arrests,” USCP said on X. It advised people to stay away from the area. WATCH: ISRAEL FINDS WEAPONS, MILITARY EQUIPMENT USED BY HAMAS IN KEY GAZA HOSPITAL AFTER RAID, IDF SAYS USCP confirmed on X that six officers were injured during the clash on Wednesday evening.  Authorities said that the officers suffered injuries ranging from minor cuts, pepper spray burns or being punched by protesters who turned violent alongside peaceful protesters. Approximately 150 officers and at least 50 police cruisers from The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) were seen at the protest, with videos showing protesters violently clashing with officers. Videos on social media showed protesters shoving police officers and trying to grab hold of metal barricades at the DNC headquarters as the officers forcefully removed the individuals. TENS OF THOUSANDS ‘MARCH FOR ISRAEL’ IN WASHINGTON, DC The U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department did not immediately confirm to Fox News Digital how many protesters were arrested during the evening. The group was heard shouting “Ceasefire Now!” while standing against officers.  Protesters included members of If Not Now and Jewish Voice for Peace, who have organized other demonstrations in Washington D.C. since Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7. Many of the protesters were wearing black shirts that read “Cease Fire Now.” In an interview with Fox News Digital, a pro-Palestinian protester insisted that they were peacefully protesting, and that officers were reacting violently. “We were peacefully saying, ‘ceasefire now,’ and the cops violently pushed us to the ground, threw us to the ground,” Olivia said. “The violence happening around the world is happening in our backyard.” BIDEN PUTS CONDITION ON HUMANITARIAN AID TO GAZA AS ISRAEL ALLOWS EGYPT TO DELIVER SUPPLIES The protester declined to share how the protesters were organizing, saying that they were “concerned citizens.” “We’re demanding a ceasefire now,” Olivia said. “Eleven-thousand people have been murdered. Millions of our taxpayer dollars go to Israel to carry out this genocide.” Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., told The Associated Press that initially about 100 people — House leaders, lawmakers and Democratic candidates running for the House — were at a reception at party headquarters, and speeches were interrupted by the chants outside. About seven lawmakers were huddled in the basement and evacuated into police SUVs. Sherman took to social media following his evacuation, calling the protestors “pro-Hamas.” “Was just evacuated from the DNC after pro-terrorist, anti-Israel protestors grew violent, pepper spraying police officers and attempting to break into the building. Thankful to the police officers who stopped them and for helping me and my colleagues get out safely,” Sherman wrote in an X post.  HAMAS TERRORISTS LIKELY USED NORTH KOREAN WEAPONS DURING BRUTAL ATTACK ON ISRAEL, EVIDENCE SHOWS “Apparently, these pro-Hamas demonstrators want Republicans to prevail in the next Congressional election,” Sherman added. Illinois Rep. Sean Casten wrote that he was also evacuated from the DNC headquarters, thanking police for safely evacuating the members of Congress. Former Michigan Representative and Senate candidate Peter Meijer was quick to point out the difference between the protesters at the DNC and the “March for Israel” event on Tuesday. “A quarter-million folks rallying on the Mall yesterday to support Israel? Peaceful, orderly, strong,” Meijer wrote. “Two hundred anti-Israel protesters outside DNC tonight? Chaos, weakness, Capitol buildings locked down. Says a lot!” Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton wrote that President Joe Biden should treat the “pro-Hamas insurrectionists” the same as they have treated the January 6 cases. “Biden admin must use every law-enforcement tactic against these pro-Hamas insurrectionists that it has used in the January 6 cases,” Sen. Cotton wrote on X. “Track them down, arrest them, convict them, and lock ‘em up.” The Associated Press contributed to this report.

On this day in history, November 16, 1907, Oklahoma joins Union as 46th state

On this day in history, November 16, 1907, Oklahoma joins Union as 46th state

The state of Oklahoma, once consisting of vast tracts of sparse “unassigned lands” in the Great Plains, joined the Union on this day in history, Nov. 16, 1907.  “Oklahoma has become a state, standing on full equity with her elder sisters, and her future is assured by her great natural resources,” President Theodore Roosevelt announced to Congress days later.  As the nation’s 46th state, Oklahoma became the first new territory to achieve statehood since Utah in 1896.  ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, NOVEMBER 15, 1956, ELVIS MAKES BIG-SCREEN DEBUT IN ‘LOVE ME TENDER’ Oklahoma would be followed by New Mexico and Arizona in 1912 to complete the contiguous 48 states — then Alaska and Hawaii to give the nation the 50 United States it enjoys today. The United States briefly flew a 46-star flag, from July 4, 1908, until July 4, 1912, before it was replaced by the more familiar World War II-era 48-star flag. That later version of Old Glory represented the nation for nearly a half century.  Oklahoma was originally part of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803.  It was born from the most fevered land rush in American history, the Land Run of 1889.  “President Benjamin Harrison, who took office on March 4, issued the proclamation on March 23, 1889, opening the unassigned lands,” according to an account on the website of Cleveland County, Oklahoma. “It is rumored the opening on the lands would be Saturday, April 20, 1889. Being a religious man, Harrison was afraid [that] claimants would be too tired to attend church on Sunday, so the opening was reset for Monday, April 22, 1889.” SADDLE UP! OKLAHOMA COWBOY PROUDLY CONTINUES FAMILY LEGACY OF CRAFTING CUSTOM SADDLES Under an earlier law, the Homestead Act of 1862, legal settlers could claim 160 acres of public land — for free — if they lived on and improved the land for five years. “The ink was hardly dry on Harrison’s March 23, 1889, proclamation before Oklahoma settlement colonies were being formed in major U.S. cities,” writes the Oklahoma Historical Society. “Across the nation, prospective settlers began hitching their teams to wagons and loading aboard their families and scant worldly goods. Others saddled their fastest horses or caught trains for what they considered to be the most advantageous point of entry.” The hopeful Oklahoma settlers who gathered in the boomtowns quickly became known as “boomers.” Those who rushed the land illegally too soon were derided as “sooners.” NATIONAL WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA DAY, DEC. 17: REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN VETERANS DURING THE HOLIDAYS The Oklahoma Historical Society describes in further detail “the great dramatic moment” at noon on April 22 when starting signals were fired off in the settler gathering points. “In some instances (the signal) was given by a blue-clad military officer firing his pistol or by his trumpeter, at times by a citizen firing his rifle in the air, or, as at Fort Reno, by the boom of a cannon. All produced the same results — a tumultuous avalanche of wagons and horsemen surging forward all in one breathtaking instant.” The settlers began lobbying for statehood almost immediately, according to several accounts of Oklahoma history.  Despite the feverish land rush, vast Oklahoma is still a state of wide-open spaces — a testament to just how large the nation remains. Oklahoma today has roughly 4 million residents — about half the population of New York City — spread across a sprawling 69,000 square miles.  The state is larger in size than major European nations such as Greece (51,000 square miles), England (50,000 square miles) and Portugal (34,000 square miles).  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER The nation’s most densely populated state, New Jersey, has 9.3 million residents packed into just 8,700 square miles.  The April 1889 land rush is reenacted on Saturdays each autumn when the horse-drawn “Sooner Schooner” — a replica of a Conestoga wagon — races across the field before the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team takes the field. “Boomer Schooner” is the university fight song and a popular 1-2 chant — Boomer! Sooner! — at sporting events today.  The song was written in 1905, showing that Oklahoman residents embraced the legacy even before they achieved statehood.  “The early legal settlers of Oklahoma Territory held a very low opinion of sooners,” the Oklahoma Historical Society reports.  “That began to change by 1908 when the University of Oklahoma adopted the name for its football team … Although apparently never officially designated as such by statute or resolution, Oklahoma has since been known as the Sooner State.” For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle.

JESSE WATTERS: The chemistry between Biden and Xi was unmistakable

JESSE WATTERS: The chemistry between Biden and Xi was unmistakable

Jesse Watters recaps the meeting that President Biden had with Chinese President Xi in California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s hometown of San Francisco on “Jesse Watters Primetime.” JESSE WATTERS: Today was supposed to be Gavin Newsom’s day after a romantic first date in Beijing, where Xi showed Gavin his exquisite birds, intertwined trees and custom to Toboggins. Gavin thought he was a shoo-in for a second date.  Xi was flying into Gavin’s hometown, San Francisco, and when Gavin found out, he grabbed the broom and cleaned up. Sorry, vagrants. I have a date. He waited for Xi at the airport marveled at him as he descended onto the tarmac.  The way Gavin looked at Xi was kind of like how Taylor Swift looks at Travis Kelce. Now in Beijing, images of Xi and Gavin were plastered all over the billboards, and then Gavin turned San Francisco into Chinatown. Killing millions of Americans with COVID and fentanyl was water under the bridge.  Gavin was ready to take the relationship to the next level until he found out there was someone else – Joe Biden. The president flew in on Air Force One. Now Newsom had competition.  When Xi saw Joe, they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. As Joe likes to brag, he spent more time with Xi than anyone else. Not to mention the fact that Xi’s guys bribed the Biden family. The chemistry was unmistakable.  For more Culture, Media, Education, Opinion, and channel coverage, visit foxnews.com/media.

SEAN HANNITY: America’s relationship with China has severely deteriorated

SEAN HANNITY: America's relationship with China has severely deteriorated

Sean Hannity discusses how America’s relationship with China has severely weakened since President Biden entered office on “Hannity.” BIDEN-XI MEETING TO SEAL DEALS ON FENTANYL, MILITARY COMMUNICATIONS, WHITE HOUSE SAYS SEAN HANNITY: America’s relationship with China has severely deteriorated since Joe Biden has become president and frankly, for good reason.  China, we all know, infected the world with COVID-19, a disease that killed more than a million Americans. There has never been any accountability. They continue to ship massive quantities of cheap fentanyl to North America. That is a drug that is killing 200 of our fellow Americans every single day.  Again, never held accountable. They threaten our allies, including Taiwan and the Philippines, constantly flying into Taiwan airspace. Constantly. They conduct hostile maneuvers around our military aircraft in international airspace. They confront our Navy in international waters. And Joe Biden does nothing. Kaitlin Armstrong declines to testify in her own defense during Texas murder trial

Kaitlin Armstrong declines to testify in her own defense during Texas murder trial

Texas prosecutors in the murder trial of Kaitlin Armstrong, who is accused of killing a romantic rival in a home invasion shooting before fleeing the country, rested their case Wednesday while she declined to testify in her defense.  Kaitlin Armstrong, 37, is accused of shooting professional cyclist Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson to death in a friend’s apartment on May 11, 2022, after she went on a date with her suspected killer’s boyfriend, former pro cyclist 36-year-old Colin Strickland. Wilson, a Vermont native and emerging star in gravel and mountain bike riding, was visiting Texas for a race. Strickland picked her up on his Harley-Davidson and took her swimming at a public pool. They ate dinner at a bar across the street. KAITLIN ARMSTRONG TRIAL: COLIN STRICKLAND KNOCKS CAMERA OFF JOURNALIST’S SHOULDER AFTER 2ND DAY OF TESTIMONY After the slaying, Armstrong used her sister’s passport to fly to Costa Rica and evaded police for 43 days. Once in police custody, she allegedly tried to escape from Travis County jail guards, leading them on a 10-minute foot chase before they captured her a mile away. Throughout the nearly two-week trial, jurors heard from DNA and firearms experts, as well as photo data and GPS analysts. Defense lawyers have said the prosecution’s case is largely circumstantial. Pamela Mazak, an intelligence analyst with the Texas Attorney General’s Office, testified for the state and showed the jury a timeline of events using location data from Wilson and Armstrong’s cell phones.  Strickland testified that he had to hide Wilson’s phone number from Armstrong under a fake name in his phone. Two of Armstrong’s friends said she told them she wanted to, or could, kill Wilson. TEXAS ‘LOVE TRIANGLE’ MURDER SUSPECT KAITLIN ARMSTRONG’S SHORT-LIVED ESCAPE ATTEMPT CAUGHT ON VIDEO Police interviewed Armstrong, among others, after Wilson was killed. The day after that interview, Armstrong sold her Jeep for more than $12,000 and was soon headed to Costa Rica, where investigators say she had plastic surgery to change her nose, and she changed her hairstyle and color. Armstrong tried to establish herself as a yoga instructor in Costa Rica before she was finally caught on June 29. The jury also heard about another escape attempt by Armstrong, on Oct. 11, when she tried to flee two corrections officers who had escorted her to a medical appointment outside jail. Video footage showed Armstrong, in a striped jail uniform and arm restraints, running and trying to scale a fence. Armstrong’s lawyers spent only a few hours presenting her defense Wednesday. When asked by her lawyer in front of the judge and with the jury out of the room, Armstrong declined a chance to testify in her own defense. Defense lawyers have argued someone else could have killed Wilson.  They also called an expert on forensic metallurgy, William Tobin, to try to debunk the firearms and tool-marking methods used to match the bullets to Armstrong’s gun as faulty, saying they can lead to “false positives” and should not be used to determine guilt or innocence.  Tobin acknowledged he did not review the evidence in this case. Fox News Digital’s Michael Ruiz and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Titans rookie Will Levis’ ex posts breakup video amid rumors they’re back together

Titans rookie Will Levis' ex posts breakup video amid rumors they're back together

Gia Duddy, who reportedly broke up with Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis, added to the speculation with a new “breakup” video on her TikTok page Tuesday.  Duddy gained notoriety back in April as she sat with Levis in the NFL Draft green room as he waited for his name to be called. It never happened in the first round, though the Titans pulled the trigger in the second round with the 33rd overall pick on the gunslinger out of Kentucky.  Rumors of their split came in September, and though he doesn’t directly address it in her latest video, the subject is quite interesting. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM “Why is everyone breaking up right now?” Duddy said in the video. “All of my friends have broken up with their boyfriends. What’s happening? And it’s not even like there’s no dramatic breakups, everyone is just breaking up because it’s not what’s best for each other right now.” As Levis was set to begin his rookie year, Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” reported the couple broke things off after three years together.  TITANS NAME WILL LEVIS STARTING QUARTERBACK OVER RYAN TANNEHILL FOR REST OF SEASON Duddy, a social media influencer, moved to Nashville prior to the start of the 2023 season.  However, TMSPN, a sports entertainment site, reported in October that Levis and Duddy were allegedly back together. But they did not make their reunion official.  Titans head coach Mike Vrabel named Levis the starter for the remainder of his rookie year over veteran Ryan Tannehill, who dealt with injury earlier in the year.  The 24-year-old started his first game against the Atlanta Falcons, and he lit it up with four touchdown passes on 19-of-29 for 238 yards. However, since that big win, Levis and the Titans haven’t won a game with the latest loss coming at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past Sunday.  In his last two games, Levis hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass, while giving up two interceptions.  The Titans will see an AFC South foe this Sunday in the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are coming off a brutal loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Texas bishop ousted by Pope rallies outside US bishops meeting as they reinforce Catholic voter values

Texas bishop ousted by Pope rallies outside US bishops meeting as they reinforce Catholic voter values

The Pope Francis ousted leader of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, and dozens of his supporters, rallied outside the annual fall business meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Wednesday in Maryland. Over the weekend, Bishop Joseph Strickland, a conservative, was removed from the “pastoral care of the diocese,” according to a bulletin from the Vatican, which also said Bishop Joe Vásquez of Austin was appointed as interim apostolic administrator. Strickland wrote in a May 12 social media post on X, “I believe Pope Francis is the Pope, but it is time for me to say that I reject his program of undermining the Deposit of Faith. Follow Jesus.” POPE FRANCIS REMOVES CONSERVATIVE TEXAS BISHOP WHO WAS CRITICAL OF HIM Along with the post, Strickland also became the subject of a Vatican investigation earlier this year, and promised at the time he would not voluntarily resign. He was ultimately removed because of his severe criticism of the pontiff, yet on Wednesday he was praying the rosary with dozens of supporters along the waterfront in Baltimore. While outside, the bishops were inside approving a document suggesting how Catholics should rely on the church’s teachings and stances on issues like anti-abortion and pro-immigration, when casting their ballots. TEXAS BISHOP CLAIMS ‘BIDEN-LED GOVERNMENT SLIDES CLOSER TO COLLAPSE,’ US MUST PUT ‘SPIRITUAL HOUSE IN ORDER’  The bishops approved supplements to its voter guide, known as “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.” The guide included inserts and a video script with emphasis on current issues. The bishops restate in the material that opposition to abortion is “our pre-eminent priority,” while also making a call for school choice and parents’ right to protect their children from “gender ideology” and the de-escalation of anger-driven politics. The church also calls on its congregation to stand in “radical solidarity” with pregnant women, as efforts to restrict abortion are likely to galvanize abortion rights supporters. POPE SAYS TWO-STATE SOLUTION NEEDED FOR ISRAELIS, PALESTINIANS  Other examples for upholding human dignity, as outlined in the guide, include rejecting gender transitions, racism, assisted suicide, euthanasia, the death penalty and an economy that excludes and harms people. The church also calls to support common-sense gun violence prevention, immigrants, refugees and criminal justice reform. But outside the meeting, Strickland and others made their presence known. Strickland said Cardinal Cristophe Pierre, the papal nuncio, asked him not to attend the meeting. Pierre is Pope Francis’ diplomatic representative to the U.S. VATICAN CHASTISES BISHOPS, PASTORS FOR DIVISIVE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS: ‘DIGITAL TRIBALISM’ Strickland told the Associated Press he was not there to start a movement, adding he respects the Vatican’s decision. Still, supporters of his held signs voicing concerns about Strickland’s removal, including Mary Rappaport from Alexandria, Virginia and Suzanne Allen of Westport, Connecticut. “We’re in a spiritual battle,” Allen told the AP. “When the pope asked Bishop Strickland to resign, it was a wound to the whole church.” Rappaport told the wire service she thinks the bishop’s removal was a sign of greater issues, as if the pope is trying to change the church in dangerous ways. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Strickland’s supporters said they disagree with the pope’s move to welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community and focus on climate change. Fox News Digital’s Brie Stimson and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
