TX sheriff’s office probed by FBI over corruption allegations

San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers at news conference

The FBI is investigating a Texas sheriff who faced complaints of corruption from his own deputies for years before drawing broader scrutiny for his agency’s response to a mass shooting, according to a woman interviewed by federal agents. The woman said she’s twice met with a pair of FBI agents in recent months after contacting them about what she feels was the sheriff’s botched investigation of her brother’s killing. Jenifer Jones told The Associated Press the agents gathered records accusing San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers and his staff of wide-ranging misconduct and told her they were looking for potential civil rights violations. During hourslong interviews, Jones said they asked specific questions about cases and events well beyond her brother’s death. Federal investigators’ interest in the rural sheriff comes after an AP investigation found longstanding accusations that Capers has ignored deputies’ misconduct and neglected basic police work while pursuing asset seizures that boost his office’s $3.5 million budget but don’t always hold up in court. TEXAS SHERIFF WAS NEVER INVESTIGATED DESPITE YEARS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT CORRUPTION, ACCORDING TO DEPUTIES TEXAS SHERIFF TELLS CONGRESS COUNTY ‘UNDER SIEGE’ AS DEPARTMENT SHARES MIGRANT SMUGGLING CASES It’s unclear how far along the FBI investigation is or when it might be concluded. Many federal investigations never result in criminal charges. An FBI spokesperson said the agency neither confirms nor denies investigations. Capers did not directly respond to calls seeking comment, but his second-in-command said they haven’t heard from agents and that their office is always open to outside scrutiny. “I look forward to the visit, if they’ll show up here and ask the other half of the story,” Chief Deputy Tim Kean said. The probe follows years of complaints by the sheriff’s staff to state and federal law enforcement. Capers gained prominence in May while leading the dayslong search for a man who fatally shot five neighbors in the county, which is an hour’s drive from Houston. But he also drew criticism for initially providing inaccurate information about deputies’ response time and from some residents who said they felt neglected by and even fear the sheriff. The time agents spent with Jones shows they have “a great deal of interest in information she’s providing,” said Michelle Lee, a retired FBI agent in Texas. She noted that’s a strong indicator of an open investigation, but warned that such probes can go on under-the-radar for years. Jones, 47, said she reached out to the FBI over the summer, hoping the scrutiny of Capers following the shooting would make it easier for her to draw attention to the sheriff’s investigation into her brother’s death. TEXAS SHERIFF’S DEPUTY KILLED RESPONDING TO DOMESTIC FIGHT, SUSPECT ARRESTED Jones’ brother, John Wayne Dodge, was fatally shot in 2020 and sheriff’s deputies arrested his son for murder. But in 2022 prosecutors dropped the case “in the interest of justice,” court records show. Jones believes another man is responsible for her brother’s death and was never adequately investigated. San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon said information about that man was also presented to a grand jury in 2020. Dillon said that he couldn’t comment on another agency’s investigation, but that after taking office last year he concluded there wasn’t “sufficient evidence or cause to proceed” with the case against Dodge’s son. In September, Jones said she met with two FBI agents from Bryan, Texas. During the interview, she said they indicated there might not be much they could do about Dodge’s case but asked for her help connecting them with people who may have been wronged by the sheriff. Jones said she also gave the agents a copy of a police consultant’s report that compares the sheriff’s office to organized crime. The county leaders who paid nearly $50,000 for the report last year disregarded its recommendation to ask the Texas Rangers’ public corruption squad to investigate Capers. TEXAS SHERIFF OPENS CRIMINAL PROBE INTO DESANTIS OPERATION TO FLY MIGRANTS TO MARTHA’S VINEYARD Agents would consider it a “red flag” that officials ignored the conclusion of a report they paid for, Lee said. Jones provided the names and official email addresses of the agents she met with. A law enforcement official confirmed agents with those names work for the FBI in Bryan. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. Jones said she met with them again in October, providing more records and contact information for other people who were interested in talking about the sheriff. She recalled one agent telling her they were looking for cases in which people’s rights were violated. Jones said she wants county residents to know there is an outside authority they can turn to with complaints about the sheriff. “I feel like the victims of this county have nowhere else to go,” she said.

Cold and flu season is coming: Know the warning signs and symptoms now

Cold and flu season is coming: Know the warning signs and symptoms now

“Game of Thrones” may be over, but winter is still coming. That means the dreaded cold and flu season is right around the corner.  “A visit with a clinician has become increasingly common for upper respiratory symptoms since the COVID pandemic,” Mark Fendrick, M.D., a general internist at the University of Michigan, who is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, told Fox News Digital.  HAVE A COLD OR FLU? HERE’S HOW TO KNOW IF YOU CAN STILL WORK OUT: ‘USE THE NECK CHECK’ “However, it is much more likely that cold symptoms will be self-limited and not require more than your favorite home remedy,” added Fendrick, who has studied the common cold. While there’s no specific treatment for the common cold, there are some instances when antivirals are prescribed to treat the flu, the doctor noted.  “Doctors can only prescribe recommended treatment for specific causes that are less common than the common cold, such as antivirals for influenza or COVID-19 or antibiotics for bacterial infections such as strep throat,” Fendrick said. FLU PREVENTION TIPS FROM FLORIDA’S SURGEON GENERAL: A ‘DAY-TO-DAY’ HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IS KEY It’s important to understand the signs and symptoms that should alert you to seek medical attention when you have a cold or the flu this winter season, he said. Here’s what to know. The common cold can be caused by as many as 200 respiratory viruses, but the most prevalent is the rhinovirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.  The flu is caused by influenza viruses that generally infect the nose, throat and sometimes the lungs, per the CDC. The cold and flu share many of the same symptoms, which means it can sometimes be difficult to tell the difference between the two conditions.  People are generally sicker with the flu, experts agree. AFTER LOSING HER LEG TO THE FLU, VIRGINIA WOMAN URGES PEOPLE TO GET VACCINATED: ‘DON’T WASTE TIME’ Flu symptoms are more intense and come on quicker than the common cold, which generally has milder symptoms. “The cold and flu can sometimes be complicated by pneumonia, bacteremia and rarely even central nervous system involvement,” Dr. James H. Conway, pediatric infectious disease physician and medical director of the immunization program at UW Health Kids in Madison, Wisconsin, told Fox News Digital. When respiratory viruses infect the nose, the body responds by making mucus to help clear out the viruses, according to the CDC. SKELETONS FROM 1918 FLU PANDEMIC REVEAL CLUES ABOUT THOSE MOST LIKELY TO DIE, STUDY FINDS People may develop nasal congestion, which is more common with colds. They may also experience sneezing, coughing or a sore throat. Over the next several days, the mucus may change color to white, yellow or green. This color change is a natural progression of a cold, so antibiotics that fight bacteria are not typically prescribed, per the CDC. Most people with colds don’t develop a fever, so that symptom combined with headache and body aches could indicate influenza. Symptoms from a cold usually peak within two to three days.  Conway recommends watching for symptoms that indicate a cold or flu may have turned into a more serious infection. These may include higher fevers, he said, since most viral infections don’t generally cause that symptom. COVID-19, FLU AND RSV VACCINES ARE ALL AVAILABLE THIS FALL: SEE WHAT SOME DOCTORS RECOMMEND AND WHY Other warning signs include shaking chills, fast or labored breathing, and any type of bad headache or confusion, he added.  “Any of these viral illnesses can also lead to ear infections or sinus infections,” Conway said.  In those cases, fever with ear pain or facial pain is often seen. Most illnesses from a cold or the flu last fewer than 10 days; but if symptoms persist and a person hasn’t gotten better by the end of that timeframe, it’s important to see a health care professional, per the CDC. STUFFY NOSE? COMMON OTC NASAL DECONGESTANTS WITH PHENYLEPHRINE DON’T WORK IN TABLET FORM, EXPERTS SAY If you are unsure whether your symptoms are serious, always talk to your health care provider, either in person or via a virtual appointment. “The increased availability of telemedicine provides an opportunity for many individuals to describe their symptoms and other important clinical information (such as the presence of fever) without an in-person visit, so their clinician can determine whether further evaluation of treatment is needed in most cases,” Fendrick told Fox News Digital. People who are at high risk of complications from the flu should contact their health care provider early in their illness to determine whether they should get a prescription for an antiviral medication like Tamiflu. This includes those who are 65 and older, young children, pregnant women and those who have had asthma, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, heart disease or stroke. Tamiflu can be prescribed within 48 hours of the start of the flu illness in people 2 weeks of age and older, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER The oral antiviral medication reduces the duration of the flu by attacking the virus and preventing it from multiplying in the body, the FDA added. Adults should carefully watch for warning signs in children with the flu, experts advise. “In babies, it’s trickier, so poor feeding is something else to watch for,” Conway said. Children with the flu may also start to experience breathing difficulties.  Parents should take a child to the doctor or emergency room right away if they notice the child’s lips turning blue or the ribs pulling in with each breath.  Complaints of chest pain also warrant a visit, according to the CDC. Dehydration is also common among children with the flu, so parents should seek medical attention if the child has not urinated for eight hours or has no tears when crying, the agency added. Other emergency warning signs are when young children become more fussy or drowsy than usual, or if they are not alert or interacting when awake, according to the CDC. The keys to prevention, Conway stated, are getting flu vaccinations and having ill people stay home to prevent the spread. For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health.

Illegal immigrant convicted of murder in Venezuela found living in state-funded housing in Massachusetts

Illegal immigrant convicted of murder in Venezuela found living in state-funded housing in Massachusetts

A man convicted of murder in Venezuela who managed to cross the southern border was found living in state-funded migrant housing on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, according to a statement released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The fugitive, identified by Boston 25 News as 38-year-old Jordano Gotopo-Lopez, was convicted of homicide in his home country of Venezuela, where he has been wanted since 2006 for a violation of his sentencing conditions there. Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston arrested Gotopo-Lopez on Oct. 27 at a migrant housing facility on Joint Base Cape Cod in Bourne.  MAYORKAS CONFIRMS OVER 600,000 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS EVADED LAW ENFORCEMENT AT SOUTHERN BORDER LAST FISCAL YEAR ICE said Gotopo-Lopez “failed to disclose” his previous conviction when he was arrested for illegally entering the U.S. in Eagle Pass, Texas, on July 31.  Gotopo-Lopez was processed in Texas and given a notice to report himself to immigration authorities in 60 days, but he never showed up. MAYORKAS CONFIRMS OVER 600,000 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS EVADED LAW ENFORCEMENT AT SOUTHERN BORDER LAST FISCAL YEAR When Gotopo-Lopez was discovered by authorities at the Cape Cod shelter, he admitted that he had been convicted of murder and was wanted in Venezuela, ICE said. BORDER PATROL STOPS RECORD NUMBER OF PEOPLE ON TERROR WATCH LIST AT SOUTHERN BORDER He was arrested without incident and will remain in custody until his removal from the U.S., according to ICE. ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons said that his team remains committed to “identifying, apprehending and seeking the removal of unlawfully present fugitives who pose a real threat to public safety.” “The people of Massachusetts have a right to be made aware of potential risks to their public safety, especially when an unlawfully present fugitive living in housing provided by the Commonwealth, is present in their community,” Lyons said.  HIGH MIGRANT NUMBERS BREAK MULTIPLE RECORDS IN NEW BLOW TO BIDEN BORDER STRATEGY “ERO Boston remains committed to identifying, apprehending and seeking the removal of unlawfully present fugitives who pose a real threat to public safety. We will continue to safeguard our communities and fulfill our mission in Massachusetts and throughout New England. The hospitality of the people of the Commonwealth must never be taken advantage of by those who violate our immigration system and threaten the security of our residents,” Lyons said. ICE said that in fiscal year 2022, ERO removed 46,396 noncitizens with criminal histories. The government agency noted that there have been 198,498 associated charges and convictions, including 21,531 assault offenses; 8,164 sex and sexual assault offenses; 5,554 weapons offenses; 1,501 homicide-related offenses; and 1,114 kidnapping offenses. Fox News Digital reached out to ICE for additional information.

High school students walk out of class in protest of transgender bathroom policy: ‘They ignore us’

High school students walk out of class in protest of transgender bathroom policy: 'They ignore us'

Students at a high school in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) walked out in protest of the district’s gender policy that allows non-binary, gender-fluid and transgender students to use whichever school bathrooms and locker rooms they want based on their chosen gender.  Around 50-100 students at Woodgrove High School participated in the walkout to protest Policy 8040, which the Loudoun County School Board implemented in 2021, ABC WJLA reported. The students said they wanted LCPS to revert to a policy that provided female and male-only spaces, including bathrooms, locker rooms and showers. “In the locker rooms in the morning it’s an invasion of privacy, as I said because when men and natural-born males are in our locker rooms, and they are showering in the morning, natural-born females can walk in there as they please,” one male high school student told WJLA. “And that is not OK. And it goes against what we believe in.” LOUDOUN COUNTY FATHER ARRESTED AT SCHOOL BOARD EVENT SAYS SCHOOL TRIED TO COVER UP DAUGHTER’S BATHROOM ASSAULT A female student told the local news outlet she stopped using the bathroom at school because of the policy, calling it a “massive safety risk” that LCPS doesn’t “do anything about.” LOUDOUN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS HIT WITH LAWSUIT FOR ‘MORAL CORRUPTION OF CHILDREN,’ PARENTAL ‘VIOLATIONS’ “We express these concerns and they ignore us and write us off as right-wing crazies,” she said. “We’re not crazy. We just don’t want to be in danger on a daily basis in this building. I think it’s people finally stepping up and just being sick of it. We’re sick of being here and just being completely ignored. I stopped using them [the bathrooms] because I don’t know what’s going to happen to me in there. And people can be like, ‘Oh, well, that’s paranoid’.” “I’m telling you right now half the women in this building feel the same way,” she added. “We don’t use the bathrooms. We hold our pee until we can’t. I mean, there are girls in PE [Physical Education class] who still get changed in the bathroom stalls in there because they’re afraid of who might waltz in.” Another male student told WJLA that he would like to be able to change after football practice and not feel uncomfortable that “other genders” are watching him.  “I feel that girls feel the same way about the situation. How would you feel if you were a female changing with a male?” he asked. LOUDOUN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS NAMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT AMID CONTROVERSY OVER RESPONSE TO SEXUAL ASSAULTS Some counter protesters waived pride flags in support of the bathroom policy, the outlet reported.  “I’m here to support all of the children,” one of them told WJLA. “No matter who they are. Yours, mine, all of them.” One student said the “entire school” should be part of the walk out, but another explained “there are a lot of people who are scared to speak out against it, so they stayed inside because they don’t want to see the backlash.” LCPS did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.  CLICK TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP For more Culture, Media, Education, Opinion and channel coverage, visit foxnews.com/media

Just-married Iowa teacher accused of sex acts with students as young as 13

Just-married Iowa teacher accused of sex acts with students as young as 13

Months after her wedding, an Iowa teacher faces criminal charges for allegedly “engag[ing] in multiple sexually-oriented acts with at least three [male] students, the youngest of which being 13,” according to area police.  Cassidy Kraus of Westside, 24, was just married to her husband on July 1, according to an online announcement from the couple. Court records show that her new husband filed for divorce on August 28. Three days before the filing, Inside Edition reported, Kraus tendered her resignation in lieu of termination at IKM-Manning Schools.  The school board announced the news at the time and noted that the teacher had been on leave since an investigation was launched into her alleged conduct after the school received reports from a parent that she was distributing illicit material.  75-YEAR-OLD TEACHER LEARNS FATE AFTER FACING 600 YEARS IN PRISON FOR STUDENT SEX ASSAULT Just last week, Kraus was arrested on two counts of lascivious acts with a child, three counts of dissemination of obscene material to a minor and third-degree sexual abuse, according to a press release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.  A criminal complaint filed against Kraus and obtained by Fox News Digital goes into slightly more detail. Allegedly, the Iowa teacher “perform[ed] sex acts with a person 14 years of age and “disseminat[ed] obscene material” to one victim via Snapchat in 2022 and two more in 2023.  In at least two instances, Kraus allegedly “fondl[ed] or touch[ed] the pubes or genitals” of children, per the Carroll County Court complaint.  ARIZONA TEACHER ON LEAVE AFTER DRESSING UP AS DEVIL, TELLING STUDENTS ‘HAIL SATAN’ The other two victims were between the ages of 13 and 14, KTIV reported. Kraus posted $10,000 bond the morning after her arrest, according to the police press release, and was released from Carroll County Jail ahead of her first court appearance, which is scheduled for Thursday.  EX-MISSOURI TEACHER WHO DITCHED CLASSROOM FOR ONLYFANS HAS NO REGRETS: ‘FAR EXCEEDED MY TEACHER SALARY’ She has yet to enter a plea, according to online records. Kraus’s attorney, Kevin Hobbs, declined to comment on his client’s pending case. Fox News Digital could not reach IKM-Manning Schools for comment at press time.  If convicted on all counts, under Iowa sentencing guidelines, Kraus could face up to 33 years in prison.

Chicago struggles to house waves of migrants as freezing temperatures hit city

Chicago struggles to house waves of migrants as freezing temperatures hit city

As the migrant crisis continues, some recent arrivals faced a rude awakening on Tuesday morning as freezing temperatures hit Chicago. “Thousands of migrants sleeping at police stations woke up to freezing cold conditions on Halloween morning as city officials, volunteers and faith-based organizations scrambled to find warmth Tuesday for a population, mostly from Venezuela, that has never experienced cold,” The Chicago Tribune reported on Tuesday. “Temperatures plummeted overnight to a low of 30 degrees at O’Hare International Airport, said the National Weather Service, and safety networks stepped in to react to emergencies brought on by the cold.” City officials say the Windy City has accepted more than 19,000 migrants since August 2022, but they are not the only ones who will need assistance during the winter. There are over 68,000 Chicagoans experiencing homelessness, according to a recent study, the city says. Migrants are sleeping in conditions ranging from the interior of police stations to living in makeshift cardboard houses on the street. DEM TEXAS MAYOR SAYS CITY IS AT ‘BREAKING POINT’ AS BORDER CRISIS RAGES The Chicago Tribune quoted Erika Villegas, a lead volunteer at the 8th District in Chicago Lawn, as she criticized local officials for “not taking this seriously enough.” She went on to criticize the condition of the tent cities outside of police stations for having been “inhumane” to begin with, “but now this is truly a crisis. There are hundreds of children out there.” The Associated Press also covered the crisis, noting similarly to the Chicago Tribune that “layering clothing is a novel concept for most of the migrants who are used to warmer climates.” Associate professor of emergency medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and physician Dr. Scott Dresden observed, “This is certainly a unique winter with a larger population who are without housing than we are used to.” University of Chicago professor and chief of the section of emergency medicine Michael Kurz offered a similar warning that the situation appears to be more than the city can handle. ILLEGAL BORDER CROSSINGS SPIKING IN SEPTEMBER AS DAILY ENCOUNTERS CONTINUE TO CLIMB “We will literally exhaust any resource in order to be able to accommodate citizens of our community and make sure they have what they need,” he said. “But it appears (that) the influx of migrants is rapidly outscaling the resources the city has to provide.” The mayors of multiple major American cities, including those in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and New York are reportedly pressing to meet with President Joe Biden about assistance on managing the migrant crisis, warning the previous federal assistance is woefully inadequate. “Our cities need additional resources that far exceed the amount proposed in order to properly care for the asylum seekers entering our communities,” the mayors’ letter obtained by the Associated Press says. “Relying on municipal budgets is not sustainable and has forced us to cut essential city services.” For more Culture, Media, Education, Opinion, and channel coverage, visit foxnews.com/media.

2020 debate claims are coming back to haunt Biden as GOP probes into Hunter swirl: ‘Lie, deny, counter accuse’

2020 debate claims are coming back to haunt Biden as GOP probes into Hunter swirl: 'Lie, deny, counter accuse'

President Joe Biden made several claims during the 2020 presidential debates that 3 years later are being labeled as falsehoods by conservatives as evidence continues to trickle out in the investigation into his son Hunter’s foreign business ties and the president’s involvement. “My son has not made money in terms of this thing you’re talking about, what are you talking about, China,” Biden said on the debate stage leading up to the 2020 election.  Since that claim, Hunter Biden has admitted in court that he received $664,000 from a “Chinese infrastructure investment company.” “Lie, deny, counter accuse,” GOP Rep. Pat Fallon posted on X on Wednesday with a clip of Biden’s claim about his son’s dealings in China. “The three principles of the Biden family influence peddling scheme!” FBI RECEIVED ‘CRIMINAL INFORMATION’ FROM OVER 40 CONFIDENTIAL SOURCES ON JOE BIDEN, HUNTER, JAMES: GRASSLEY Also on Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee released information it says shows that Biden received $40,000 in “laundered China money” from the bank account of his brother and his sister-in-law in the form of a personal check which would contradict another debate claim from candidate Biden.  “I have not taken a penny from any foreign source ever in my life!” Biden said on the debate stage. “I have not taken a single penny from any country whatsoever, ever.” House Oversight Chair James Comer said that even if the check — which was 10% of the $400,000 sent to Hunter’s company Owasco — was, in fact, a loan repayment, “it still shows how Joe benefited from his family cashing in on his name — with money from China no less.” While President Biden has maintained he was never in business with his son, text messages obtained by Fox News Digital back in 2020 revealed that Joe Biden, in May 2017, met with Hunter’s business associates for the Sinohawk venture — specifically, Tony Bobulinski. The meeting on May 2, 2017, would have taken place just 11 days before a May 13, 2017, email obtained by Fox News in 2020, which included a discussion of “remuneration packages” for six people in the business deal with CEFC.  The email includes a note that “Hunter has some office expectations he will elaborate.” A proposed equity split references “20” for “H” and “10 held by H for the big guy?” with no further details. HUNTER BIDEN MISSING FROM STATE DINNER GUEST LIST AFTER BACKLASH FOR ATTENDING OTHERS AMID LEGAL ISSUES The “big guy” has been said to be a reference to President Biden.  The communications obtained by Fox News Digital were found on a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden that bring to light another claim Biden made on the 2020 debate stage that also appears to be false. “What he’s accusing me of is a Russian plant,” Biden said about the laptop on the debate stage when pressed by Trump. “What he’s saying is a bunch of garbage. Nobody believes it except him and his good friend Rudy Giuliani.” For years, Biden and his administration officials have claimed that the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian “misinformation” despite numerous media outlets independently verifying its legitimacy.  “My son did nothing wrong,” Biden said on the debate stage during the Democratic primary in 2019. “I did nothing wrong.” The White House did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. Corey Seager named 2023 World Series MVP after heroic Fall Classic performance

Corey Seager named 2023 World Series MVP after heroic Fall Classic performance

Texas Rangers veteran shortstop Corey Seager has been named the 2023 World Series after he helped lead his team over the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games.  The Rangers took down the D-Backs in Game 5 on Tuesday night, 5-0, where Arizona’s starter Zac Gallen had a no-hitter going through six innings.  But who else to break it up than Seager in the top of the seventh inning, hitting a single that would lead to a Mitch Garver RBI single to score him for the first run of the game for either team.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM It’s how Seager has been all series long: Getting hits in the right moments to elevate his team.  That began in the bottom of the ninth with one out and a runner on base in Game 1 back in Texas. The Rangers were down 5-3, and Seager absolutely launched a pitch from Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald into the right field seats to tie the game.  RANGERS WIN WORLD SERIES FOR FIRST TIME IN FRANCHISE HISTORY Adolis García would walk it off with a homer of his own in the 11th, giving Texas its first win on the road to their first World Series title in franchise history.  But Seager has been in this position before, winning it all with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the shortened 2020 season. He was named World Series MVP then, hitting .400/.556/.700 in the six-game series with two homers and five RBI. In this series, Seager went 6-for-21 with all of his hits at one point being home runs, totaling three over the five games. He had six runs scored and six RBI as well. Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the Game 5 victory.  Seager’s World Series MVP trophy also puts him next to one of the players synonymous with postseason baseball in MLB history. The only two-time World Series MVP position player was Reggie Jackson, famously known as “Mr. October,” who secured it in 1973 with the Oakland Athletics and the 1977 New York Yankees.  Seager’s just the fourth player ever to win two World Series MVP trophies. Pitchers Sandy Koufax and Bob Gison have multiple MVP trophies for the Fall Classic as well.  For the entire postseason, beginning with the Rangers’ victory over the Tampa Bay Rays up to now, Seager had a .318 average with a .451 on-base percentage and 1.133 OPS along with six home runs, 18 runs scored 12 RBI in 66 at-bats.

Over 20 Republicans join Democrats to kill censure resolution against Rashida Tlaib

Over 20 Republicans join Democrats to kill censure resolution against Rashida Tlaib

The House of Representatives voted to kill a resolution to censure progressive Rep. Rashida Tlaib, R-Mich., on Wednesday night. Nearly two dozen Republicans voted along with all House Democrats to table the resolution in a final vote of 222 to 186 in favor of killing the motion without debate. Democrats briefly broke out into applause when the resolution failed. Tlaib had been the target of a censure, a form a formal punishment in the House, introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., over Tlaib’s comments and actions related to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Greene had blamed Tlaib for a protest last month that saw hundreds of Gaza ceasefire demonstrators arrested after they took over the Cannon House Office building. Greene repeatedly referred to the protest as an “insurrection” in the text of her resolution.

Colorado Republican Rep. Ken Buck won’t run for re-election

Colorado Republican Rep. Ken Buck won't run for re-election

Colorado Republican Rep. Ken Buck won’t run for re-election to the U.S. House in 2024, he announced Wednesday. In a video to constituents, Buck criticized the GOP for what he called the “insidious narratives” that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, and prosecutions following amounted to weaponization of the Justice Department. Buck said he believed the GOP needed to return to conservative principles instead of “self-serving lies.”  “To my friends in Colorado, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve our nation, and to serve you,” Buck said in a statement. “I look forward to seeing you at the grocery store and the high school football game. Being your representative in Washington, DC, has been the greatest professional thrill, and highest honor, of my life.” This is a breaking news story and will be updated

American XL Bully officially banned in UK after spate of attacks

American XL Bully officially banned in UK after spate of attacks

American XL Bully dogs will be banned in the United Kingdom next year following a series of attacks and deaths involving the muscular dog breed. The U.K. government announced Tuesday that the breed is being added to the list of prohibited canines under the Dangerous Dogs Act, according to The Independent. The law states it will be illegal to own an XL bully from Feb. 1, 2024, with owners facing a criminal record and an unlimited fine after that date unless their dog is on an exemption list and owners comply with strict requirements, such as microchipping and neutering their pets. UK CONSIDERS BANNING AMERICAN XL BULLY DOGS FOLLOWING ATTACK THAT INJURED 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL Under the new rules, XL Bullies older than 12 months on Jan. 1, 2024 must be neutered by the end of June, while dogs less than a year old on that date must be neutered by the end of 2024. Owners who opt to put their XL Bullies to sleep will be offered around $240, the U.K. government said.  Portions of the law will go into effect at the end of this year. From Dec. 31, it will be illegal to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, gift, rehome, abandon or allow American XL Bully dogs to stray in England and Wales. From this date, these dogs must also be kept on a lead and muzzled in public. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak referred to the breed in September as a “danger to our communities,” after a man in England died in a suspected attack by two of the dogs. An 11-year-old girl was also injured by a suspected attack by an XL Bully. In May, a 37-year-old man died after being mauled while looking after his friend’s dog, reported to be an XL Bully, according to Sky News. Last year a man and a woman were jailed after admitting to being in charge of a XL Bully that mauled a 10-year-old boy to death in 2021. The series of attacks led to a public outcry. Sunak called on government ministers to legally define the characteristics of the American XL Bully with the assistance of police and canine experts and vowed to outlaw the breed. The breed is not recognized by groups such as the Kennel Club in Britain or the American Kennel Club in the United States. American XL Bully owners have held protests in London opposing the ban. UK WILL BAN AMERICAN XL BULLY DOGS AFTER SERIES OF RECENT ATTACKS The American XL Bully was originally bred from the American pit bull terrier. Some campaigners have called for the type of dog to be added to the banned list because they believe dangerous characteristics have been bred into the animals. The U.K. Kennel Club also does not recognize the breed but has argued that no breed is inherently dangerous. The organization does not believe that breed-specific bans address the most important factors contributing to attacks, primarily irresponsible dog owners who train their dogs to be aggressive. Bully breeds’ names come from their origin used in blood sports, such as bull baiting. The dogs are muscular in stature and have heavier bone structures than pit bulls.  Pitbull terriers, Japanese tosas, dogo Argentinos and fila Brasileiros are already banned in the United Kingdom, according to The Associated Press.  The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Oklahoma Superintendent warns math publishers, ‘Go to California’ if they can’t teach math without CRT

Oklahoma Superintendent warns math publishers, 'Go to California' if they can't teach math without CRT

Oklahoma’s top education official is warning textbook publishers that if they can’t teach basic academics without “pushing indoctrination,” they shouldn’t bother bringing their curriculum to the state. “Look, for me, that’s absolutely fine. If you can’t teach math without talking about transgenderism, go to California, go to New York,” Superintendent Ryan Walters remarked to Fox News Digital. The conservative official has been at the forefront of the state’s battle against left-wing ideologies in public schools. Recently, several publishers of math texts withdrew their petitions to be included in the state curriculum, after Walter warned them Oklahoma would not accept textbooks that have critical race theory and social emotional learning content. “I sent out a letter to all textbook companies involved with the state and say, Listen, we will be checking for these things now. Do not give us textbooks that have critical race theory in them,” he said. AS OKLAHOMA SCHOOLS CHALLENGE ‘WOKE’ CONTENT, TEXTBOOK PUBLISHERS WITHDRAW FROM STATE Oklahoma lawmakers passed a law regarding “subject matter standards” in 2020, requiring an extra review by experts before a textbook is recommended to the state textbook committee, a process they said can filter out textbooks of poor quality or questionable content. Walters said he sent a clear message to vendors that if they violated the law in order to push gender ideology and CRT-type philosophies in their textbooks, they were not welcome to do business in the state.  “In Oklahoma, our kids are going to know the basics. We want them to master it. We want them to do exceptionally well academically,” he explained. “We’re not here for any kind of Joe Biden’s socialist Marxist training ground.” “And if a vendor cannot produce textbooks that actually help our students understand math and understand better science, well, then they can go somewhere else. We’ve got plenty to choose from, and I know that there’s going to be plenty of folks that are able to get us great materials for our schools,” Walters said. Besides challenging incoming texts, Walter said the state has taken several steps to empower parents and teachers, while protecting children in Oklahoma schools. They’ve passed a parent bill of rights, universal school choice, and a ban on pornographic material. LISTEN UP, TEACHERS: STOP GOING WOKE Walters has also led a fight against teachers unions in his state, whom he says take money away from teachers and promote radical political ideology rather than education in public schools.  His state wants to reward teachers and tutors based on free market principles, he said. That’s why they recently launched a teacher-recruitment program that will allow teachers to make up to six figures working in the classroom as part of an effort to reward good teachers. His mission to overhaul the school system comes down to getting kids to focus “on the basics,” like reading, writing and history, he says, instead of “woke indoctrination.”  “We’re not talking about ‘Flamer.’ We’re not talking about ‘Gender Queer.’ We’re not talking about make-believe genders. We’re talking about truth, reality. And we’re going to get our kids ready to go by focusing on the basics,” he said. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP This ideology not only “lies” to kids and “warps” their worldview, he said, it also is linked to poor academic standards in schools. He gave the example of his investigation into Tulsa Public Schools, which he said first violated the state’s ban on CRT in the classroom. Over 95% of students at 15 elementary schools in the district couldn’t read at grade-level, he said.  “It is not a coincidence that your most woke school districts are your lowest performing school districts. The two are absolutely tied together,” Walters analyzed. “Which is why we’re not only committed to driving out every ounce of woke indoctrination in our schools, we’re also dedicated to using free market principles to stand up and encourage mastery of those basics in our schools.” The former high school history teacher pushed back on the narrative that conservatives are trying to ban books that talk about slavery and civil rights from the classroom. U.S. history classes should teach students to look at the principles the country was founded on, and evaluate the country’s record of applying those principles as a whole, he argued. “So as you go through, you talk about the times that America has led the free world, that we have continued to be that light. We’ve done more for individual liberty than any other country in the history of the world. And those belief systems that were there in place, it allowed us to do it. You’ve got to talk about our Judeo-Christian values. The founders were very clear that that was a crucial part of our success. Then you go through and you evaluate. Are these times we lived up to our core principles? You’ve got to be honest with kids about our history. So you talk about all of it, but you evaluate it through the prism of our founding principles. Is this a time we lived up to those principles?” he said. The conservative sees his fight in Oklahoma as part of a national battle against the Biden administration’s actions in education. “We are absolutely not going to bend the knee to Joe Biden and do the bidding of the most radical administration that we’ve ever seen in this country,” he said. LAURA INGRAHAM: How does it makes any sense for the US to go further into debt?

LAURA INGRAHAM: How does it makes any sense for the US to go further into debt?

Laura Ingraham highlights the demands for more funding to Ukraine, Israel and other causes as the U.S. debt continues to rise on “The Ingraham Angle.” LAURA INGRAHAM: It was a clown show on Capitol Hill today – the same people who’ve been wrong about pretty much every major foreign policy issue for the past 25 years are back at it again. Today, Blinken and Austin testified before Congress asking for another $106 billion for multiple urgent priorities – Ukraine, Israel, something in the Far East and humanitarian aid to Gaza. They call it an emergency supplemental, but the real emergency is in Biden’s reelection campaign, which is taking on more water than Biden’s taken naps.  Now, this, by the way, went on and on and on. So much for that unbreakable Biden coalition. Now, this is where most normal people, though, are asking how it makes any sense for the US to go further into debt to pay for these emergencies when we already have $33 trillion that we’re going to have to pay off? And last fiscal year, a staggering $1.7 trillion budget deficit. This is their answer.  This is mind-blowing. Deplete our own stockpiles by sending weapons to, sadly, a losing cause in Ukraine, then spend more money to replenish the stockpiles which will help the defense contractors. They really do think you’re stupid. Well, the things are going the way things are going now in Ukraine. We should just have the Pentagon send weapons directly to Russia because they’re going to end up taking them eventually anyway, just like they did, of course, the Taliban in Afghanistan.  Now, the fact is, even the staunchest war hawks can no longer make a persuasive case for Ukraine. This is the main reason, by the way, why they want to combine the $61.4 billion request for Ukraine with the funding requests for legitimate reasons, like Israel and elsewhere.  For more Culture, Media, Education, Opinion, and channel coverage, visit foxnews.com/media.

Rangers hero Adolis García out of World Series Game 4 lineup due to injury

Rangers hero Adolis García out of World Series Game 4 lineup due to injury

The Texas Rangers will head into Game 4 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks without their Game 1 hero, Adolis García, on Tuesday night. Garcia is dealing with a “moderate oblique strain,” according to manager Bruce Bochy, which Garcia tweaked in the Rangers’ Game 3 victory on Monday night. Because of that, García wasn’t in the starting lineup for the Rangers. While Bochy said that García would be evaluated, ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that he was walking through the clubhouse with a bat and said “all is good.” CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM “It’s not great news,” Bochy said. Travis Jankowski replaced García in the lineup, as he will play in right field. Mitch Garver also moved up the lineup to the No. 3 spot where García has exclusively been. Evan Carter will hit fourth and Josh Jung will hit fifth.  RANGES’ ADOLIS GARCIA BLASTS WALK-OFF HOME RUN IN 11TH TO COMPLETE COMEBACK IN GAME 1 OF WORLD SERIES García left Monday night’s game in the eighth inning after flying out. He was in pain once he made the swing, and he was immediately taken out of the game by Bochy for further evaluation. The initial diagnosis was left-side tightness before Bochy’s comments on his oblique. García has had a historic run in October, hitting .323/.382/.726 with eight home runs in 15 games for Texas. García was named the ALCS MVP after smashing three homers in a six at-bat stretch to lead Texas over the Houston Astros in Games 6 and 7. His flair for the dramatic also came out in Game 1 of the World Series as he hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning after Corey Seager’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth forced extra innings. That home run gave Garcia 22 RBI for an MLB postseason record, breaking St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese’s previous record during the 2011 playoffs, where the Rangers fell in the World Series.  The Rangers, now up 2-1 in the series after beating the Diamondbacks on Monday night, 3-1, are taking García’s absence from the lineup in stride. It’s a next-man-up mentality.  “Whoever slots into his spot in the lineup is going to do a great job; whoever plays right field will do a great job,” Nathaniel Lowe told ESPN. “It’s nothing new to us.” First pitch is set for Game 4 at 8:03 p.m. ET on FOX with the Rangers giving the ball to Andrew Heaney and the D-Backs going with Joe Mantiply to start.
