New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ office lashed out Sunday against any FBI employee who might have “improperly leaked details” of a federal corruption probe implicating Hizzoner.  This comes in response to the New York Times’ reporting that the federal authorities were probing Adams for possibly improperly pressuring New York Fire Department officials into clearing the opening of a Manhattan sky-rise to house the Turkish consulate despite safety concerns about the 35-story building. Reacting to the report in a statement provided to Fox News Digital, City Hall Chief Counsel Lisa Zornberg said, “The mayor and our team are continuing to work with investigators and cooperate. We hope that investigators will continue to cooperate with us and reprimand any federal officer who has improperly leaked details about this investigation as such conduct could prejudice the public and undermines the integrity of our law enforcement process.” According to the Times, Adams’ unusual intervention came in the summer of 2021 after he won the Democratic mayoral primary but before the November general election. He was serving his second term as Brooklyn borough president at the time, and that role’s jurisdiction does not include Manhattan. The FBI reportedly has been questioning FDNY officials since last spring. FBI PROBES ERIC ADAMS’ FOR PRESSURING NYC OFFICIALS INTO OPENING TURKEY’S CONSULATE IN MANHATTAN: REPORT So far, federal law enforcement and prosecutors have not publicly disclosed the subject of the wide-ranging corruption probe, but an FBI search warrant for the Brooklyn home of Adams’ top campaign fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, obtained by the Times reportedly revealed the federal investigation has centered in part around whether Adams’ campaign conspired with the Turkish government, including its consulate general in New York, to illegally funnel foreign money into its coffers.  On Friday, Adams’ attorney, Boyd Johnson, revealed in a statement that FBI agents quietly seized phones and an iPad from the mayor earlier in the week as part of an investigation into political fundraising during his 2021 campaign. Texas A&M reportedly plans to fire head coach Jimbo Fisher after another year of missing out on the College Football Playoff and finishing well below expectations. A “devil-like figure” featured in a painting by a renowned artist that’s more than 230 years old has been rediscovered after a recent restoration. The discovery came as a result of conservation work done by the National Trust on a painting of a Shakespearean scene by 18th Century artist Joshua Reynolds, who died in 1792. Referred to by the Trust as a “fiend,” an evil spirit or demon, the painted figure proved to be controversial at the time. The figure, covered by layers of paint and varnish, was included in Reynolds’ painting based on a Shakespearean death scene, which was titled “The Death of Cardinal Beaufort.” Specifically, the painting shows a scene from Shakespeare’s “Henry VI, Part 2” with the king witnessing the death of Cardinal Beaufort. 300-YEAR-OLD PAINTING STOLEN BY US SOLDIER DURING WWII RETURNED TO GERMAN MUSEUM 80 YEARS LATER The figure, which included fangs and a sinister expression, was painted at the head of the bed, just above the dying Beaufort’s head. “It didn’t fit in with some of the artistic rules of the times to have a poetic figure of speech represented so literally in this monstrous figure,” said John Chu, the Trust’s senior national curator for pictures and sculpture.  “While it was considered acceptable in literature to introduce the idea of a demon as something in the mind of a person, to include it visually in a painting gave it too physical a form. There were even people who argued that it should have been painted out, although records of conversations with the artist show he resisted such attempts to alter the work.” The painting by Reynolds, first revealed at the Shakespeare Gallery in 1789, is one of four that the National Trust has conserved to mark the 300th anniversary of the artist’s birth. The artwork by Reynolds was created at the end of his career as a commercial commission for the Shakespeare Gallery in London’s Pall Mall, which paid 500 guineas for the painting, according to the Trust. CLIMATE ACTIVISTS TAKE HAMMERS TO FAMOUS PAINTING IN LONDON MUSEUM “The gallery also created prints for sale and export, something Britain was dominant in at the time. Engraver Caroline Watson produced the plates for prints of the Reynolds painting, the first copies showing the fiend, although a second print run in 1792, after the artist’s death, showed an attempt to remove it from the printing plate,” the Trust noted. “It perhaps isn’t a surprise that it had receded so far into the shadows of the picture. It appears it was misunderstood by early conservators,” Chu said of the figure’s disappearance. “Some decades after the painting was done, that area seems to have deteriorated into small islands of paint and become less clear due to the constituent parts of the paint. Degradation of successive varnish layers over the years made it even less visible.” After being examined by painting experts at the National Trust, it became clear that the fiend in the artwork had been painted over by several people and included six layers of varnish. “Reynolds is always difficult for conservators because of the experimental way he worked, often introducing unusual materials in his paint medium, striving for the effects he wanted to achieve,” said Becca Hellen, the Trust’s senior national conservator for paintings.  “The area with the fiend was especially difficult. Because it is in the shadows, it was painted with earth browns and dark colors which would always dry more slowly, causing shrinkage effects. … With the layers added by early restorers, it had become a mess of misinterpretation and multiple layers of paints. “This is a large painting, and we wanted to ensure that it still represented what Reynolds originally painted, which included allowing the fiend to be uncovered through removing all the non-original darkened varnishes and ensuring it still correctly showed its form and perspective with the work we did.” The painting is now back on display at Petworth House in West Sussex after treatment.

So how exactly should you store all this food — and how long can you safely eat leftovers?  AFFORDABLE, NO-FUSS WEEKNIGHT MEAL: STUFFED PEPPERS ARE ‘HEARTY, HEALTHY AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY’  Two food experts shared some smart leftover food safety guidelines. Here’s what you need to know to stay safe — and to waste as little food as possible.  If you’re creating a meal with meat or seafood, be sure to refrigerate leftovers in a timely fashion to preserve the meal.  The leftovers should be fine for a few days.  “Our general rule is that all cooked food is safe in a refrigerator kept at 40F for up to four days,” said Jesus Garcia, public affairs specialist with the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, in Washington, D.C. FROM SALMON TO SHARK, HERE ARE THE BEST AND WORST FISH FOR YOUR HEALTH “By the fourth day, you should consume, freeze it or discard it,” he said. All perishable items, including raw and cooked meat and poultry, should be refrigerated within two hours of coming out of the refrigerator or being cooked, said Garcia. “After two hours in the ‘danger zone,’ which is temperatures between 40F and 140F, bacteria can multiply to dangerous levels and cause the food to become unsafe,” Garcia told Fox News Digital.  It’s important to break down large meals like turkey or roast beef into smaller portions and store them in shallow containers so that items may cool faster, said Garcia. Other smart strategies are to cover leftovers, wrap them in airtight packaging or seal them in storage containers, he said.  BEST FOODS TO EAT FOR RADIANT, AGELESS SKIN AND WHAT TO AVOID, ACCORDING TO NUTRITIONISTS “These practices help keep bacteria out, retain moisture and prevent leftovers from picking up odors from other food in the refrigerator. Vanessa Imus, MS, RDN of Integrated Nutrition for Weight Loss (inutritioncenter.com) in Bothell, Washington, told Fox News Digital that leftovers should always be put away into a storage container with a well-fitting lid or covered sufficiently in airtight packaging to keep bacteria out.  She also said it’s very important to cool food rapidly.  “This means that if you have a big pot of soup or a large cut of meat, you’ll need to break it down into smaller portions before placing it in the refrigerator,” Imus said. As anyone can imagine, a whole turkey placed in the fridge will take longer to cool than sliced meats put away in several small containers, she said. You should not rely entirely on sight or smell to determine if leftovers are edible and safe, Imus pointed out. SPINACH VS. KALE: WHICH IS ‘BETTER’ FOR YOU? NUTRITIONISTS SETTLE THE GREAT DEBATE “Although I’ve seen friends do the ‘sniff test,’ that is not an accurate way to measure the safety of your leftovers. Your food may look perfectly fine, but that doesn’t mean it is perfectly fine,” she said. Instead, she agreed with Garcia to stick to the four-day rule.  “If you didn’t label your food and you can’t remember when you originally prepared it, then it’s time to throw it out,” Imus said.  “You would much rather be safe than sorry as the risk of food poisoning goes up after four days in the refrigerator.”  Always make sure to reheat leftovers to 165 degrees, said Imus.  “Yep, that means you’ll need a thermometer to check. Since microwaves can cause some cold pockets, be sure to stir and turn food as you reheat it,” she added. “The problem that people run into is that they’re busy hosting and entertaining and not paying attention to how long food is sitting out,” Imus told Fox News Digital. A 70-year-old car aficionado is raking in millions on YouTube, joining the “granfluencers” that are ditching retirement and taking off on social media.  “Once I got going on YouTube in one month, I would make more money than we saved in 40 years,” YouTube star Scotty Kilmer told Fox News. “It makes a big difference. Seniors 65 and older using social media increased from 11% to 41% between 2010 and 2021, according to the Pew Research Center, and some, like Kilmer, started using the apps to profit and pursue their interests.  “Most people hate their jobs,” Kilmer said. “I’m having fun. I’m meeting a lot of people. I’m helping a lot of people out. A 67-year-old retired engineer, Lynn Davis, for example, started posting cooking videos on YouTube in 2020. He attributes his success to telling people the truth through his skills and humor. “If somebody has got some kind of a skill and they’re good at it and they want to give it a try, it costs nothing to make YouTube videos,” Kilmer said. “If you have knowledge that other people want and you could share it with people, that’s basically what the internet started out for.”

There are a few intriguing NFL matchups in Week 10 of the season this weekend.  The league returns to Germany for a matchup between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. The Ravens have been playing well, especially when they’re at full strength. The team has the widest point differential in the league at plus-115 behind a high-flying offense led by Lamar Jackson. But they are going up against one of the best defenses in the NFL in the Browns. Cleveland enters the game first in yards allowed and third in points allowed. Myles Garrett is again the main cog of the defensive line. He has 9½ sacks and 25 tackles through eight games. Last week, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud gave NFL fans a look at what the future looks like. He set a record with 470 passing yards in a single game and had five touchdown passes. He became the sixth player in NFL history to throw for at least 450 yards, five touchdown passes and no interceptions in a game. And he’s making the Texans look brilliant for selecting him after media reports suggested he had character issues. That hardly seems to be the case for the Ohio State standout. Cincinnati registered a methodical win over the Buffalo Bills last week. Since Week 5, Burrow has led the NFL with a 111.2 passer rating. Stroud has the second-highest passer rating at 105.5. Thanksgiving is coming up quickly and plenty of Americans are already prepping for the feast-filled holiday.  With extra visitors coming by and sometimes last-minute chaos at home, pets can tend to be overlooked during holiday time.  Dr. Lindsay Butzer, a veterinarian from Boca Raton, Florida, shared with Fox News Digital her top tips for keeping pets safe this Thanksgiving holiday. KEEPING PETS SAFE IN THE COLD: 5 CRUCIAL TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR FURRY FRIEND THIS WINTER The veterinarian said her top recommendation for pet owners is to not overfeed their animals during the holiday. Read on for why — and for other insights.  Butzer said feeding your pets some table food on Thanksgiving can be OK — but that owners should proceed with caution.  “Overindulging in food is hard for us, and even our pets, to digest,” she said. “Food bloat is a real condition for pets that makes them uncomfortable and sick.” PET INSURANCE: WHAT IT IS, HOW IT WORKS, DIFFERENT TYPES, IF IT’S WORTH GETTING FOR YOUR FURRY FRIEND She said pets are safe to eat turkey with no seasoned skin and minimal fat, as well as plain steamed green beans, rice, plain potatoes, boiled carrots and other vegetables. But “have your pets stay away from eating turkey skin, buttery vegetables, gravy, bones and desserts,” she said.  The Clint Moore Animal Hospital veterinarian has over 165,000 TikTok followers and is known for sharing pet tips and tricks for animal owners.  Butzer said that veterinarians often can tell when a pet has been fed human food — and too much of it — after the holidays. Researchers say they’ve located a “kill switch” that can trigger the death of cancer cells. Scientists at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center in Sacramento, California, have identified a protein on the CD95 receptor that can “program” cancer cells to die, as detailed in a study published in the journal Cell Death & Differentiation last month. A receptor is a protein within a cell that receives and transmits signals. LUNG CANCER PILL SHOWS ‘EARTH-SHATTERING’ RESULTS IN 5-YEAR STUDY: ‘AN OPTIMISTIC TIME’ CD95 receptors — also referred to as Fas — have gained the nickname “death receptors” because they send a signal that causes cancer cells to “self-destruct,” according to a press release from UC Davis. “Previous efforts to target this receptor have been unsuccessful. But now that we’ve identified this epitope (target), there could be a therapeutic path forward to target Fas in tumors,” Jogender Tushir-Singh, an associate professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and senior author of the study, said in the release. Experts are hopeful that future cancer drugs could boost the activity of these CD95 receptors to create a new weapon against cancer tumors, which have been treated historically with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. WHY IMMUNOTHERAPY IS EMERGING AS THE ‘FOURTH PILLAR’ OF CANCER TREATMENTS, EXPERTS SAY Immune-based therapies, such as CAR (chimeric antigen receptor) T-cell therapy, have shown promise for a subset of patients, but have had limited effectiveness against many cancer types. “Despite being decently successful in liquid tumors, such as leukemia spectrum cancers, long-term remission remains the biggest challenge for CAR T-cell therapies,” Tushir-Singh told Fox News Digital in an email.  The bigger challenge with this therapy — which typically costs $500,000 or more — is that it has only shown “meager success” in treating solid tumors, the researcher noted. “Our study strongly provides a comprehensive takeaway and potential solution to transform the meager success of CAR-T therapies into potentially successful [therapies for] solid tumors.” NEW PROSTATE CANCER TREATMENT COULD BE ON THE HORIZON, SAY UK RESEARCHERS: ‘TREMENDOUSLY EXCITING’ The newly discovered “kill switch” could terminate tumor cells while also helping to make immunotherapies more effective — “a potential one-two punch against tumors,” the release stated. Thus far, no CD95-boosting drugs have made it into clinical trials. “Despite many breakthroughs in the cancer immunotherapeutic field, targeting Fas remains neglected, primarily due to fear of retaliation against immune-system T-cells,” Tushir-Singh told Fox News Digital. The study did have some limitations — namely, there is limited data from clinical trials, the researcher noted.  Tushir-Singh pointed out, however, that cancer researchers can now go back and collect human tumor samples from clinical trials and perform new analyses in light of these findings. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER “It is evident that the success of CAR-T therapy relies on off-target killing by Fas,” he told Fox News Digital.  “With the current information, we researchers and doctors should screen potential cancer patients — who would be undergoing CAR-T therapy — to check for the comprehensive presence of Fas on their tumors,” he went on.  “If a patient lacks Fas expression in his or her tumors, we need to find ways to safely manipulate these tumors and start making them Fas before giving costly CAR therapies. The latter would likely make the CARs more potent in long-term efficacy.” Looking ahead, Tushir-Singh said he is hopeful for the future of cancer treatments. “Due to the advent of cancer immunotherapy and other targeted therapies, cancer rates overall in the past decades have decreased significantly,” he said.  “I read every day the outstanding research that is happening in the U.S. to beat cancer. Incumbent Republican Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves secured a second term at the helm of the Magnolia State after Democratic opponent conceded the race late Tuesday night. Reeves defeated Democrat Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley — who is rock and roll legend Elvis Presley’s second cousin — in a contest closer than one might expect from ruby-red Mississippi. WHY THE GOVERNOR’S RACE IN MISSISSIPPI IS TURNING HEADS THIS YEAR Reeves touted his record as governor during a debate earlier this year, citing the state’s lowest unemployment rate in history, rising educational achievement levels and work with hospital leaders to prevent hospitals from closing. The Mississippi economy and healthcare, in particular Medicare expansion, became major issues in the race. Mississippi is the poorest state in the nation with a poverty rate of 18.1% in 2021, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Nearly half of the state’s rural hospitals are in danger of closing. The health care crisis is at the forefront of the current election cycle and topped off Wednesday night’s debate. The candidates spent nearly 13 minutes of the one-hour debate discussing Medicaid and health care reform.  Democrats have hammered Reeves for refusing Medicaid expansion. Fox News asked Reeves his response to these attacks, and he said the state believes in work, not welfare. “I don’t believe that we should add 300,000 able-bodied adult Mississippians to the welfare rolls,” said Reeves. “I don’t think that’s good public policy. I don’t think it’s good public policy for a lot of reasons, one of which is it would not provide the financial windfall that Democrats claim that it would for our providers.” Presley’s platform included expanding Medicare. The Cook Political Report shifted the 2023 Mississippi governor’s race from “likely Republican” to “lean Republican” two weeks ago. Reeves won by just 5% in 2019, marking the most competitive governor’s race in the state since 2003. According to a poll conducted early last month by Magnolia Tribune/Mason-Dixon, 51% would vote for Reeves if the election “were held today,” and 43% would vote for Presley. The GOP governor secured his second term in a close contest that saw Reeves weather attacks over a massive corruption scandal that broke out while he served as lieutenant governor. Reeves has denied any involvement in the scandal that saw six members of the Mississippi Department of Human Services divert about $77 million in federal welfare money meant for residents in need to pet projects. Reeves ran a pair of TV ads accusing Presley of breaking the law by accepting money from a solar energy company under his purview as a public service commissioner. Presley called this ad a “bald faced lie” and called out Reeves’ ad during the debate.

The University of Michigan has reportedly sent information to the Big Ten claiming Rutgers, Ohio State and Purdue “engaged in communication about the Wolverines’ signals.” Prior to last year’s Big Ten championship game against Michigan, Purdue reportedly received offensive signals from OSU, while the New Jersey school allegedly sent defensive signals to the Boilermakers, accoring to ESPN. The new wrinkle in the case is not expected to affect any potential punishment for the Wolverines in their sign-stealing accusations. It also is unknown if these new allegations regarding Michigan’s Big Ten rivals violate NCAA rules or the conference’s sportsmanship policy. Michigan announced last week that Connor Stalions, the accused ringleader of an alleged sign-stealing scheme, resigned after earlier reports said he was fired.  It was revealed Oct. 18 the NCAA was investigating the football program for stealing signs. Since the investigation began, more damning evidence of Stalions’ alleged involvement has emerged. An unnamed former coach from college football’s Division III claimed Stalions gave him “a couple hundred dollars” for the recordings of the Wolverines’ future opponents, ESPN reported. The coach added that he received free tickets and shared the footage via an iPhone photo album.  SUPER BOWL CHAMP RIPS USC’S CALEB WILLIAMS FOR CRYING AFTER GAME: ‘COME ON, MAN’ Stalions was also alleged to be on the Central Michigan sideline when the team played Michigan State Sept. 1, wearing a bench credential that said “VB,” a visiting bench designation. This gives access for the credential holder to stand between the 20-yard lines, which is usually for players, coaches, team trainers and equipment staff.  It’s been reported Stalions purchased tickets to more than 30 games at 11 different Big Ten schools over the past three seasons, including this season. Michigan was not playing in any of the games for which Stalions bought tickets, sources told ESPN. The Big Ten sportsmanship policy states that the conference “expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.” Michigan beat Rutgers, 31-7, Sept. 23 and the Boilermakers, 41-13, Saturday. The Wolverines face the Buckeyes in Ann Arbor Nov. 26. Michigan has beaten Ohio State two years straight after losing each of the previous eight matchups.
