Voting begins in Argentina’s presidential runoff, may send Trump-admiring populist Milei into presidency

Voting begins in Argentina’s presidential runoff, may send Trump-admiring populist Milei into presidency

Voters in Argentina were heading to the polls Sunday in a presidential runoff election that will determine whether South America’s second-largest economy will take a rightward shift. Populist Javier Milei, an upstart candidate who got his start as a television talking head, has frequently been compared to former U.S. President Donald Trump. He faces Economy Minister Sergio Massa of the Peronist party, which has been a leading force in Argentine politics for decades. On Massa’s watch, inflation has soared to more than 140% and poverty has increased. Milei, a self-described anarcho-capitalist, proposes to slash the size of the state and rein in inflation, while Massa has warned people about the negative impacts of such policies. The highly polarizing election is forcing many to decide which of the two they consider to be the least bad option. ARGENTINA’S JAVIER MILEI COPIES TRUMP’S PLAYBOOK TO BECOME COUNTRY’S BIGGEST PRIMARY ELECTION VOTE-GETTER “Whatever happens in this election will be incredible,” said Lucas Romero, director of local political consultancy Synopsis. “It would be incredible for Massa to win in this economic context or for Milei to win facing a candidate as professional as Massa.” Voting stations opened at 8 a.m. (1100 GMT) and close 10 hours later. Voting is conducted with paper ballots, making the count unpredictable, but initial results were expected around three hours after polls close. Milei went from blasting the country’s “political caste” on TV to winning a lawmaker seat two years ago. The economist’s screeds resonated widely with Argentines angered by their struggle to make ends meet, particularly young men. “Money covers less and less each day. I’m a qualified individual, and my salary isn’t enough for anything,” Esteban Medina, a 26-year-old physical therapist from Ezeiza, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, told The Associated Press on the sidelines of a Milei rally earlier this week. Massa, as one of the most prominent figures in a deeply unpopular administration, was once seen as having little chance of victory. But he managed to mobilize the networks of his Peronist party and clinched a decisive first-place finish in the first round of voting. His campaign has cautioned Argentines that his libertarian opponent’s plan to eliminate key ministries and otherwise sharply curtail the state would threaten public services, including health and education, and welfare programs many rely on. Massa has also drawn attention to his opponent’s often aggressive rhetoric and has openly questioned his mental acuity; ahead of the first round, Milei sometimes carried a revving chainsaw at rallies. FORMER ROCKER NICKNAMED ‘ARGENTINE TRUMP’ GAINS ELECTION STEAM WITH ANTI-SOCIALIST MESSAGE Massa’s “only chance to win this election when people want change … is to make this election a referendum on whether Milei is fit to be president or not,” said Ana Iparraguirre, partner at pollster GBAO Strategies. Milei has accused Massa and his allies of running a “campaign of fear” and he has walked back some of his most controversial proposals, such as loosening gun control. In his final campaign ad, Milei looks at the camera and assures voters he has no plans to privatize education or health care. Most pre-election polls, which have been notoriously wrong at every step of this year’s campaign, show a statistical tie between the two candidates. Voters for first-round candidates who didn’t make the runoff will be key. Patricia Bullrich, who placed third, has endorsed Milei. Javier Rojas, a 36-year-old pediatrician who voted for Bullrich in October, told The Associated Press he’s leaning toward Milei, then added: “Well, to be honest, it’s more of a vote against the other side than anything else.” Underscoring the bitter division this campaign has brought to the fore, Milei received both jeers and cheers on Friday night at the legendary Colón Theater in Buenos Aires. The vote takes place amid Milei’s allegations of possible electoral fraud, reminiscent of those from Trump and former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Without providing evidence, Milei claimed that the first round of the presidential election was plagued by irregularities that affected the result. Experts say such irregularities cannot swing an election, and that his assertions are partly aimed at firing up his base and motivating his supporters to become monitors of voting stations. Such claims spread widely on social media and, at Milei’s rally in Ezeiza earlier this week, all those interviewed told the AP they were concerned about the integrity of the vote. “You don’t need to show statistically significant errors,” Fernanda Buril, of the Washington-based International Foundation for Electoral Systems, said in an e-mail. “If you draw enough attention to one problem in one polling station which likely doesn’t affect the results in any meaningful way, people are likely to overestimate the frequency and impact of that and other problems in the elections more generally.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs had many high-profile relationships, from Cassie and Jennifer Lopez to the late Kim Porter

Sean 'Diddy' Combs had many high-profile relationships, from Cassie and Jennifer Lopez to the late Kim Porter

Although Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and his ex-girlfriend Cassie reached a quick settlement agreement after the “Me And U” singer accused the media mogul of abuse, his lawyer Benjamin Brafman is adamant that this is not an “admission of wrongdoing.” “Just so we’re clear, a decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing,” he shared in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Mr. Combs‘ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best.” Although his relationship with Cassie lasted nearly a decade, the rapper has had several additional high-profile relationships. SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS SETTLES LAWSUIT ONE DAY AFTER EX-GIRLFRIEND CASSIE’S ALLEGATIONS OF YEARS OF RAPE We’re taking a look at several of Combs’ other relationships, including those with Jennifer Lopez and the mother of three of his seven children, Kim Porter.  The first of four women Combs would have children with, fashion designer Misa Hylton, started dating the rapper in the 1990s, welcoming their son Justin in 1993. They split soon after and maintained a favorable relationship, until 2023, when Justin was charged with a DUI. In since-expired Instagram stories, Hylton wrote. “I’m not protecting no one anymore, just my son.” “The statement ‘a fish rots from the head down’ means that, in addition to being a major contributing [factor] in a family or organization’s success, leadership is also the root cause of its failure and demise,” she added. Hylton and Combs have had positive interactions on social media since. LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? The couple welcomed their first child together, son Christian, in 1998. They eventually split and continued to have an on-off relationship.  Porter became pregnant with the couple’s twin daughters in 2006, but found out that Combs had fathered another child with his friend Sarah Chapman while he was with her. In an interview given to Essence magazine in 2007, Porter explained that Puff’s cheating was not the only thing that destroyed their relationship.  “He’s not the first man who’s cheated,” she said. “He’s not the first man who’s had a baby outside of his relationship. He’s not the originator of this. But at this point in my life – I have girls now – it’s a different program.” “I would have preferred to find out from him because that’s a man,” she said of learning about his fling with Chapman through her own friend. “I know it’s hard for anyone to say to their significant other, ‘I’ve gotten into some s— and I got a baby on the way.’ But men do get caught up in things; I’m not naive to that. Still, there’s a right and a wrong way to handle it. Because, most of all, we were friends. Even if I couldn’t have understood it as a woman, I would have understood it as a friend.” Even after the infidelity, Porter remained friends with Diddy. She unexpectedly passed away in 2018 from lobar pneumonia, devastating Combs and his children. During one of his breaks with Porter, Combs started his relationship with Jennifer Lopez. He and the singer dated from 1999 until 2001, but ultimately split due to his infidelity. They have remained friendly throughout the years, often posing for photos together at mutual events and speaking highly of one another.  While dating Lopez, Diddy was acquitted on charges of bribery and illegal weapons. The case surrounded an incident at a nightclub where both Combs and Lopez were present. JENNIFER LOPEZ DANCES WITH EX-BOFYRIEND SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS FOR CORONAVIRUS FUNDRAISER The third woman Diddy welcomed a child with was Chapman, his longtime friend. The two never dated, welcoming their daughter Chance while the rapper was in a relationship with Porter. As of September 2023, the two remained close, with Combs posting a birthday tribute to Chapman on Instagram. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER After ‘Puff’ and Porter were finally finished in 2007, the “Last Night” singer began his relationship with Cassie, who was signed to his label Bad Boy Records. The two had a tumultuous relationship, going their separate ways in 2018.  Last week Cassie, whose legal name is Cassandra Ventura, filed a lawsuit against Diddy, claiming that the rapper had abused and raped her over the course of their complicated relationship. Per the suit, Cassie and Combs met when she was 19 and he was 37, but did not begin a romantic relationship until years later.  The suit detailed Combs’ alleged “uncontrollable rage,” and how he allegedly beat his girlfriend on multiple occasions. At the time of the filing, his lawyer issued a statement saying in part, “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations. Ms. Ventura’s demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail. Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combs’ reputation, and seeking a pay day.” The lawsuit was settled a day after it was filed, with Cassie sharing, “I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control. I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.”  Douglas Wigdor, counsel for Cassie, shared, “I am very proud of Ms. Ventura for having the strength to go public with her lawsuit. She ought to be commended for doing so.” Combs added, “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.” Diddy and rapper Yung Miami sparked dating rumors in 2021, but confirmed the status of their relationship in 2022 when Combs appeared on her podcast. The duo said they were dating and enjoying their time together, which included vacations.  She later elaborated on the relationship, telling XXL Magazine, “We are dating. We single, but we’re dating. People don’t know what dating means. He’s single, I’m single, but we’re dating. That’s what I mean when I say we go together. When we’re together, we’re together. We’re having the time of our lives, but we’re still single.” They also attended the 2023 Met Gala together. Dana Tran is the most recent woman with whom Diddy welcomed a child. Combs surprised the world in October 2022 when he announced the arrival of his seventh child, daughter Love. Diddy has not disclosed the nature of his relationship with Tran, although they both operate a joint Instagram account for their daughter.

Macron’s wife admits ‘head was a mess’ when she dated her high school aged ex-pupil

Macron’s wife admits ‘head was a mess’ when she dated her high school aged ex-pupil

French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife Brigitte Macron revealed her relationship anxieties from the early days of dating the future French leader – including concerns he would “fall in love with someone his age” after moving schools.  “My head was in a mess,” Brigitte Macron said during a rare interview, given to the outlet Paris Match, and reported in the Daily Telegraph. “For me, such a young boy was crippling.” “Emmanuel had to leave for Paris,” Macron revealed. “I told myself that he would fall in love with someone his [own] age. It didn’t happen.” The couple’s age difference – she, 70, and he, 45 – has remained a hot topic for the couple: Macron addressed the difference during an interview in 2017 with Elle France, telling the outlet “there are times in your life where you need to make vital choices.”  FRENCH PRESIDENT SEEKS TO ENSHRINE ABORTION IN COUNTRY’S CONSTITUTION “Of course, we have breakfast together, me and my wrinkles, him with his youth, but it’s like that,” Macron told Elle at the time. “If I did not make that choice, I would have missed out on my life. I had a lot of happiness with my children and, at the same time, felt I had to live ‘this love’ as Prevert used to say, to be fully happy.” The couple met while Brigitte taught drama at the Catholic Providence school in Amiens. Her daughter was Emmanuel’s classmate.  The newest interview, translated and reported by the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph, reveals that Macron suffered significant anxiety over the age difference, which eventually caused a scandal when it came to light that she, a then-40-year-old teacher had engaged in a relationship with her 15-year-old pupil, Emmanuel.  EX-FINLAND PM WHO ENT VIRAL FOR RAUNCHY DANCE VIDEO MAKES FLASHY NEW CAREER MOVE The French age of consent is 15, which was not enforced except in cases of sexual violence until the country passed the age into law, according to Politico’s European outlet.  Emmanuel’s parents immediately decided to send him to a boarding school in Paris for the remainder of his studies, but that did not dissuade him from his relationship with Brigitte. After Emmanuel left for Paris, Brigitte stopped teaching drama and instead headed up Latin classes. She was married but estranged from her husband for years. She divorced him shortly before marrying Emmanuel.  ‘CATCH ME IF YOU CAN’-STYLE CONMAN EXPOSED AFTER DECADES OF BIZARRE LIES, SCAMS: REPORT She also worried about how the relationship with the teenager would affect her children, who are the same age as Emmanuel. Brigitte said she waited a decade before pulling the trigger to make sure that the couple’s marriage would not deeply upset the rest of her family.  “I took time so I would not wreck their lives,” Brigitte told Match. “That lasted 10 years, the time to put them on the rails. You can imagine what they were hearing. But I didn’t want to miss out on my life.” When the couple married in 2007, when Emmanuel was 29, he told his three stepchildren, “Thanks for accepting us, a not-quite-normal couple.”  He won election as president of France at the age of 39 – the youngest-ever president for the country and roughly the same age his wife was when they met, according to The Independent.

Charlotte small businesses fed up with repeated break-ins: ‘Nature of doing business’

Charlotte small businesses fed up with repeated break-ins: 'Nature of doing business'

Property crime ticked up nationwide in 2022, according to FBI crime statistics released last month, and it is hurting businesses. One small business owner in Charlotte, North Carolina’s arts district NoDa told Fox News his shop has been broken into for the eighth time recently. NoDa Bodega owner Bryan Moore described the neighborhood as “an appealing place to live” with “a lot of I think, more affluent people.” However, Moore said the repairs due to crime are taking a chunk out of his bottom line. FBI SAYS CAR THEFTS SURGE “You comin’ in getting a hundred bucks, and we’re having to spend $500 or $600 to replace a door,” Moore told Fox News. The owner of a nearby wine bar and restaurant, Artisan’s Palate, said her establishment has been targeted four times this year. AL INMATE FACING EXECUTION FOR 1993 MURDER MAKES URGENT PLEA TO YOUNG PEOPLE The owner, who did not want to appear on camera, told Fox News she is “fed up” after replacing another damaged door and said she is not sure what else to do to prevent the break-ins. The NoDa neighborhood has new restaurants, bars and condos popping up everywhere, and NoDa’s business association said they have increased patrols and are urging people to report any lights out in the area.  Criminologist from North Carolina Wesleyan University Jay Fortenbery said property crime is typically related to poverty and unemployment.  “They make a rational choice depending on the weight of the crime, the punishment versus the rewards,” Fortenbery said. “Are the rewards more beneficial than the punishments right now and what are the odds of getting caught?” SECURITY COMPANY FIGHTS CRIME THROUGH AI Moore does not see an end in sight to the criminal activity. “At this point, it’s just become the nature of doing business,” he said. Missing Florida woman found dead in storage unit, deputies say

Missing Florida woman found dead in storage unit, deputies say

A Florida woman who was last seen more than a week ago has been found dead in a storage unit, deputies say. It is believed Shakeira Rucker, a 37-year-old mother of four from Winter Springs, was last seen Nov. 11. Her body was found Saturday, turning her disappearance into a homicide investigation, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies responded to the Self Storage at 2400 Wiggins Road in Apopka around 5 p.m. after someone complained about an odor, FOX 35 Orlando reports.  “Shakeira’s family was notified this evening,” OCSO said in a Facebook post. “We grieve with them [and] our detectives are committed to bringing them justice in this case.” SECOND ARREST MADE IN HALLOWEEN WEEKEND SHOOTING IN TAMPA THAT KILLED 2, INJURED 16 OTHERS Rucker was last seen leaving her home with her estranged husband, identified as Cory Hill by FOX 35. Hill was quickly named a person of interest when she vanished.  The two were seen on surveillance video leaving a Polk County restaurant together the night she was reported missing, investigators said. Hill is currently in the Orange County jail, according to online records. He faces unrelated attempted murder charges, but reportedly refused to talk to deputies or police about Rucker’s disappearance. He has not been named a suspect or charged in Rucker’s death. 2 MEN RESCUED FROM SINKING BOAT IN FLORIDA WATERWAY AMID HARSH WEATHER: POLICE “I just want my mom to come back,” 16-year-old Mikayla Rucker previously told FOX 35. “It’s hard, her not being here, because I’m always with her. It’s like I can’t live without her. She’s all I know.” Crimeline had offered a $5,000 reward for help finding out what happened to Rucker.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina is expected to discuss the case during a press conference Sunday.

NFL Week 11 preview: Chiefs-Eagles headline schedule as eyes turn back to Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift

NFL Week 11 preview: Chiefs-Eagles headline schedule as eyes turn back to Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift

All eyes will be on Monday’s Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl rematch for more than just a glimpse of two of the best teams in the NFL. Rumors have swirled that Travis Kelce’s parents will be meeting Taylor Swift’s parents when the two teams meet at Arrowhead Stadium.  The relationship between the star tight end and the pop star has gotten hot and heavy in the last week with Kelce traveling to Buenos Aires on his bye week to support Swift on her tour. Aside from all the off-field stuff, the game should be good too. It’s the ninth matchup of teams that competed in the previous Super Bowl. That last was in 2017 when the Atlanta Falcons played the New England Patriots. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Philadelphia enters the game 8-1, and Kansas City is 7-2. In their 2023 Super Bowl matchup, Patrick Mahomes led a come-from-behind victory against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles. Mahomes has at least two touchdown passes in six games this season, tied for second-most in the league. Mahomes also has 64 games with at least two touchdown passes. One more on Monday will tie Dan Marino for the most all-time with 65. There’s a lot to take in this week, but it’s not all about Swift, Kelce, the Chiefs and the Eagles. The Cowboys’ offense has been on a tear in recent weeks. It put up 49 points on the lowly New York Giants defense, 23 points in a tough loss to the Eagles and 43 points against the Los Angeles Rams. A large part of that production can be attributed to the budding connection between Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. While Lamb clarified some of his comments about where he stands among other receivers in the NFL, the numbers don’t lie. Lamb set an NFL record with three straight games of at least 10 catches and 150 receiving yards and pointed to how he’s jelled with Prescott and the rest of the team. FROM OUTKICK: DESHAUN WATSON EXPERIENCE WITH CLEVELAND BROWNS HITS ANOTHER SNAG AND THIS ONE’S BIG “We’ve been together for four years now, and we’ve always got spurts of each other,” Lamb said, via the team’s website. “But now we’re kind of putting a season together, and we’re starting to get hot at the same time, both of us. It’s amazing for the offense and amazing for us. We just gotta keep it moving and keep adding in our pieces.” Should Prescott throw for at least 300 yards and three touchdown passes Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, he will become the fourth player in league history to hit the mark in four consecutive games in a season. The brutal battle in the AFC North continues. The Baltimore Ravens topped the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday night to pad its lead in the division. On Sunday, the attention will turn to the matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns took a huge hit when they lost Deshaun Watson for the remainder of the season with a fracture in his throwing shoulder. Cleveland will turn to P.J. Walker to Dorian Thompson-Robinson in his absence and will rely on its defense to stay in games.  The Steelers’ defense will look to rattle the Browns’ quarterback, and it will be up to Kenny Pickett and the 26th-ranked scoring offense to put up points.  If there was ever a time for the New York Jets to take advantage of some drama, it would be against the Buffalo Bills Sunday. After Buffalo’s special teams cost it a game against the Denver Broncos, Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey was fired.  RAVENS’ MARK ANDREWS SUFFERS ‘VERY SERIOUS ANKLE INJURY,’ SEASON LIKELY OVER Bills quarterback Josh Allen leads the NFL in touchdown passes (19) and interceptions (11), but it didn’t seem to matter this week. With all of that happening, the Jets could use it as an advantage for a potential upset Sunday afternoon. Buffalo will look to avenge its Monday night loss in Week 1. The Bills lost in overtime on another special teams mishap. A win for either team would help in the playoff hunt, and a Jets win would give the team hope as rumors swirl about an Aaron Rodgers comeback bid. Josh Dobbs has kept the Vikings’ winning streak and hopes for a playoff bid alive. He put together wins over the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints in consecutive weeks to extend the Vikings’ winning streak to five games. Now, comes a tougher test — the Denver Broncos on the road. While the Broncos rank last in the league in points and yards allowed, they held the Bills to 22 points and the Chiefs to nine two weeks before that. Fall hosting tips from Half Baked Harvest include keeping dinner simple, cozy and inviting

Fall hosting tips from Half Baked Harvest include keeping dinner simple, cozy and inviting

With the 2023 fall season well underway, many people are looking for cool new insights for hosting friends and family this fall and winter.  Fox News Digital talked to bestselling author and popular chef Tieghan Gerard of Half Baked Harvest for her best tips for hosting a gathering.  Her first hosting tip for this season is simple: Don’t stress. HOME CHEF ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH SOCIAL MEDIA STAR, COOKBOOK AUTHOR HALF BAKED HARVEST “Don’t try to create a menu that is so intensive or anything like that — take help from the store,” said the Colorado-based Gerard. The uber-popular chef has over 5.3 million Instagram followers and is known for sharing her best recipes and kitchen tips with others. Gerard said that buying pre-cut or pre-made food from the store to help ease a bit of the hosting load is totally acceptable.  Prep recipes ahead of time if they require lots of effort, she said — but don’t pick difficult recipes if you don’t have to, she recommended. REVEALED! HOTEL CHEFS FROM ACROSS US SHARE EXPERT FOODIE ADVICE FOR AT-HOME ENTERTAINING “Don’t pick recipes that you have to be sitting there, frying on the stove — choose things that are simple to create,” she said.  Gerard also recommended exactly that: Pick simple dishes that don’t require lots of time to make. She said a simple appetizer or cocktail — even just setting out a bottle of everyone’s favorite wine — can be enough.  “Really just simplify the process of everything,” she recommended.  CELEBRITY CHEF SHARES HOSTING TIPS, TRICKS FOR GAME DAY With wisdom gained from hosting and cooking for her family of 10, she recommended against doing an extravagant, multiple-course dinner.  Instead, try an approach of “here’s your salad, here’s your main dish, here’s your dessert,” she said.  She also said that not making dessert from scratch is totally acceptable. Rather, buying a cake from a favorite bakery or cookies from a favorite shop is totally fine.  “I think the most important thing about entertaining is when your guests are experiencing your dinner, and they feel welcomed,” she said.  THANKSGIVING QUIZ! HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE FACTS ABOUT THE ANNUAL TURKEY DAY? She loves when her guests feel relaxed and invited into her home, she said — not as if they can’t touch the tablescape or need to be on their best behavior at all times.  “Light the candles, light the fire — make it warm, cozy, welcoming and inviting,” she said.  And when it comes to gifts for the host, Gerard said you can never go wrong with a candle.  “I think that candles can make your environment feel so welcoming and inviting — and people don’t realize that you can really create this environment of warm and cozy with a single scent,” she said.  HOW TO THROW YOUR OWN WINE TASTING PARTY Gerard also recommended bringing flowers — she said they’re underrated as a host gift.  Overall, she suggested bringing whatever the host would most likely use and appreciate, noting that nobody “really wants a knickknack.” “If they love to make cocktails, find them really pretty cocktail glasses,” she said. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER “Find beautiful things that maybe they wouldn’t get for themselves but can really enjoy in their life.”  Gerard recently announced a collaboration with Home Chef, which will feature seven of her most popular dishes from her food blog, “Half Baked Harvest.” Gerard told Fox News Digital she was excited to bring her recipes into more homes around the country and noted the partnership was in the works for quite some time.  For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle.

Congress probes Princeton University over professor’s alleged ties to Iranian regime

Congress probes Princeton University over professor's alleged ties to Iranian regime

EXCLUSIVE: The influential House Committee of Education and the Workforce on Thursday launched an investigation into the role of a former Iranian official, Seyed Hossein Mousavian, at Princeton University. It is claimed that he is suspected of advancing the interests of Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism. Twelve Republican committee members sent a letter to Princeton President Christopher L. Eisgruber with detailed questions about the influence of the Islamic Republic of Iran via Mousavian’s activities on the campus of the New Jersey-based Ivy League institution. Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., who along with Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., spearheaded the letter to Princeton, told Fox News Digital “Higher education has bowed down to the radical left and enemies of America for far too long, and the mere fact that a former member of the Iranian regime is given a platform at Princeton is proof.” “Let’s be clear. The Islamic Republic of Iran is not our friend. They are a major adversary, a state sponsor of terrorism, and a destabilizing force in the Middle East that sympathizes with Hamas. We cannot let a radical Iranian manipulate young American minds, and it’s well past time we do something about it,” McClain charged. OUTRAGE AS IRAN PRESIDENT PREPARES TO ADDRESS UN: ‘WANTS TO KILL AMERICAN CITIZENS’  Mousavian’s conduct raised alarm bells from the NGO United Against a Nuclear Iran after he attended the funeral of the U.S. and E.U.-designated Iranian regime terrorist Qassem Soleimani in Tehran in 2020 and appeared in a tribute to Soleimani in a 2022 Iran TV program. Mousavian said on Iranian TV that an American told him, “The wife of Brian Hook could not sleep for a few nights now” because she feared her husband, Hook, the former U.S. Iran envoy at the time of the assassination of Soleimani, would face retaliation from Tehran.” “The 10-second clip from my two-hour interview with Iranian TV was taken out of context,” Mousavian told Fox News Digital. “Iranian TV never broadcast the interview with me. It just broadcasted the 7-10 seconds about Brian Hook’s family. I have always opposed assassinations and threats of assassination against both Iranian and U.S. nationals”. The U.S. military assassinated Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp, in January 2020 in Iraq for his alleged role in overseeing the murders of more than 600 American military personnel in the Middle East. “When President Trump had General Soleimani assassinated, I was in Iran to visit my mother who was hospitalized,” Mousavian told Fox News Digital. “As a researcher, I attended the funeral of General Soleimani to see the reaction to this assassination. Seven million attended Soleimani’s funeral in Tehran and 20 million in other cities in total. This was clear evidence of General Soleimani’s popularity.” When Fox News Digital asked Mousavian if he agrees with the U.S. government’s classification of the IRGC, including its Qods force, as a foreign terrorist organization, Mousavian said, “The U.S. CENTCOM [United States Central Command] and the Iranian Qods Army have designated each other as terrorist organization. I think rather than these endless accusations, they need to sit and talk and resolve their differences through peaceful means.” Fox News Digital recently reported on the role of the IRGC and Soleimani in the initial planning to help the terrorist movement Hamas massacre about 1,200 people, including Americans, Oct. 7 in southern Israel.  “Individuals who are aligned with malignant regimes continue to permeate America’s postsecondary education system,” Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., who chairs the Education and the Workforce Committee, said. “Seyed Hossein Mousavian’s refuge at Princeton for 15 years is a textbook example. These individuals pose a grave threat to America’s national security posture, and they are left to fester without any intervening action or diligent oversight efforts. It’s time for some much-needed sunlight to expose the blatant corruption and influence peddling that has become far too commonplace.”  Mousavian specializes in Middle East security and nuclear policy. OBERLIN COLLEGE’S ‘PROFESSOR OF PEACE’ ENDORSED FATWA TO MURDER SALMAN RUSHDIE To the surprise of some in Congress, STRATCOM hosted Mousavian as a speaker in August 2023. According to the congressional letter, Mousavian’s appearance at the STRATCOM symposium “concerned members of the Armed Services Committees of both the House and the Senate. Additionally, aspects of this issue trouble us as members of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.” When asked if STRATCOM responded to concerns about Mousavian, Joshua Kelsey, chief of media operations for United States Strategic Command, told Fox News Digital, “I can confirm Gen. Cotton responded to the Congressional letter on September 27, which is official correspondence since it went directly to Congress … We have nothing additional to add to the response.” Mousavian told Fox News Digital, “My talk at the U.S. Strategic Command was all about peace in the Middle East and why the U.S. should avoid wars and focus on peace and cooperation.”  During Mousavian’s tenure as Iran’s ambassador to Germany, he was in charge of the embassy that a German court found “served as the ‘headquarters’ for the planning of the 1992 assassination of four Iranian dissidents at the Greek restaurant Mykonos in Berlin.” “This accusation is a big lie,” the former ambassador said. “The 398-page verdict is published, and everyone can have access to it. The Berlin court verdict does not contain any direct or indirect allegations against me. German authorities never forced me to leave the country. … I have been a frequent visitor to Germany.” DOZENS DEAD, OVER 1,200 ARRESTED IN IRAN AS REGIME WARNS OF ‘DECISIVE’ CRACKDOWN According to media reports, after a Berlin court ruled in 1997 that Iran’s regime ordered the assassination of the four Iranian dissidents, three of whom were Kurds, the German government requested that Mousavian be removed from his post. “My work is just an academic work, and I have nothing to do with the U.S. or the Iranian or any other government,” Mousavian told Fox News Digital. “I was arrested in 2007 and ultimately deprived from diplomatic work. So, I retired from the Iranian foreign ministry 13 years ago and, since then, I have not been engaged with any government, including the government of Iran.”  Even though he was arrested by the regime, the congressional letter cast doubt on Mousavian’s alleged separation from it.  “Despite his supposed disaffiliation with the Iranian government, Mousavian’s ability to travel freely to the United States and act as an unofficial government representative while discussing U.S.-Iranian ties has left his relationship with the Iranian government unclear,” the Republicans lawmakers’ letter said. “Other Iranian regime officials confirm that, while Mousavian left Iran, he did not cease to serve the regime. In a 2016 interview, then-Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that he did not believe ‘the accusations of espionage against him [Mousavian],’ that Mousavian ‘continued to, and continues to, work hard,’ for Iran, and that he ‘believes in, and is completely tied to, the system of the Islamic Republic and [sic] Iran.”’ “Campus antisemitism has reached crisis proportions,” Rep. Banks told Fox News Digital. “Iran is a leading state booster of antisemitism as well as the leading state sponsor of terror, and House Republicans have a duty to investigate malign Iranian influence at U.S. universities.”  Banks continued, “Mr. Mousavian is a longtime Iranian propagandist who only knows how to teach anti-Israel, antisemitic lies. Princeton should immediately cut ties with Mr. Mousavian and the other Iran apologist on their payroll, Rob Malley, Joe Biden’s disgraced former envoy who is currently under federal investigation for mishandling classified information.”  Mousavian countered that Banks has said “Mousavian helped Iran to make nuclear bomb! He still doesn’t know that Iran doesn’t have nuclear bomb. His other statements are like that.” While a July unclassified U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence report said “Iran is not currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities that would be necessary to produce a testable nuclear device,” a batch of public European intelligence reports from 2023 say Iran’s regime has an active atomic weapons program.  Princeton University did not respond to numerous Fox News Digital email and telephone press queries.

Salmonella-infected cantaloupes leave dozens sick in 15 states: health officials

Salmonella-infected cantaloupes leave dozens sick in 15 states: health officials

Dozens of people across 15 states have become sick after contracting salmonella from cantaloupes included in a recent recall, according to U.S. health officials. At least 43 people in 15 states have been infected in the salmonella outbreak, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday. Seventeen of those people have been hospitalized. Several brands of whole and pre-cut cantaloupes and pre-cut fruit have been recalled in the past week after suspicions they were possibly contaminated. This includes Malichita brand whole cantaloupes sold between Oct. 16 and Oct. 23, Vinyard brand pre-cut cantaloupe sold between Oct. 30 and Nov. 10 and ALDI whole cantaloupe and pre-cut fruit products with best-by dates between Oct. 27 and Oct. 31. TRUFRESH RECALLS CANTALOUPES DISTRIBUTED TO NUMEROUS US STATES, CANADA OVER POSSIBLE SALMONELLA CONTAMINATION Consumers who have the recalled fruits are urged to throw them away immediately and investigators are working to identify any additional cantaloupe products that may be contaminated.  Canadian officials are probing an outbreak involving the same strain of salmonella discovered in Malichita brand cantaloupe. AS EYE DROP RECALLS CONTINUE, HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO PROTECT YOUR VISION The number of people sick in the outbreak is likely much higher than reported so far and states without known infections could be impacted. Symptoms can take days to show, and it typically takes three to four weeks to determine if a case is connected to the outbreak. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. The illnesses typically last four to seven days. Salmonella can cause serious, and sometimes fatal, infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Auburn stunned by New Mexico State in one of the largest upsets this season

Auburn stunned by New Mexico State in one of the largest upsets this season

Auburn entered Saturday’s game against New Mexico State as 25.5-point favorites – yet lost by three touchdowns. The Tigers fell to New Mexico State, 31-10, on Saturday, marking the team’s first loss at home to a nonconference opponent since 2007. It was the second-largest upset, based on point spread, of the season, falling just short of Texas State’s outright win over Baylor, a 26.5-point favorite heading into that game, according to ESPN. It was also the Aggies’ first victory against an SEC school in program history. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM To make matters worse, Auburn also paid New Mexico State $1.7 million for the meeting, a common occurrence between power-five and lower-level schools. “How about that, $1.7 million and we won the game,” head coach Jerry Kill said after the game. New Mexico State (9-3) outscored the Tigers (6-5) 21-3 in the second half, but Auburn never led at any point in the game since the Aggies scored a touchdown on their very first drive.  The Aggies outgained Auburn 414-213 and held onto the ball for nearly 39 minutes. MICHIGAN BECOMES FIRST PROGRAM TO WIN 1,000 GAMES, REMAINS UNDEFEATED AS JIM HARBAUGH’S BAN CONTINUES “You don’t get many opportunities like this,” Kill said. “We’re playing a Southeastern Conference football team and we really dominated the football game most of the time.” The Aggies had lost their previous 27 games against SEC teams. In the fourth quarter, New Mexico converted a fake punt on fourth down and later found the end zone on fourth down, completing a 16-play, 83-yard drive. Diego Pavia completed 19 of 28 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns, one each to Kordell David, Eli Stowers and Star Thomas, who combined with Makhilyn Young for 119 rushing yards on 13 carries. New Mexico State has now won seven straight, clinching a spot in the C-USA title game against Liberty, but first, they’ll host Jacksonville State next Saturday to end the regular season. Perhaps Auburn may have been looking ahead to next week when they’ll host the Iron Bowl against No. 8 Alabama. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Factors that may transform your hair into silver strands

Factors that may transform your hair into silver strands

Hair turning gray is a natural phenomenon that accompanies aging for most people. It is a visible sign of getting older, but have you ever wondered what really causes this transformation? When hair turns gray, it is due to the gradual decline of pigment cells within the hair follicles. The natural color of our hair comes from melanin, a pigment produced by specialized cells called melanocytes. These cells infuse melanin into the hair cells, determining its natural hue, whether it is blonde, brown, black or red. SECRETS OF GRAY HAIR REVEALED: SCIENTISTS MAY HAVE FIGURED OUT WHY OUR HAIR DOES THIS As we grow older, melanocytes begin producing less melanin, causing a gradual decrease in hair pigment. Over time, certain hair follicles cease melanin production entirely, leading to the growth of gray or white hair.  Here’s more to know about this complex process and the combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that affect it: Your genetic makeup significantly influences when your hair might start graying. The timing and pace of this process are largely dictated by genetics. If premature graying runs in your family, there is a higher chance that you might also experience early graying. Certain genes are responsible for regulating the production of melanin. Variations in these genes can impact the quantity of melanin produced by your body and the rate at which pigment cells in hair follicles decline as time passes. Ethnicity also plays a part in this genetic predisposition. For instance, individuals with lighter skin tones often experience graying earlier than those with darker skin tones due to differences in melanin production. While genetics set the stage for when your hair might start to turn gray, other factors like stress, smoking, diet and environmental influences can accelerate the process. However, the genetic blueprint is the primary determinant of your hair graying. Stress does not directly cause hair to turn gray, but there is a correlation between chronic stress and premature graying.  The exact mechanism is not fully understood, but prolonged stress can affect the body in various ways, including potentially accelerating the graying process. When you are stressed, your body releases hormones like cortisol, which, when produced in excess over a prolonged period, can impact the body’s normal functions. There is some indication from studies that stress could disrupt the melanocyte stem cells, which play a role in producing hair pigment. This disruption might potentially reduce melanin production, possibly triggering premature graying. While stress is not the sole cause of gray hair, managing stress levels through relaxation techniques, mindfulness practices and a healthy lifestyle might indirectly help slow down graying for some individuals. Smoking has been linked to premature aging, including the premature graying of hair. Chemicals that are present in cigarettes, and the toxins they release can have damaging effects on the body, including the hair follicles and the production of melanin. CELEBS EMBRACE GRAY HAIR IN 2020: ‘EMBRACING YOUR SILVER LOCKS IS ALWAYS A RITE OF PASSAGE’ The harmful components in tobacco smoke can potentially cause oxidative stress, which damages cells. This oxidative stress can disrupt the normal functioning of melanocytes, leading to a decrease in melanin production and an earlier onset of gray hair. Nutritional deficiencies can potentially contribute to premature graying of hair, although the direct causal relationship between specific deficiencies and gray hair is not always straightforward. Maintaining a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients is crucial for overall health, including the health of your hair. Certain nutrients play essential roles in the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for hair color. For instance, deficiencies in vitamins like B12, D and E, and minerals like copper and iron can impact melanin production and overall hair health. When the body lacks these vital nutrients, it might affect the health and function of the hair follicles, potentially leading to changes in hair color. However, it is important to note that while nutritional deficiencies can impact hair health, genetics, age and other factors also significantly contribute to the natural graying process. Nutritional deficiencies might accelerate the process in some cases, but they might not be the sole cause of gray hair.  Certain medical conditions often impact the body’s overall health and can affect hair pigmentation as a result. Some of these conditions include: Vitiligo: A skin condition where patches of skin lose their melanocytes, resulting in white patches. Sometimes, vitiligo can also affect hair, causing premature graying or whitening of hair in affected areas. Autoimmune disorders: Certain autoimmune conditions can affect the body’s immune response, leading to damage to melanocytes or interfering with the production of melanin.  Thyroid disorders: Changes in thyroid hormone levels, particularly hypothyroidism, can impact various bodily functions, including hair health.  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER  While these medical conditions can contribute to premature graying, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment. Addressing the underlying medical condition might help manage or slow down the progression of premature graying in some cases. Pollutants such as vehicle emissions, industrial pollutants, heavy metals and certain chemicals can generate oxidative stress in the body, which can damage the melanocytes. Prolonged exposure to pollutants can interfere with the cells’ ability to produce melanin. As a result, hair might turn gray prematurely or lose its natural pigment. Minimizing exposure to pollutants through lifestyle changes, reducing exposure to cigarette smoke and living in less polluted environments might help support overall hair health and potentially slow down premature graying. Interestingly, hair does not actually “turn” gray; it grows that way from the root.  So, when you notice gray hairs, it is because new hair follicles are producing hair without pigment. Despite the popular belief that plucking one gray hair will cause several more to grow in its place, that is a myth. Plucking a gray hair will not make more grow back in its place, but it is best to leave them alone as constant plucking can damage hair follicles. While there is no scientifically proven way to reverse gray hair permanently, some lifestyle changes or treatments like hair dyes, supplements or specific hair care routines might help slow down or temporarily disguise the graying process. Understanding why hair turns gray is a fascinating dive into the complexities of the human body’s aging process. This is a natural part of life that many people experience, serving as a visible reminder of the passage of time and the uniqueness of each individual’s genetic makeup.  For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle.

Appalachian State ruins James Madison’s undefeated season, further diminishing bowl hopes

Appalachian State ruins James Madison’s undefeated season, further diminishing bowl hopes

The James Madison Dukes entered Saturday’s game against Appalachian State with a 10-0 record. But, the No. 18 team in the AP Top 25 poll suffered their first lost of the year.  The Dukes are currently in the mandatory two-year transition period after making the jump from the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level to the highest level of college football, the FBS.  The school has sought waiver approval, which would grant full bowl eligibility. But those requests have been denied. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM James Madison was hoping to improve its record to 11-0 on Saturday. The team jumped ahead in overtime courtesy of a 25-yard field goal. A video review confirmed that Appalachian State’s Kaedin Robinson did get the football across the goal line to secure the Duke 26-23 win. NCAA REJECTS JAMES MADISON FOOTBALL’S POSTSEASON ELIGIBILITY WAIVER REQUEST: REPORTS James Madison has not been included in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s weekly rankings since the team is not bowl eligible. The team is also not allowed to play in the conference championship. The Dukes finished last season with an 8-3 record. Last month, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares wrote the NCAA a letter pleading the school’s case. He also hired a law firm that is arguing for JMU’s inclusion in bowl consideration based on the Dukes’ record, national ranking and success in its two-year process of reclassifying from the FCS to the FBS. Miyares is a James Madison alum. Teams have to win six games in order to be bowl eligible. There are currently 41 bowl games scheduled for the end of the season, which would put 82 teams up against each other. But, there will likely be a shortage of teams with enough wins to qualify for all the bowls this year. If there are bowl game vacancies, James Madison will likely be one of the schools at the top of the list to fill an empty spot. However, the Dukes were hoping to finish the year with an unblemished record as they were seeking consideration for a New Year’s Six bowl game. The Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl are the FBS bowl games that make up the New Year’s Six bowls.  FROM OUTKICK: UCF PULLS WHAT WAS ALMOST A PERFECT FAKE FIELD GOAL AGAINST TEXAS TECH Robinson finished Saturday’s game with four catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Appalachian State quarterback Joey Aguilar threw for 318 passing yards and three touchdowns, against one interception. Appalachian State coach Shawn Clark praised his team for prevailing against a ranked opponent. “It’s a big win for our program against a ranked football team in James Madison,” Clark said. “I was very proud of everyone involved. This was not an upset. This was the next game on our schedule. I think it shows you things still go through Boone, North Carolina, and we’re not backing down from them. “You have to give credit to James Madison, they have one of the best defenses in the country,” Clark added. “They are first in yards rushing per game and we knew that. So we wanted to protect the quarterback and let Joey go through his progressions. Joey played a great game and our backs ran well enough to move the sticks, but Joey and our receivers had an excellent game” The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Rural hospitals struggle to maintain operations after COVID funds cease

Rural hospitals struggle to maintain operations after COVID funds cease

The National Rural Health Association says costs for hospitals have gone up and funding for rural hospitals has gone down, because COVID-19 funds are no longer a factor. The emergency funds helped many hospitals that were at risk of closing before the pandemic to keep their doors open through 2020. RURAL NORTH CAROLINA HOSPITAL 11TH FORCED TO SHUT DOWN, CHANGE SERVICES THIS YEAR Robert Pascasio is the CEO of OmniPoint Health Hospital in Anahuac, Texas. He says rural hospitals are struggling to maintain their operations after dealing with higher costs and labor shortages. “COVID increased costs for all of us across the board. Labor costs are up, substantially. Supply costs are up, substantially,” Pascasio said. “We’re still experiencing shortages. A lot of folks got out of healthcare as a result of COVID.” Now, COVID funds that kept many rural hospitals open during the pandemic have ended, resulting in the closure of 18 rural hospitals in addition to 18 that no longer offer in-patient care since the funding stopped over a year ago. BIPARTISAN LAWMAKERS EYE SOLUTIONS FOR RURAL MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS Carrie Cochran-McClain of The National Rural Hospital Association says many hospitals across the country are now at risk of closing. “We have up to a third of rural hospitals that are vulnerable to closure,” McClain said. “Rural hospitals are finding themselves in worse conditions than when they went into the pandemic and when they received those funds.” Pascasio says he has worked hard with the local government entities to ensure OmniPoint’s doors stay open. “It’s hard: finding staff, moving forward with getting the facilities staffed completely and with the right kind of folks, and the costs that go with that. It was nice while we had it — the funding we received. But, the costs haven’t gone away, while the funding has,” Pascasio said. WITH PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY OVER, FUNDING FOR FEDERAL PROGRAM TO RECRUIT DOCTORS MAY BE AT RISK He says supplemental funding has helped them keep their doors open. “There’s hardly a day that goes by that I don’t read about some hospital somewhere closing, because they just don’t have the funding,” Pascasio said. “If not for the supplemental funds, we may be one of the ones that folks were reading about going away.” He also notes that rural hospitals are typically the largest employers in their areas. So, the majority of jobs in these rural areas are eliminated when the hospitals close.

Former LSU basketball player weighs in about possible rift between star Angel Reese and coach Kim Mulkey

The LSU women’s basketball team has gotten off to a solid start, and star player Angel Reese averaged 17 points and 10.3 rebounds in the first four games. But the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 Women’s NCAA Tournament was away from the team during a game Friday.  “Angel was not in uniform. Angel is a part of this basketball team, and we hope to see her sooner than later,” LSU coach Kim Mulkey said after the game. Reese’s absence came just days after she was benched in the second half of a game Tuesday night against Kent State. Mulkey described Reese’s benching as a “coach’s decision.” But one of Reese’s former teammates appears to be sounding off about a possible rift between the Tigers’ star forward and head coach. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Alexis Morris spent two seasons with LSU and was a member of last season’s national championship team. She took to X, formerly Twitter, to share her thoughts about the situation.  OLIVIA DUNNE: SECURITY GUARD TRAVELS WITH LSU GYMNASTICS TEAM AFTER INCIDENT LAST SEASON “I never ever ever wanted to be at odds, or cared about likes, media, nil none of those things,” Morris wrote Saturday. “I just wanted to hoop. Media coverage is a plus in my eyes.” Earlier this week, Morris noted she would not disparage her former coach. “You can’t pay me to bash Kim,” Morris wrote in a social media post Thursday. Another former LSU basketball player said she would be refrain from making any public comments about the situation for now.  “[Y]’all better hope I don’t say nothing…because it would be breaking news,” former LSU Tigers star Jasmin Carson wrote on X. Reese’s mother and teammate Flau’jae Johnson’s mother appeared to be at odds on social media.  “Folks pls do not send me long text msgs with a bunch of grammatical errors it gives me a headache,” Angel Reese Webb wrote. “How do I know you said what you said if I can’t understand what you’re saying?” FROM OUTKICK: ANGEL REESE SAYS SHE HAS ‘WEIGHT OF THE WORLD’ ON SHOULDERS IN SOCIAL MEDIA POST AMID LSU SUSPENSION According to Just Women’s Sports, Johnson’s mother, Kia Brooks, responded to Webb, saying: “You definitely know about grammar errors when your daughter got a 2.0 or less GPA. … Stop being petty, fake and hateful, and take responsibility for you and your daughter’s actions.” Reese is in her second season with LSU after transferring from Maryland. Reese had a whirlwind offseason. She signed multiple name, image and likeness deals after April’s NCAA women’s tournament. She was also featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and made a cameo in a popular music video.
