One of the most pivotal battleground states in the 2024 election has now seen more than 1.4 million residents cast their ballots early.Georgia has been shattering turnout records since early voting began on Tuesday.As of Monday morning, the Georgia state elections website showed 1,347,843 ballots were cast in person so far, while just over 80,000 absentee ballots have been returned and accepted.GEORGIA GOP CHAIR SHARES 2-PRONGED ELECTION STRATEGY AS TRUMP WORKS TO WIN BACK PEACH STATE”Today there is Sunday voting in several counties. The previous Sunday record was 24k back in 2022. Keep up the great work counties and voters.”The Sunday total wound up being just over 42,400 votes cast – nearly double the 2022 tally.On the first day of early voting alone, Georgians cast more than 313,000 in-person ballots. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan relayed what the organization feels star receiver Brandon Aiyuk might have after being carted off the field against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Shanahan says the 49ers fear Aiyuk has a torn ACL, which would sideline him for the remainder of the season. “That’s what it looks like, but we don’t know for sure,” Shanahan said, per 49erswebzone.com. “Just doing the test and everything with our hands, and with the trainers and stuff, all that. That’s what we fear. That’s what it looks like, but we’ve been wrong before, so we’re praying that we are.”CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMAiyuk will undergo further testing to confirm the 49ers’ fear. Aiyuk caught a pass from quarterback Brock Purdy with 37 seconds left in the half, and he took it for 15 yards with Justin Reid and Chamarri Conner tackling him simultaneously. CHIEFS REMAIN NFL’S ONLY UNDEFEATED TEAM AFTER TAKING DOWN 49ERS IN SUPER BOWL REMATCHHowever, as Reid was trying to bring him down, Conner came sprinting in and threw his body at Aiyuk’s leg. Video replay of the tackle showed Aiyuk’s right knee buckle, and he was in immediate pain down on the field. Aiyuk needed to be carted off the field after trainers assessed what he was going through. The injury came after the 49ers were already without Deebo Samuel, who tried to play through an illness but ultimately had to bow out early in the 28-18 loss to Kansas City. It also comes after an absolute rollercoaster for the talented receiver this offseason, when he was seeking a new long-term extension instead of just playing on his fifth-year option. The 49ers and Aiyuk went back and forth, as the latter requested a trade and the former eventually told him just before the season he would be forced to practice. Both sides ultimately agreed on a four-year, $120 million deal that locked Aiyuk back in with the Niners long-term. Through six games, Aiyuk has totaled 351 yards through the air on 23 catches (41 targets), but he did not find the end zone once this season. If this is an ACL tear, Aiyuk will end the year with those numbers as the 49ers set him up on a recovery path with 2025 in mind. The 49ers’ offense is a group filled with talent, but Aiyuk is the latest serious injury to Shanahan’s group. Political commentator Angela Rye declared on CNN that “White folks” should face accountability “for not showing up to save democracy” if they don’t vote for Vice President Kamala Harris next month.During an interview on “First of All” Saturday, CNN host Victor Blackwell addressed the backlash against former President Barack Obama after he scolded Black men for not being more supportive of Harris’ presidential campaign, in light of polling that shows Black men trending toward former President Trump compared to previous years.”This is the first time since he was in Pittsburgh and invoked the potential of sexism in his appeal to Black men to support the vice president,” Blackwell began, referencing Obama’s appearance in Arizona a day earlier. “Should there be a course correction because there was so much backlash to that framework? It’s also down from 2016, when Hillary Clinton won approximately 92% of the Black vote. Anti-death penalty advocates held a rally over the weekend in Texas calling for capital punishment to be abolished, as several high-profile death row cases in Texas and other states have sparked debate over whether the death penalty should remain.Former death row inmates spoke at the 25th Annual March to Abolish the Death Penalty on Saturday, according to Fox 26. The march held each fall features state abolitionists, former death row inmates and allies opposing capital punishment who all gather together to demand an end to the state-sanctioned death of inmates on death row.Many of the advocates said they are fighting for innocent people like Robert Roberson, who is currently on death row over his conviction in which prosecutors say he killed his two-year-old daughter, Nikki Curtis, by shaking her to death, known as shaken baby syndrome. But his lawyers say Nikki actually died from other health issues such as pneumonia and that new evidence proves his innocence. His lawyers also said doctors had failed to rule out these other medical explanations for the child’s symptoms.Roberson was scheduled to be put to death on Thursday before the state Supreme Court issued a stay to delay his execution shortly before it was set to take place. He would have been the first person in the U.S. to be executed based on shaken baby syndrome.TEXAS JUDGE GRANTS INJUNCTION AHEAD OF MAN’S EXECUTION IN ‘SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME’ CASEThe delay was issued Thursday night after a bipartisan group of state lawmakers subpoenaed Roberson to testify Monday about his case. The ruling came after the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals earlier Thursday night denied a motion for a stay of execution, reversing a judge’s temporary injunction that was handed down earlier that day.More than 80 Texas state lawmakers, as well as the detective who helped the prosecution, medical experts, parental rights groups, human rights groups, bestselling novelist John Grisham and other advocates have called for the state to grant Roberson clemency over the belief that he is innocent. A group of state lawmakers also visited Roberson in prison to encourage him.At the rally in Texas, former death row inmate Pamala Tise said she was locked up for a total of 40 years.TEXAS DEATH ROW INMATE’S LAWYER SAYS ‘THERE WAS NO CRIME’ AS SHE MAKES LAST-DITCH EFFORT TO SAVE HIS LIFETise was sentenced to death at the age of 24 following her conviction on two counts of capital murder, Fox 26 reported. Her initial conviction was overturned in 1983, but she was again sentenced to death after a retrial. The following year, she was placed back on death row and remained there until 2000.”I was not innocent of my crime. When I did my crime, I was on a lot of drugs and when I came off the drugs a week later and realized what we had done, I turned myself into the police,” Tise said, according to Fox 26.But in 2000, her conviction was overturned because of a conflict of interests. She was taken off death row following a plea bargain that reduced her capital murder charges to two counts of aggravated robbery.”So I went in at 24 and came out at 64,” said Tise, who now campaigns against the death penalty.”Having someone be executed, to me, would be the easy way out. Spending the rest of your life in prison is a living hell,” Tise added.Texas Death Penalty Abolition Movement organizer Gloria Rubac said “Harris County has more people on death row than any state.”The activists said they hope a court will hear the new evidence in Roberson’s case when he testifies on Monday.
