Cher confesses Sony Bono marriage drove them to thoughts of murder and suicide in darkest moments

Cher confesses Sony Bono marriage drove them to thoughts of murder and suicide in darkest moments

This story discusses suicide. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255).On her rise to fame, music icon Cher reached rock bottom during her “loveless marriage” to Sonny Bono. The “Believe” singer confessed her ex-husband Bono had thoughts of murdering her during their tumultuous relationship in her new book, “Cher: The Memoir, Part One,” released today. After struggling in the marriage, Cher admitted to Bono that she was interested in sleeping with their guitarist, Bill. She wrote that her music duo partner and then-husband did not take the news well. CHER WINS YEARS-LONG LEGAL BATTLE OVER ROYALTIES WITH SONNY BONO’S WIDOW”You know, after you went off with Bill that night at the Sahara [hotel], I seriously thought about throwing you off our balcony,” she recalled him saying.Cher added she thought her ex-husband’s confession was “crazy.” She wrote that he added, “I figured I’d plead insanity like Spade Cooley and get seven years in jail before they released me. Then I’d get a book deal and my own show.”She replied, “Oh, you did, did you? Well, there would have been no need to push me because I was gonna jump!”CHER ADMITS SHE ‘LOVED’ AND STILL LOVES EX VAL KILMER: ‘HE’S LIKE NOBODY I’VE EVER KNOWN’While she claimed that was the “darkest moment” of their marriage, Cher wrote that she did not think Bono would actually push her off the balcony, but she was “sure it crossed his mind.” At that moment, they could not help but laugh, Cher penned in her memoir. Meanwhile, Cher reflected on how their rocky relationship made the pop singer consider suicide multiple times. “There I was, twenty-six years old and in what had become a loveless marriage… he just lost interest.””I stepped barefoot onto the balcony of our suite and stared down. I was dizzy with loneliness. I saw how easy it would be to step over the edge and simply disappear. For a few crazy minutes I couldn’t imagine any other option,” she wrote. Cher said her suicidal ideations occurred “five or six times.”What drew Cher off the ledge was the vulnerable thought of how it would deeply impact her family if she were to jump to her death. “… each time I think… about my mother, about my sister, about everybody and how things like this could make people who look up to me feel that it’s a viable solution, and I would step back inside.”The “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer then came to another solution to her relationship with Bono.”I don’t have to jump off, I can just leave him.”CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERCher wrote that she reached out to her friend Lucille Ball, who also dealt with marital struggles with her husband and co-star Desi Arnaz. “I told her, ‘Lucy, I want to leave Sonny and you’re the only one I know that’s ever been in this same situation. What should I do?’” Cher remembered. “She told me, ‘F— him, you’re the one with the talent.’”Bono, whose real name was Salvatore Bono, and Cher married in 1967 and skyrocketed to success as a musical duo. The two welcomed their only child, Chaz Bono, in 1969.In Cher’s memoir, she detailed how Bono controlled every aspect of her life and took all her money at the height of their fame on “The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.”After nine years of marriage, the couple divorced in 1975. In 1998, Bono died in a skiing accident.

NY judge adjourns Trump hearing without explanation, delaying sentencing

NY judge adjourns Trump hearing without explanation, delaying sentencing

Donald Trump’s sentencing for 34 criminal charges in the state of New York was abruptly adjourned by the court Tuesday without explanation, giving the presiding judge additional time to weigh how to proceed. The delayed sentencing came on the same day that District Attorney Alvin Bragg was slated to file a recommendation to Judge Juan Merchan on how to proceed.Trump was convicted in May by a Manhattan jury on 34 counts of falsifying business records, stemming from a case about payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels, which could have landed him a maximum sentence of up to four years in prison. But the presidential race — and Trump’s victory — had thrown the timeline for court proceedings into a fog of uncertainty. The presiding judge in the New York case, Judge Juan Merchan, granted a request from prosecutors earlier this month to stay all deadlines associated with the New York case, including a planned sentencing date of Nov. 26, in wake of Trump’s election victory.REPUBLICANS FILE 12 PENNSYLVANIA LAWSUITS IN ‘AGGRESSIVE’ PUSH TO END RECOUNT”The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo said in their request, which he added  would allow for prosecutors to better evaluate the impact of his election as president.Trump’s attorneys, who have pushed to vacate the charges against him completely, also backed the stay. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in July that presidents should enjoy presumptive immunity from criminal prosecution for most actions taken as president, further complicating the path forward in the New York case.EVERY DECISION JUDGE MERCHAN HAS MADE HAS ‘FAVORED THE PROSECUTION,’ SAYS THINK TANK PRESIDENTThe high court ruled that presidents are entitled to absolute immunity from any actions taken within the scope of “core constitutional powers” as commander-in-chief. A presumption of immunity also applies to other actions taken while holding office, they said.It is not clear whether a president is to be afforded the same level of constitutional protection for state convictions, however as the matter has never been tested in court.Bragg’s office has insisted its case is focused solely on Trump’s personal behavior, not his actions as president. Trump, for his part, has repeatedly characterized the case as a politically motivated “witch hunt,” a refrain frequently used by the president-elect in an attempt to discredit his critics, political opponents, and prosecutors at the state and federal level. Even if Trump’s convictions were to be upheld, the president-elect has myriad ways to appeal the case or get the charges against him dismissed before the Nov. 26 sentencing hearing — making it all but certain he will face no time behind bars. This is a breaking story. Update to follow.

Ukraine fires first barrage of US-made long-range missiles into Russia, Kremlin says

Ukraine fires first barrage of US-made long-range missiles into Russia, Kremlin says

Moscow says Ukrainian forces have taken advantage of President Biden’s green light and launched 6 U.S.-made ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems) into Russian territory Tuesday.Russia says it shot down five of the missiles and damaged the sixth. It added that debris landed in the area of a Russian military facility, but that no casualties or damage beyond a small fire. A U.S. official confirmed the overnight strike to Fox News.Ukraine did not immediately confirm the use of ATACMS on Tuesday, but officials did announce an attack on a military facility in Russia’s Bryansk region, the same region where Moscow says the missiles fell. The attack came just two days after President Biden approved Ukraine to use American long-range missiles on Russian soil, an escalation that Russian President Putin previously indicated would be an act of war.TRUMP’S FIRST CABINET PICKS DECIDEDLY NOT ISOLATIONISTS: UKRAINE, ISRAEL BREATHE A SIGH OF RELIEFAccording to a senior U.S. official, Biden’s decision was spurred by the Russian decision to invite 10,000 North Korean soldiers into the fight against Ukraine in Kursk. A second official told Fox that it is unclear if Biden plans to approve the use of the missiles outside the Kursk region. The announcement came after Great Britain and France authorized Ukraine to launch SCALP/Storm Shadow missile strikes, according to French outlet Le Figaro.Putin has previously said that giving Ukraine the green light on missile use would effectively mean that the U.S. and NATO are “in the war.””Flight assignments for these missile systems can, in fact, only be entered by military personnel from NATO countries. Ukrainian servicemen cannot do this. And therefore, it is not a question of allowing the Ukrainian regime to strike Russia with these weapons or not. It is a question of making a decision whether NATO countries directly participate in the military conflict or not,” Putin said in September.DOCUMENTS REVEAL RUSSIA’S INITIAL ‘PEACE DEAL’ EQUATED TO THE SURRENDER OF UKRAINE: REPORT”If this decision is made, it will mean nothing less than the direct participation of NATO countries, the United States, and European countries, in the war in Ukraine,” he added.Meanwhile, President-elect Trump’s transition team is expected to soon announce a peace envoy to assist in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Trump argued on the campaign trail that he could solve the conflict before entering office.Fox News’ Liz Friden contributed to this report.
