Oregon holds off Ohio State’s final-second comeback in epic battle of top-three Big Ten programs

Oregon holds off Ohio State's final-second comeback in epic battle of top-three Big Ten programs

Oregon Ducks, welcome to the Big Ten.The third-ranked Ducks stopped a late drive from No. 2 Ohio State and came away with an epic 32-31 victory in Eugene on Saturday night. This game was a movie from the start – in the first half alone, we saw a successful onside kick, an ejection, and a blocked PAT almost taken to the house. But somehow, the ending was even better.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMEarly in the fourth quarter, Dillon Gabriel found the end zone from 27 yards out on the ground, and the PAT put the Ducks up, 29-28. The Buckeyes answered, though, with a 40-yard field goal to go up two. Oregon got the ball back with six minutes left and marched down the field, however, and on their 11th play of the drive, they opted for the chip shot field goal to take a 32-31 lead with 1:47 left. Will Howard was sacked for nine yards on the Buckeyes’ first play of the ensuing drive, but he quickly completed passes of 13, eight, nine, and 26 yards to get inside of field goal range. However, an offensive pass interference bumped them back out of it – it also didn’t appear that Ohio State knew the clock would be running when the ball was placed following their penalty. With six seconds left, Howard ran for several yards to give his team a field goal shot, but he didn’t slide early enough to call a timeout, ending the game.Had Howard broken out even a tick earlier (it did not appear to be a designed run), there may have been enough time to call a timeout. Ducks fans stormed the field almost immediately, and it took quite a while for Gabriel and head coach Dan Lanning to get off the field.UNC PLAYER TYLEE CRAFT DIES AT 23 OF LUNG CANCER; TEAMMATE SCORES TOUCHDOWN WEARING HIS JERSEYThe game was back and forth from the jump, with nobody leading by more than one possesion. Ohio State scored on the first drive, but Oregon later matched it – however, this was where that blocked PAT happened, keeping it a 7-6 Buckeyes lead.Oregon missed a field goal on their next drive, and the Buckeyes scored just four plays later to lead by eight. Oregon scored on their next drive, but trailing by two, they opted for the two-point conversion. It was unsuccessful, but thanks to a personal foul penalty, they kicked off at midfield. Thus, they went for the onside kick and got it. They took advantage by kicking a field goal – but they lost Traeshon Holden on the drive after he spat on an opponent and was booted from the game. Both teams then each scored another seven points before the half, thus, the Ducks led 22-21 in the locker room.NO. 4 PENN STATE FIGHTS BACK FROM TWO-TOUCHDOWN DEFICIT FOR WALK-OFF WIN AGAINST UNRANKED USC IN OVERTIMEOregon punted on their first drive of the second half, and the Buckeyes answered with a touchdown from freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith to go up six. The Ducks got inside the five-yard line on the next drive, but they failed to score, turning the ball over on downs. Thankfully for them, though, it didn’t matter, as they forced a punt and got the ball back at the start of the fourth quarter.Gabriel finished with 341 passing yards, while Jordan James ran for 115 yards on 23 carries, one of which was a touchdown. Evan Stewart led all receivers with 149 yards on his seven catches – he and Tez Johnson scored Oregon’s receiving touchdowns.Howard’s 326 yards through the air weren’t enough – Smith and Emeka Egbuka combined for 19 receptions, 193 yards and two touchdowns. It was Oregon’s first win against a top-two team in program history – they had previously been 0-19-1. Oregon remains 6-0, while Ohio State is now 5-1.Oregon heads to Purdue next Friday, while the Buckeyes will host Nebraska.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Texas stymies Oklahoma’s offense to earn Red River Rivalry win in foes’ first matchup as SEC members

Texas stymies Oklahoma's offense to earn Red River Rivalry win in foes' first matchup as SEC members

Texas showed why it is the top-ranked team in the nation, dominating the Oklahoma Sooners in Dallas in the Red River Rivalry.Quinn Ewers threw for 199 yards and a go-ahead touchdown and ran for a score as he resumed his role as Texas’ starting quarterback. Ewers’ performance was just one of many reasons Texas cruised to a 34-3 win over No. 18 Oklahoma Saturday. The 120th Red River Rivalry was also the first time the schools met in the annual clash as members of the Southeastern Conference.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMAfter missing some time due to an abdominal strain, Ewers seemed to have a little rust to knock off in the early portion of the game.”Definitely good to be back,” Ewers said. “It was a rough start, but, overall, I think we did a good job of overcoming some adversity early.”NO. 4 PENN STATE FIGHTS BACK FROM TWO-TOUCHDOWN DEFICIT FOR WALK-OFF WIN AGAINST UNRANKED USC IN OVERTIMETexas running back Quintrevion Wisner ran for 118 yards and a touchdown for the Longhorns, and his fumble at the end of a long run was recovered in the end zone by teammate Silas Bolden for a touchdown. The annual game’s name is a nod to the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma. The series dates back to 1900 and has been played annually during the State Fair of Texas since 1929.Oklahoma won five of the last six Rivalry games, when both programs were in the Big 12, but the Longhorns hold a 64-51-5 series advantage.Oklahoma’s issues on offense continued Saturday. The Sooners managed three points and 89 rushing yards on the day. Michael Hawkins Jr., the Sooners’ true freshman quarterback, finished with 148 passing yards and no touchdowns.Oklahoma put up just 237 total yards of offense.Texas went ahead to stay when Ewers rolled to his right, then threw back left to Gunnar Helm for a 7-yard TD early in the second quarter for a 7-3 lead. That was after the Longhorns trailed in a game for the first time this season.”We played well in all three phases. We don’t ever want to be one-dimensional,” fourth-year Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian said. “When the offense was struggling early, we had the defense. … We felt like we built a team to do that.”Sarkisian, who previously served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator under Nick Saban, lauded the Red River Rivalry.”I’ve been part of some great games, some great rivalries,” Sarkisian said. “This one is just so unique.” Texas will turn its attention to the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. The highly anticipated game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET Oct. 19 in Austin, Texas. The Associated Press contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Oregon receiver ejected for spitting on Ohio State player: ‘Why even do that?’

Oregon receiver ejected for spitting on Ohio State player: 'Why even do that?'

In the biggest game of the season, the No. 3 Oregon Ducks will be without one of their better players for most of the contest.Traeshon Holden was ejected in the second quarter after spitting on an Ohio State player. After a play, Holden and Buckeyes cornerback Davison Igbinosun appeared to exchange words.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMBut things got out of hand when Holden spit on Igbinosun. An unsportsmanlike flag was thrown, and Holden was promptly ejected from the game.Oregon fans booed the decision.”It’s the biggest game of the year. Why even do that?” said a befuddled Todd Blackledge, who was calling the game. “You’re such a valuable part of this team, and now you hurt yourself and your team. There’s no excuse for that at all.”Blackledge acknowledged he understood smack talk, but Holden’s act was indefensible.UNC PLAYER TYLEE CRAFT DIES AT 23 OF LUNG CANCER; TEAMMATE SCORES TOUCHDOWN WEARING HIS JERSEYIn his second season with the Ducks, Holden has kicked it up a notch. He’s on pace for career-highs in just about every stat. In his first five games, he had 19 catches for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Holden began his college career at Alabama, playing three seasons there. The COVID season gave him an extra year of eligibility, though, and he transferred to Oregon ahead of the 2023 season.Last year, with Bo Nix, he had 37 receptions for 452 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs. The Ducks took a 15-14 lead shortly after the penalty, but the offense surely took a hit.Saturday’s winner may not rise to No. 1 after Texas’ dominant win over No. 18 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, but this could be a national championship preview.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

ADHD now affects 15.5 million US adults, says new CDC report

ADHD now affects 15.5 million US adults, says new CDC report

Diagnoses of ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) are on the rise among adults in the U.S.Approximately 15.5 million adults had an ADHD diagnosis in 2023, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).That’s equivalent to around 6% of adults in the country, or one in 16.Around half of these diagnoses didn’t come until adulthood.ADHD AFFECTS 1 IN 9 KIDS IN US, NEW REPORT REVEALS: ‘SHAME AND STIGMA’The agency gathered this data from the National Center for Health Statistics Rapid Surveys System between October and November 2023.The study also found that adults with ADHD were more likely to be 50 or younger (84.5% versus 51.2%) and more likely to be non-Hispanic White (70.4% versus 61.4%).Those earning less than the federal poverty level were also more likely to be diagnosed (22.1% versus 12.3%), per the CDC.ADHD IN MALES VERSUS FEMALES: WHAT YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT THE DIFFERENCES IN SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTSAround one-third of the adults with ADHD reported taking some type of stimulant medication, but more than 71% said the prescription was difficult to obtain. Around half of diagnosed adults said they had ever used telehealth to receive treatment for ADHD.The study did have some limitations, the CDC acknowledged.”First, self-reports of ADHD diagnosis might be subject to recall and reporting biases and were not validated against medical records,” the agency stated in the report. “Second, surveys with commercial online panels have low response rates and might underrepresent certain subpopulations, increasing the potential for nonresponse bias.”COVID LOCKDOWNS INCREASED ADHD RISK AMONG 10-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN, NEW STUDY FINDSA third limitation is that the sociodemographic and geographic data were collected before the survey was administered, which “could have affected the demographic distribution for some variables, such as age, education, household income and metropolitan status,” the report stated.Jonathan Alpert, a psychotherapist in Manhattan and Washington, D.C., said he has a new patient coming in each week with concerns about ADHD.”There certainly are those accurately diagnosed with ADHD and in need of medication — however, much like the GLP-1 phenomenon, there’s a shortage of medication because of all the people using it off-label or not truly in need of it,” he told Fox News Digital. There are also many patients who don’t actually have the disorder, but have been self-diagnosed through online research, according to Alpert.”This fits into a broader phenomenon in our nation where we have become too therapized, too diagnosed, and frankly, too dependent upon people like me,” he said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERWhen it comes to the treatment of ADHD and other mental health disorders, Alpert says, “the first line of treatment should be psychological and behavioral intervention — not necessarily medications, as they are not without side effects.”The psychotherapist also flagged electronic devices and social media as potentially contributing to the spike in diagnoses.”The very nature of these is to provide stimulation through a device where the brain is continuously engaged — and, for many people, overly engaged,” Alpert cautioned. For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health”This leads to distractibility, disorganization and the inability to complete tasks, among other hallmark features of the diagnosis.””By making significant behavioral and lifestyle changes, one can start to minimize their symptoms and make improvements, thereby lessening their reliance on medication.”
