His season ended early last year after he had inflammation in a shoulder capsule. This season didn’t start off so hot. He compiled a 5.66 ERA in his first 10 starts. San Diego then placed him on the 60-day IL with a bone spur in his right elbow.When he returned, Musgrove returned to form, pitching to a 2.15 ERA in his final nine starts of the season, including an outing in which he allowed six earned runs in 4⅓ innings early last month. It added up to a 3.88 ERA, but he clearly was trending in the right direction.METS NAME SURPRISING PITCHER AS GAME 1 STARTER AFTER HE WAS THOUGHT TO MISS REST OF SEASONHowever, on Wednesday night, he was taken out of the game, walking off the field with a trainer and clearly emotional.”I’m devastated I’m not going to finish what we started,” Musgrove said on Friday of his “sudden and drastic” injury. “It’s a matter of coming to grips that this is it for me.”Musgrove said when he got his elbow checked out over the summer, doctors told him it was a “matter of time” until the worst happened.”The writing was on the wall for me. It was a matter of when,” he said.Despite Musgrove leaving the game early, San Diego took down the Atlanta Braves to move on to the National League Division Series.It’s their third trip to an NLDS since 2020, all of which will have come against the NL West rival Los Angeles Dodgers.Musgrove figured to be an option to pitch Game 3 of the NLDS on an extra day of rest.That series begins Saturday night in Los Angeles with an 8:38 p.m. ET first pitch.

Clark and the Indiana Fever lost both games, however, sending Clark home for the offseason.That Game 2 viewership was more than double what the Liberty and Aces drew earlier this week.Hill, though, despite her take on “irresponsible headlines,” admitted viewership would be higher with Clark.”Would the ratings be higher if she were in it? In early September, Clark’s Indiana Fever played in front of a TV audience of 1.26 million viewers in a game against the Minnesota Lynx that was played at the same time as a Week 1 Friday night NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers. Clark was named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year Thursday, receiving 66 of the 67 first-place votes. The president spoke briefly about the suspended port workers strike and Friday’s positive jobs numbers, and he announced that he may request additional money from Congress to fund Hurricane Helene relief efforts. But there was no follow-up from the press on hurricane relief.After thanking the president for his presence, the first reporter asked about Republicans casting doubt on his economic numbers, saying, “Florida Sen. Marco Rubio described today’s jobs report as having fake numbers. What do you make of that? And how worried are you that many Americans are hearing that the jobs numbers aren’t real?”TRUMP TARGETS BIDEN, HARRIS OVER FEDERAL RESPONSE TO HURRICANE: ‘INCOMPETENTLY MANAGED’The crisis in the Middle East was the biggest topic, with questions about Biden’s comments about strikes on Iranian oil facilities, Israeli plans to retaliate, possible U.S. sanctions, and worries about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu trying to influence the U.S. election.Election security and the peaceful transfer of power were also top of mind for reporters.”The election is a month away. More than 4,800 personnel from FEMA and other agencies have been deployed to North Carolina and neighboring states impacted by Helene. Additionally, FEMA has shipped over 8.5 million meals, more than 7 million liters of water, 150 generators and over 220,000 tarps to aid response efforts, according to the White House.As of Friday, the federal government has provided more than $45 million in Individual assistance to survivors affected by the storm, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, including in the form of one-time $750 payments from FEMA to qualified applicants in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. While Biden ended his own press conference dry spell, Harris has not held a formal news conference since emerging as the Democratic nominee when Biden dropped out in July.
